Here again, I know some will never read this book yet be sure they'd hate it.

The problem we have here in America right now (well one of many but this is a basic one) is that we are so divided that we've reached the point we aren't even willing to listen to each other. I saw a plea on line a couple of days ago to try and get the President Impeached.

People there has to be a breach of law for impeachment... BUT it seems people feel that if they don't like the Pres. (or have been told not to like him...or hate him) that it's reason enough to impeach someone.

Think about this. Several times I've had the experience of meeting someone and finding we have something in common, a certain type of music, a favorite book or writer...maybe a musical artist...whatever. We start to get along, maybe we're laughing and somehow something brings up who voted for who or whatever...and when they find I'm "conservative" I can see the walls go up. No matter what's gone before certain "assumptions" kick in.

Can we please at least start to think for ourselves? Can we stop letting TV commentators, university profs, and other "pundits" tell us what to think,. who to like and what to believe???

Anyway this book runs down a historical path of left wing thought (please don't disagree with it without reading it) which has led to some of the odd thinking of today.

One of the oddest most delusional ideas of late is the left wing and radical Islam together. It's like a sign I saw in a photo where a sign was being carried down the street that said "Gays and Islamics Together"... Under sharia law gays get beheaded.

Look...just try reading the book. Both political extremes tend to only read and listen to what they think will already agree with them and not challenge them...just try. Okay?

Read this for research on conservatism and terrorism since the 1970s; useful for that purpose, but terrible as an argument/polemic. Full of guilt by loose association, lumping everyone to the left of Bush as the radical Left, and ultimately does not prove there was an alliance between Radical Islam and the American Left. Just because both camps critique U.S. foreign policy does not mean they are in an alliance. There's a case to be made that much left-wing criticism of USFP is overblown and a little nuts, but this screed doesn't come close to making an effective or balanced case.

Excellent history of the Left's courtship of Islam, which is weird because Islam is everything that the Left hates. Nonetheless, their hate for America is even greater, and provides the common link. This book is quite disturbing. We are farther down the pike that I thought.

In this brilliant and extensive work , David Horowitz provides a dammning critique of the radical left in the USA , and their evil alliance , based on hatred of America and Western civilization , with Islamic terror.

"Unholy Alliance' is chilling in it's exploration of the depths to which the left will sink , Horowitz deals with the sick and twisted thinking that has led to the Hitler-Stalin Pact of the 20th century , the close alliance between the extreme left and Islamic radicals.

These are the same forces that supported the Soviet Union and it's proxies during the Cold War , denouncing the USA and the West as the source of all evil , and excusing the crimes of the Communist Bloc.

Despite the fact that on face value the Left and the Islamic fundamentalists differ diametrically on social issues , such as womens and gay rights , these differences fade into insignifficance as the two forces of evil are united by their hatred, defining the USA and of course , Israel, as the source of all that is wrong in the world today .He quotes leftists who claim that Islamic terrorists are 'basically forces of national liberation' or that 'the real terrorists have always been the United States of America'.

Horowitz presents a dammning critique of the so-called 'anti-war movement , which was created in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks to attack the USA after the USA was attacked , to defeat the war on terror , to prop up brutal dictatorships like that of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, and the regimes of Iran , Syria, North Korea and Cuba.

The book explores who was behind the the 'anti-war movement' , or more accurately the movement to defend and protect the Saddam Hussein regime: The massive anti-war protests in North America where organized and funded by International ANSWER , a front for the Stalinist Workers World Party. The Workers World Party defends Stalin's purges and has in it's sordid history , supported the Soviet invasions on Hungary , Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan , supported Pol Pot's genocide of the Cambodian people , congratulated the regime of Red China on the Tianmen Square massacre , fully backs the regimes today of North Korea , Red China , Zimbabwe , Vietnam and Cuba , fully supports suicide bombings against Israeli men , women and children , and the violent destruction of Israel , in other words it is an outfit of unrelenting evil.
Not only does International ANSWER openly support Saddam Hussein , and defend his excesses , they also described their protests as commemorations of the 'Al Aqsa Intifada' a campaign of suicide bombings and shootings of Jewish children , launched by the Palestinian Authority , after walking out of the Oslo Peace Talks in 2000.
Another stalwart of the anti-war demonstrations , was Not In Our Name , a front created by the Revolutionary Communist Party ,a Marxist-Leninist group aligned with Communist China. NION , like ANSWER openly supported Saddam Hussein and the HAMAS and Hezbollah terrorist organizations.
Horowitz also outlines the career of the hate-monger Noam Chomsky who has supported tyrant regimes and terrorist movements , as part of his campaign of hate against America , and his dedication to destroying Israel and anihilating it's five million Jews.

An example of the hypocrisy . Marxist lawyer Lynne Stewart, has defended Islamic JIhad terrorist kingpins as part of a crusade of 'movement advocacy'. Stewart has stated : " I don't have any problem with Mao or Stalin or the Vietnamese leaders or certainly Fidel locking up people who they see as dangerous. Because so often dissidence has been used by the greater powers to undermine a people's revolution" So Horowitz so rightly points out : "totalitarian repression - complete with firing squads and gulags is fine for Communist states as far as Stewart is concerned , but criminilizing acts that aid and abet terrorists in a democracy is not"

The book also has a chapter on the struggle of the Islamic world , together with the nihilistic Left , against tiny Israel, and a chapter on that revolting hatefest in Durban in 2001 , known as the 'World Conference on Racism' which was nothing other that a Nuremberg rally against Israel, Jews and Western democracy , adressed by terrorist leader Arafat, , and the leaders of such bastions of freedom and human rights as Sudan , Libya , Iran , Syria, Cuba , North Korea, Red China , Zimbabwe , who all recieved standing ovations and red carpet treatment
The genocide of the Black South Sudanese , the occuaption of Tibet , and the tyranny of Robert Mugabe , where all ignored , or openly celebrated!

Reading the book, one shakes ones head , wondering if there is any evil the hard left will not support.
It is clear to see that those forces who oppose the modest claims of the Jewish people to a small homeland , are the same forces who oppose democracy and freedom throughout the world.
today it takes the form of the battle for the soul of the world between the believers in Judeo-Christian/Western/democratic values on the one side and the hard left/Islamic alliance ,whose ultimate aim is the total destruction of Judeo-Christian and Western civilization , on the other.
Throughout the world the universities are dominated by these same forces who justify every tyrant regime and terrorist organization as part of the battle against the cardboard bogeys set up by the left : 'colonialism' , 'imperialism' and 'globalization'.
Thus they will use the struggle against `colonialism', 'imperialism' and 'globalization' to justify and encourage the killing of Israeli women and children, and totalitarian brutality in regimes such as Red China, Cuba, Libya , Syria , Zimbabwe , Venezuela etc.
It is no wonder that these forces which have no respect for human life will terrorize those who do not conform to their sick and twisted ideas.
Let us pray that George W Bush , (may G-D bless him for removing Saddam and his Nazi regime from power) will continue to be firm in resolve , in the war on terror and tyranny and that the West and Israel will in the words of Churchill 'never surrender' . May the forces of darkness , the Islamic terrorists and their Satanic Marxist allies be defeated and destroyed.
G-D bless the USA and Israel.

Tremendously insightful with strong evidence to support facts presented. This was invaluable to me, clearing up my inadequate understandings. I recommend this to all those seriously interested in knowing the truth.

Brushed aside for years until it's relevance has peaked in 2010 with the recognition of the active left's relationship with radicalized Islam. See: code pink, cair, open society, tides and on and on.

Mr Horowitz poses a question which I think is very important; how come the Left, in the broadest sense of the word, has aligned its interested with Radical Islam?

His book takes a hard look at the post-9/11 fallout, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and how the actors at the time reacted. What he does well is to try not to sweep it all on one big heap, but categorises for the various sentiments and ideals. We meet the neo-communists, who have transitioned from old-school economic marxism (with the rich – poor class conflict) to new cultural marxism (with the oppressor – oppressed conflict). We meet the utopians, who hold to an idea of socialism which has never been successfully implemented (case nowadays where it has not been implemented as well; Venezuela). The nihilists, who hold a dim view of life, hate who they are and what they stand for, oikophobes. Anti-americans, who hold the Third World as the epitome of that which is good and everything in and from the Americans and their patsies as evil. And finally, the dictators around the world who found common cause in resisting American hegemony, the Great Satan.

I like the categories as a way to think about the various sentiments and ideologies. However, it feels they are way too restrictive to apply to particular persons. The book does a good job of documenting history.

I like that the author deconstructs the lies, fantasies and ideology of the left.
Although the book is from 2004, much of the in the book described ideology and extreme rhetoric survived or even amplified to the present time (2024).
That being said, I was still struggling between 3 and 4 stars. The author lists the lies and justifications of the Bush administrations as facts and more or less defends the war against Iraq.
I think time has shown that this war was a waste of time, resources, money and worst of all many people died in the aftermath. There could be a debate if a quick withdrawal within the first year after the defeat of the Sadam regime would have made the whole war more successful or justified, but the long occupation in the end just strengthened the islamic radicals and destabilized the region.
An interesting book, that offers the reader a glimpse into a conservative perspective of the early 2000s.

This is a controversial book and has its pros and cons.

On the pro side, for me at any rate, I think the author hits the nail on the head where the American Left's seeming antipathy towards America and her history is concerned and their eagerness to align themselves with any external groups and/or ideologies that oppose America.

On the con side, he's entirely too hawkish for my taste. While he makes a lucid argument for America's involvement overseas, I don't subscribe to his notions. I prefer a non-interventionist approach to foreign policy.

And then there is his stance as an apologist for the Bush regime and its doctrine of nation-building and interventionism. This is where anyone, regardless of political stripes loses me. Invading Iraq is one of the three biggest US foreign policy blunders in our history. It's indefensible. And yet, he defends it.

This was a very good book. I initially supported going into Afghanistan but was puzzled with the invasion of Iraq. As of right now, I now believe the United States should have never invaded that nation. I have never been considered to be left leaning. I feel Mr. Horowitz's depiction of everyone opposed to the war having to be far left is simply wrong. I have never hated the United States of America. Obviously, most people are opportunists, on every side. Such people will say or do virtually anything to further their own agenda.
However, I have always been perplexed as to why those who assertively proclaim women's and other minority rights should be so muted when it comes to the more radical aspects of Islam. Mr. Horowitz answers this by stating that a shared hated of the West and especially the United States is their greatest motivating force.

Why do neo-Communists idolize the fundamentalist strains of a religion:
which encourages beheading of homosexuals
which encourages beheading of Jews
which encourages husbands to cut the noses off their wives for talking back
which encourages beheading of YOU if you are not a radical Islamist?

Mr. Horowitz who was a hard-core leftie in the 60s has answers which are succinctly put in his 260 page volume. Radical Islamists would therefore feel they owe him a good beheading. even if he were not a Jew.

I just read this again for the second time. It remains so important and timely with everything that is currently going on...all of this chaos is so orchestrated and manipulated by the same bad actors that have been doing this for decades...; praying that more and more realize how gullible they are being in response to the manipulation and that those that are supportive of a lot of this, merely on an uninformed emotional basis, get informed quickly and reorient themselves...

I am just about to finish reading this book for the second time. I forgot how good it is!! Published in 2004, four years BEFORE the Obama "Hope and Change" campaign, UNHOLY ALLIANCE is more relevant today than ever! In this book, David Horowitz discusses the deep roots of the Leftist/Progressive dream of TRANSFORMATION for our world and for America. American Leftist and Radical Islamist activists both seek to TRANSFORM the world and America by compromising our traditional values and institutions, and raising up their own idealogical world order instead. UNHOLY ALLIANCE details some of these activists, their groups and their funding. An example is The Ford Foundation. I was stunned to learn that it has a $12.4 BILLION dollar endowment! This money is used to fund many Leftist projects. Examples are the Brazilian Workers Party World Social Forum, and the protest groups at the notorious U.N. Durban Conference. We need to recognize these individuals and organizations, their conceptual world, their methods and their strategies, in order to push back and defend our public institutions, our freedoms and our way of life.

Very hard book to read. Horowitz is so intelligent I found it hard to read. But it is one of the most important books of our century. I believe that.
