There are two types of those who are currently suffering a tragedy and those who will soon be suffering a tragedy. Is that fatalism? No, it's reality. In this book, Pastor Jim Scudder, Jr. offers help and hope for those of us who are perplexed by the frequent and systematic occurrence of pain, suffering, and evil. He answers the oft-repeated question, "Why does God allow bad things?" and helps us understand the beautiful picture God is painting with the diverse circumstances which color our lives.
I absolutely LOVED this book!! It gives us not only a new perspective on pain and why it exists, but also a deep understanding as to why it is even necessary to have pain in this life. Jim uses good life examples and beautiful Bible passages to back up his knowledge. Reading one or two chapters a day gives me a devotional approach and a chance to meditate and understand that in painful moments we are given an opportunity to rely on God and serve Him and each other. Especially knowing that pain and evil will soon be eradicated and we will be free in our everlasting life after this, is the biggest comfort. Definitely a "forever favorite!" :) :)
"Benjamin Franklin wrote in advance the epitaph that would be on his gravestone; "The body of Benjamin Franklin, printer, like the cover of an old book, it's contents torn out and stripped of its lettering and gilding lies here. ...Yet the work itself shall not be lost; for it will, as he believed, appear once more in a new and more beautiful edition, corrected and amended by the Author." Both physical and emotional pain seem to follow us through life. It is as if we were torn and stripped. But like old Ben, we must remember that it will be worth it all when we see Jesus."
