Sometimes, the thing you should fear the most is yourself.
December Thorne’s life had never been better. Oberon Academy was her home, its students and faculty, her family. With her best friend Shaela and her boyfriend Easton by her side, she felt like nothing could bring her down. Except for one thing—the loss of her mentor. Crispin Jonas took over that role, pushing December to practice things beyond the standard Oberon Academy lessons on being a good Sylphid. His lessons revolved around her other half—her dark side. Devastated after taking a life, December had a choice to make. She could let her darker half take over and guide her actions, or she could embrace the Sylphid inside her and live on the path of light. But were those her only two choices?
People aren’t always what they seem. Bright smiles hide wicked hearts and black wings don’t make a person evil.
Wendi Wilson is a mother to two rambunctious boys, a fat black cat, two ferrets, and a pup named Izzy. She spends her time watching her boys play baseball and football, volunteering at school, reading and writing.
She enjoys reading YA paranormal romance, NA romance, and dystopian novels. Her first book, Shadowed Strength, is the culmination of 20+ years of work, a dream finally realized.
This book was really entertaining, just like it's predecessor, but once my thrill and adrenaline set, I realized this book was not perfect.
It took me one and a half books in the series to realize that the main feature fairies have is lacking, and that is the fact that fairies can't lie. Yes, these faes lie and have secrets, which, in my opinion, make the story telling so much easier for the author, but it also makes it less enjoyable, since there are no twisted truths.
I also think that our characters found it too easy to get themselves out of trouble, which I didn't like. Everything went smoothly for them.
Twists were not that surprising.
I also wish December embraced the darkness that's inside her, without feeling guilty about it. But then again, it would change her main character attribute: that she is a good person.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel and I am so happy that I have discovered this series, and it makes me really happy to know that the third book in the series comes out this month.
It’s very rare but I think I actually loved the second book more than the first! With December developing her powers and the addition of her new mentor Crispin, this book is full of twists and turns and page-turning action. If you loved book one, you’ll devour this one! And don’t miss the huge revelation in the last few pages! Can’t wait to see what happens next.
I liked the overall story arc but while others might find December and Easton's relationship swoony, I actually ended up cringing a little at how super lovey-dovey they were getting. Each time they were together involved a declaration of "I love you" and it was beginning to be just a little too much for me.
Yeah idk but I’ve committed to this so I gotta see it through because I am actually interested in what will happen to these characters but the pacing and the writing is mediocre at best.
This continued to be a cute simple read. It continues to be enjoyable and something to enjoy between other books and during vacation. However, I am an adult. I believe that a young teenager would disagree. For me, the teenage angst, self pity and teenage angst is annoying and makes me want to throw my kindle. December runs away constantly to wallow in self pity. Then she realizes she is powerful and people are afraid, which I do not understand. In book one, Shaela stated that everyone was competitive and tried to prove they were the strongest and, as a result, most popular. So, when December proves that she is powerful, you would think everyone would be in awe. Do not get me wrong, there were great things in this book too. For instance, I love the strong friendship that the heroine has with her friends. I enjoyed the revelations in this book, particularly since it answered some questions and strengthened the plot. I am looking forward to the next book, even with my complaints because the story is still very interesting. I just hope December matures along the way.
An Enjoyable Enough Read. 3.5 Stars 🌟 (Read using Kindle Unlimited) The Zephyr (Oberon Academy #2)
December becomes more afraid of her mixed race powers. They seem uncontrollable to her & she desperately needs a new mentor!!🙏 Than a continues to bully & taunt her.😟😡 A new mentor & professor is hired, Cris. He pushes December hard but seems to get decent results. They start to gain a close friendship & bond as time passes. Her bff & Charles are going strong 😍 As are she & Easton 😍🔥💘
I just admit I suspected the outcome of this book pretty early on but still enjoyed it!👍💕 The Zephyr Queen is vile!😡👑 I hope December & Easton become strong enough to defeat completely!!💥
Oh man!!! Is it bad I’m already jonesing for book 3?? I know I need to give Wendi Wilson a break, but I LOVE this series. December is such a lovable heroine, who would hate being called a heroine btw. And Easton just keeps proving he’s the best book boyfriend EVER. I don’t want to spoil the book for you, but I must say while I had it in my mind that Cris may be her dad, it was still a shocking plot twist.
A MUST READ. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed, and if you are, well you’re just plain nuts!!

Sucked in and loving this series more and more! Easton makes for a genuine Prince Charming and Shaela couldn’t be a better (or sassier and tough) best friend. I love that Wilson gives readers healthy relationships with an immensely entertaining story that is perfect for younger teen readers too. I also loved the twists and moral challenges presented as well as that BIG confrontation and reveal! What a story and I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the next one!
Sweet Jesus, what a ride!! This book started at a fast pace since page one and kept me on the edge til the last... December's relationship with Easton holds strong, her powers keep growing and her new mentor? You have to read it to find out... Please, get book 3 ready soon
It's probably just me, but I want to see them kick butt I want to see them get aggressive in protecting the Academy and they did a little at the end but it does feel like it maybe for a younger audience so it is more appropriate I guess. And I personally don't like that December feels so much guilt all the time I would like her character better if she was stronger but she is still growing. But it still interested me and I will finish the series I do enjoy it
That. Was. Awesome! I can't get enough of this series! I love the characters, especially December and Shaela. I was especially thrilled by the events of this book! The storyline was entertaining, magical and full of energy! The world building is powerful and like I said before the characters are fantastic and are growing into their own so beautifully! I can't wait for the next installment!
Book 2 of Oberon Academy picks up where book 1 left off. In a blend of post apocalyptic, high fantasy and urban fantasy, this book is a unique blend of genres. It is well written and has excellent character development. I found the story engaging and loved that it is different from the norm. I highly recommend.
4.5 stars…. I don’t feel like it’s a solid 5 stars, but it was thoroughly enjoyable and better than the first book in the series. IMO.
I wasn’t really surprised by any of the “turns” that were probably meant to be surprises or jaw-droppers. Some of the banter and “one liners” were quite funny.
I highly recommend reading this book. The characters are beautifully crafted and you get so caught up in all of their drama and battles it is hard to put this book down. Brilliant sequel to Oberon.
This second book in the series builds on the previous book and is even more riveting than the first! I was so caught up in it that I was reading into the wee morning hours. Commitments already made caused me to finish it later than I normally would have and it left me frustrated because I really only wanted to be immersed in the story until it was finished!
Wendi does such a masterful job of making the story come alive. I felt it in the first book and it just left me stunned with this one. Talk about shocking revelations that are revealed herein! Wow!!
I would recommend this book to young and old alike who love stories written by a fantastic author!! Wendi is an author you will want to read again and again! I felt like I was there experiencing what the characters did. The pages turned faster and faster as I just had to find out what happened next!
I am not a patient man for I want to continue this story right now but I must bide my time until the next installment comes out which promises more surprises. I can hardly wait!!
I urge you to start with the Orphan before reading this book because you really need to see this story as it unfolds so as not to miss a single emotion or event in December’s life!! On a scale of 1 to 5 I rate this book a twenty! It is that good. I felt for December in facing the hostile student body, who were either fearful of her or hated her, to explain her actions to try and defuse a classmate who has a vendetta against her.
Be warned though that you will have a story that you will read and reread again and again! This is not a book to read through once and discard. Wendi’s magic will pull you back again and again so you can revisit your friends whose adventures make up this series! You will be grateful that you found this talented author I guarantee you!
It was unexpected but interesting to find the father of the main character. At first, i found this story to be sad because of the way the main character’s life was described as i’m sure every person would have this feelings towards an abandoned girl who was void of tenderness and care. Life is difficult but gives little prizes to hold on which is the message i received after reading this book, not only from the main character but also from the people that surround her. Sheyla for instance, being feared for what she might do with her powers, an outcast really, and due to this, a friendship forever which opens a connection as close as family represents. Finally, the teenager to be kíng someday, attached deeply by a profound love who sadly, was alone too as close to be an orphand as the main character. He found love in this neglected girl, void of love most of her life. But he saw something eles an honest, pure of heart girl. I recommend to keep reading. I wanted to se some ass kicked maybe in the next book? I really hope so. Just like many women, i like happy endings.
I am enjoying this series very much. I read a lot, being disabled. I start series after series, many don't last through book 2. I really hate waiting, but I am so thankful that a fun series is on kindle unlimited. When you read 5 or 6 books a week it's a real pleasure when the story is fun, and you wish you could be there and meet all people you feel like you could to be friends with. That's when you know an author puts their heart in the story. It's what makes it worthy of time and spirit you invest in reading the story. Thanks for putting your heart and soul into your writings.
Wow what can I say about this book other than it was freaking amazing. It carries on from where book 1 left off with December and her friends. She has a hard time accepting that she needs a new mentor to replace Rowan. Once she agrees to let Crispin take over from the death of her mentor. The book goes through lots of twists and turns to and epic ending leaving you needing to know how they all carry on. I highly recommend you read this book as I don't like to leave spoilers so you will have to read this amazing book too
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. This series is going to be an amazing one, if book's 1 & 2 are anything to go by. This book is out of this world with all of it's twists and turns, what's not to love. The main character December learns a lot about herself in this instalment and also trys to get some control over her unpredictable powers. Her friend Shaela has some exciting time's in this book. I absolutely, definitely recommend this book/series 💞💖
What can I say about The Zephyr, book 2 in Wendi L. Wilson’s Oberon Academy series? How about it’s AMAZING! I loved it just as much as I did the first. The world is well thought out and the story flows so well, I had in read in no time. This book had everything I hoped it would and more with the addition of a new mysterious mentor and some major twists I did not see coming. I can’t wait for book three to release to see where December’s journey takes her next.
December is devestated by her loss, and has a new mentor she has concerns about, she has to find out what he's up to! I was heartbroken for December as she came to terms with her loss, and touched that Eastern and Shaela wouldn't let her push them away. Can December accept the truth about her new teacher? And the secrets to come about her herritage? I loved this book, and this series is my new addiction!
This is another amazing book from this author. It is very well written and the story and characters are well developed. I love the characters individual personalities and enjoyed watching their relationships grow and develop throughout the books. The story continued seamlessly from book one. It was action packed with plenty of twists and turns. There was plenty of suspense, intrigue, emotion, chemistry and romance.
I’m loving this series!! More surprises and lots of excitement in book two! Also, lots of romance...VERY IMPORTANT!! I am completely invested in this story and it’s characters! We see so much growth in especially the main character, December Thorne!! But also in her friends and how loyal and steadfast they are to her. I freaking love Easton!!!! *Swoon* I’m diving right in to book three!! Heather Costa does a fantastic job on the narration!!
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible Membership)
The Dark Fae, known here as the Zephyr, are trying to take over the human world and destroy the light Fae, the Sylphids, as well. However, our young orphan has learnt a lot about herself, her abilities, and her ancestry. Each new revelation is a blow, and yet, it allows her to understand who she is and how she came into existence.
I enjoyed reading this book more then the first one, I enjoyed the writing of this novel as well. The storyline was solid and had a lot of well-written scenes. The characters have come such a long way, and I loved the shocking twist, I mean I kind of saw it coming but then again, in the beginning, I had a few other ideas. LOVE EASTON he's so much more.
I really really really liked this book!!! Stop reading now if you don't want spoilers!!
It turns out that December's father is........... Kris!!! Her mentor and teacher and son the Zepher Queen!!! I haven't read into the third one far enough to know who December's mom is but I'm so excited to find out!!!!!
In the YA genre, this isn't quite as good as the Shadowspire books, and totally outclassed by Cassandra Clare. But it's still a good read, with a strong female protagonist, interesting characters and a nice environmental message.
Most sequels struggle to live up to the first book but this one does. Mostly based at the academy, we watch as December comes into her powers, a new mentor that she is unsure of. Will Queen Sebille come for her? Trust me this is one sequel you want to read!
