Rate this book
At 12 years old Jeff Crandall's family was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. On that day he lost his mother and father, his brother and the family dog, Buck. He wasn't with them on that trip and the accompanying guilt he felt was all encompassing. His aunt took him in and cared for him and raised him. His only therapy after the accident was the game of basketball and his high school sweetheart, Kathy Engle. He couldn't explain it, but when he played basketball he felt in control of his life. With Kathy and her family he felt loved. As their relationship deepened he found peace. Jeff would have to battle through more adversity on and off the basketball court after an injury in his junior year threatened to take away the one thing that mattered most to him, basketball. With Kathy's love and support and the support of her family and his friends he battled back to rejoin his team the following season. He was one of the best players in the region and highly recruited by college scouts. To Kathy and her family he was just, Jeff. To fans of the basketball team and the many college scouts who wanted to sign him to play for their school he was simply . . . The Player.
