Sometimes being an immortal in love can be such a drag. After losing his soul mate two millennia ago, Léoan has searched for and found her twelve times, only to watch her die far too soon. When he finds Samia, a quiet yet fierce librarian who reminds him of his long lost love, Léoan thinks the thirteenth time will be the charm. But Samia’s love life is in shambles, and Léoan’s mere presence brings back old memories, déjà vu, and fears with a vengeance, leaving Samia to question her sanity. To regain her affection, Léoan begs, borrows, and steals bodies and fights against supernatural forces beyond his control to force Samia to face her fears and recognize him as her true love. Will fate leave Léoan alone once again? Or will Léoan and Samia finally find a love that lasts forever?

This was my first time reading this author and it definitely won’t be my last.

Leoan pronounced (lay own) has been in love with Samira since 900 b.c. cursed to fall in love and lose her every lifetime by a bitter siren. Leoan has now found Samira in modern times and must convince her that he’s the love her life.

This author takes Greek mythology, supernatural and modern day elements to create a hilarious story. Most of the comic relief revolves around Leon’s need to shape shift every couple of months due to his curse. There’s scenes in this book that will have you crying laughing. I loved that Samira was a modern day Black woman who has realistic reactions to all the strange things happening around her.

Definitely a five star read and I look forward to reading more by this author.

1.5🌟

Briefly, the story is about a man, Homer, who while on a voyage with Odysseus in 12 BC, succumbed to a Siren’s song. For him, it was lust, but the Siren felt she owned him. Homer subsequently met a stowaway Sera/Samia. He helped hide Sera and during the journey, they fell in love. They found a place to live, she became pregnant, and she and Homer were happy. The Siren was not. She lured the pregnant Sera to the shore and drowned her. She then cursed them both. The bottom line is that Homer is immortal. In order to become “human” while he searches for Sera, he must drink a person’s blood, killing him. By doing this, he takes on the body of that person. Sera is cursed to be reincarnated, then killed, over and over again, though she doesn’t remember her past lives. Homer has searched and found her at least 12 times throughout the centuries. Why he can’t remain in his own body is perplexing.

I have tried to summarize the salient points in this book, though there is a lot more indepth elements that I did not include—the summary was NOT easy to write. The book was well-written and character driven. There was a fantastical plot based loosely on the life of the poet Homer in Ancient Greece.

I gave the book 2 stars because I just hated the book, its premise, all of it. I guess one could say it was “dark.” To me, the book chiefly concentrated on Homer’s killings and “humaning” (taking the body of the person he killed by drinking all their blood). It was not a romance but a horror story in my opinion.

Frankly, I think I was blindsided. The synopsis given about the book is wholly incongruent with the actual storyline. Had the synopsis encompassed any of the descriptive elements as I’ve indicated, I would have passed on this book.

On this basis, therefore, I give the book a 1.5.

this was...different. Some funny moments are in this unconventional romance. It's quirky, to say the least, but my interest was definitely piqued, I just had to read this in conjunction with one of my other more conventional IR romances. There's some hot love scenes, passion, and a story of love that lasts several reincarnations. I ended up liking it..not loving it, but liking it. If you are in the mood for something a little different and unconventional, check this one out.

Absolutely Refreshing

Humaning is an amazingly fresh and well written take on vampires (sort of), mythical Greek creatures and gods and the power and angst of true love. Highly recommend this book.

The only thing I did not like about this book is that it was too short. But that tells you how much I loved the story.
