You've probably heard of 'fan fiction' - this is kind of that but much more. A group of writers have come together to pen stories based around Max Speed's top ten comedy book 'Lads Reunited' - their own take on the characters. New storylines, new characters and some more hilarious adventures.

Every story brings a different style. Characters are taken to new places and developed in fresh ways. Whether it's Onia Fox focusing on Alexa's school days (and Khan's school 'crush'), Marc Jonathan Stow sharing Baz's teenage years during the football of Euro '96, Amanda Sheridan writing about Lee extinguishing any hope with a hottie, Simone Stazi with a clever 'diary' style overview of life with a psychologist or James Huck's equally hilarious tale about Steve's first day at uni, there's something for everyone.

We've even got JJ Mousetrappe with a children's story within a 'Lads' tale, Owen Kiff poetically reminiscing and Arlene Lomazoff-Marron with the boys on bikes (yeah, real bikes). Laughter throughout.

I just love Max Speed, so funny, and I adore the Lads Reunited franchise!
The Need For Speed is a collection of fan-fic shorts relating to Lads Reunited - it really is very entertaining.
After a few formatting problems with the first issue, I now have my replacement paperback, and love it. From the first hilarious coming-of-age story, Alexa, to a time traveling romp through the informative years to close this collection - everyone of the 13 (unlucky for some) stand alone shorts are highly entertaining!!
I don’t want to mess with the Max Speed marketing machine, but I personally would recommend reading Lads Reunited before The Need For Speed.
Enjoy and get ready to laugh out loud!

Wow. I am a big fan of the Tom Sharpe-esque Max Speed but this book takes Max's writing to a new direction. It's a group of other writers and even some fans of Speed taking his / her characters off in different stories - so many clever ideas. Really fun short stories.
You need to be a Max Speed fan to really love this book. Amazing fan fiction that seemed to evolve characters in ways that even max speed would not have imagined. Brilliant.

A great book!
This is a great read with some fantastic stories from some even more amazing authors. The diversity in how different authors see and interpret their own genre onto the characters is great to see and shows how everyone sees the same but in a different way. The only downside I would say is that the book could have done with a little editing, but apart from that well worth the read and highly recommended.

The Need for Speed is a collection of short stories written by the fans of the Lads Reunited series. People have taken their favourite characters and written basically fan fiction around them, so we have a collection of witty and varied pieces that delves into the fans impression of the characters.
It is a fitting tribute to a series that is full of laughter and fun.
