Franklin helps his friends build their own collection of trading cards. This Level 2 first reader contains longer stories, varied sentences, increased vocabulary, more difficult visual clues and some repetition.
Franklin and his two friends are getting trading cards out of cereal boxes. One day Franklin gets two cards that neither of his friends has and must decide who gets the extra one.
I wasn't fond of this on my first read-through back in 2003 -- and neither was my three-year-old daughter -- but this time I had a better appreciation of the clever solution to the quandary.
FOR REFERENCE:
Based on the TV episode Franklin and the Trading Cards (Season 4, Episode 9), written by John Van Bruggen. Based on the Franklin books by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark.
My kids loved this book about Franklin collecting trading cards. It's climax is when Franklin has two of the same rare card that both his friends want, and he is trying to decide to whom to give the extra. I didn't like it as much because it was all about the lengths Franklin and friends went to get the trading cards and I tried to hide it from the kids, so I didn't have to read it.
