I write what I enjoy in the hopes that others will enjoy it as well. I've always been drawn to the macabre. Vampires, werewolves, you name it.

I've never written about the paranormal because it's popular. I do it because that's what I'm interested in. If the vampire fad ever passes, I'll still be sitting here in my Dracula cape, getting my fang on.

This one isn't for me. Jane was an idiot with no self respect or back bone. The side characters were all creeps except Micheal maybe and the vamps. I found myself skipping paragraphs due to my loathing of what I was reading.

This is the second story I've read by this author, since the stories I have are part of an anthology by this author. So I've one more to go. Jane is working at a University and has fantasies of having sex with two vampires. So when she meets Luis, he is her dream guy and she feels like she already knows him. They bond and get much closer and he finally reveals that she is his reincarnated lover and that he and their friend Henri had sought out a necromancer in order to keep her spirit alive. And this explains Jane's sudden necromancy powers. It also explains her connection to Henri, who it turns out and unbeknownst to Luis, also was her lover in her previous life, but she fell in love with Luis after believing Henri dead and he stepped back so they could be together. But he suffers without her and they work out a way to be together. In the meantime they're dealing with zombies and killers and some sleazoid people in their lives.

I can't say that this is poorly written, but I wasn't terribly impressed. So much of it seemed rather cookie cutter, especially in characterization. I saw almost no difference between Henri and Luis as per their personalities and it is some kind of wonder that Jane's only romantic prospect before this was a creepy married guy who lied to her since EVERY guy in this book who met her lusted after her. Except for her best friend Michael who she forgot about for large parts of the book...I mean, he did hide a body for her and she never gave him a second thought. I knew this was a menage going in, but given her propensity to attract guys, I seriously wondered if she wasn't going to have an orgy instead (Erik, Nicholas, Burt, Marcel, Henri and Luis - yikes).

I also couldn't help but feel like this was way too similar to the previous story I read, what with the characters jetting off to Miami to go to a vampire club and the way the relationship worked out. I think I prefer a menage story where the heroine falls in love with her heroes simultaneously, because then it feels more even. But here it felt like she kind of loved one more than the other and was rather unfaithful in wanting the other one... I'm not articulating it well, but it felt off (just like the last one). I also had an issue with the sheer amount of sleazoid characters in this story. I get that there are going to be a few and the aim is realism (although I hope that's not real life) but all these married guys sleeping around, wife beaters and skanky women. Made me feel sleazy just reading about them.

I received this book as a set along with her book Bitten. These books were just a little too like Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series, but with less violence. Some of the characters reminded me a LOT of the characters in that series and the terminology was almost exactly the same. I also noticed that there was a sex scene in each book that was almost entirely word for word. I may not have noticed this if I had not read them back to back, but as a reader I like my authors to be a little more imaginative and original.
