The Heart of Twilight is a unique collection of thirty short horror stories inspired by Duran Duran songs' titles from the new Indie master of the macabre, Martin McGregor. This collection contains the three distorted visions anthologies and includes a brand new story entitled 'Love Voodoo'. From the young woman leading a children's crusade to an unwanted family of ghosts living in a young woman's house, a vampiric child stalking in the shadows who must find new human shells if it wants to survive. A woman convinced that her former lover had been placed under a spell and will do anything to save him and bring him home, to an unexpected effect of a Covid vaccine, these quick reads offer something for all tastes. They will satisfy even the most ardent horror fans and leave you hungry for more!
Recently, I had the opportunity to read Distorted Visions and I was blown away by the connection with the short stories. As a fan of the band whose music inspired the chapter titles, the stories allowed me to think outside my perception of how I viewed the songs. What's even more delightful about the stories is the psychological terror that the reader feels as they turn the page of the anthology. The scenes in "Taste The Summer" took me back to junior high and watching one of my friends being constantly bullied by others. I have several additional favorites, but in the interim, I highly suggest adding this book to your must-read list!
I love author Martin McGregor's horror and dark paranormal books and I have especially enjoyed his Distorted Visions collection, based on the music of Duran Duran! I love the concept of short stories inspired by music lyrics, and I love how each story had such fun twists. A luxury vacation and a couple that parts ways.. but what really happened once they were parted, version A or B? A man and a woman confront each other on a stairwell. I didn't anticipate where that one was going. This collection was a treat that I enjoyed, a few stories at a time. Highly recommended! 5/5 stars.
