Willow has wanted to be a spy since she was little, but she never really expected that the CIA would invite her to Washington DC to take their admissions test. Her nerves at being away from her small town for the first time are quickly tempered by how nice her fellow applicants are, especially the almost-too-perfect Elizabeth. Willow soon realizes, though, that the admittance tests are very different from the SATs and that she’s not the only one with something to hide. As the tests intensify and the other candidates become less trustworthy, Willow and Elizabeth rely on each other more and more. But everyone, even Willow, even Elizabeth, is hiding something…From an auditorium to a ballroom to the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Willow must draw on all the skills she’s developed (and some she hasn’t). Willow expected to be challenged. She never expected to have her first kiss, to come to terms with the reality of her lifelong medical condition, or to be forced to question who she even is and who she wants to be.

This is a very inspiring Young Adult book. The main character has a major obstacle to overcome in her life that could prevent her from following her dreams. She goes for the big dream anyway. There are lots of adventure, challenges, and friendships along the way.

Full disclosure, I am in the same social circle as Emily Winters and that is why I bought Unbreakable. I was being supportive. However, as soon as I started reading, I realized what a good idea it was to buy it because this book is so good!

Willow loves all things spy related and she decides, without real hope, to apply to a new CIA program for new high school graduates. She's amazed but thrilled to be accepted for further testing, which take place over the summer after graduation. She makes friends and enemies, proceeds through the many varied tests, and tries hard to keep a secret. She's also not the only one with secrets, of course.

I really loved Willow as a character. She's smart, resourceful, friendly. Everything I like in a heroine. It is also a great friendship story. Elizabeth is a friend and ally anyone would be lucky to have. She is also, smart, resourceful, and friendly, but also charismatic. I enjoyed seeing how they looked out for one another.

It reminded me a little bit of The Testing, but with lower stakes, as the consequence for failing a test isn't death. But generally, if you like the sort of book where a person is selected for something extraordinary and then proceeds to rock every challenge thrown at them, you'll like this one. I read it in just a couple of sittings.

Check it out!
