Aan de ene kant zie ik de beschreven mensen zo voor me, aan de andere kant kan ik niet elke gedachtegang even goed volgen. Wel vind ik het extra boeiend om zo een kijkje te kunnen nemen in de wereld van toen, die zo anders was dan nu. Het geeft een rijkere leeservaring dan een historische roman, waarin de mensen vaak stiekem toch moderne opvattingen hebben.
