Basically I became interested in becoming a writer after reading Terry McMillan’s novel Disappearing Acts. In 2004 my author dreams were realized via the release of my controversial debut novel My Daughter’s Boyfriend, the story of a 34-year old single mother that becomes attracted to her teenage daughter’s boyfriend.
I love writing about marriage, infidelity, juicy love triangles, family, romance, women's issues, and male/female relationships. It never gets boring to write about what human beings go through.
My novels make you think and feel! If it doesn't do that, I haven't done my job.
My novels/interviews have been featured in USA Today, Black Beat Magazine, Publishers Weekly, Jewel Magazine, Today's Black Woman, Vibe Vixen, Quarterly Black Review, Booking Matters Magazine, Essence magazine, Ebony magazine, Black Expressions Book Club, among others.
The heroine of this book told her husband to have a mistress because her sex drive was off.
Let me give you a minute to process that,ok?
Oh well. All done, are we? As you can see, the writer of this horrible and utterly shitty magnificent book, is not only making a laughing stock of a legitimate medical condition, she is also painting her heroine as someone who suffers from brain damage.
Can you say BAD FORM? How about BAD TASTE?
The heroine’s husband luuuuvs her, but, alas, he brakes their utterly moronic agreement no sane woman would consent to ‘pact’ to just rub it off with his (brand new!) mistress and -naturally- the evil OW gets pregnant.
Because condoms and the pill are just so taboo in today's world, aren’t they?
Oh, and how can I forget? The evil OW wants him to leave his wife. Because she is an evil bitch. I understand that. I sympathize! Who shouldn’t want a cheating scumbag that goes around rubbing his penis against other women while his wife is ill?
And the hero?
(Lord, I almost choked on the word ‘hero’)
Well, he wants them all! The mistress, the wife, the works!
Why? Because now he has a SON! And we know those are worth more than anything else. Eff those girls! They suck big time!
(was this not written by a woman??)
Oh yeah! Booo-yaaah! He is the man! All man! He has cool BOY producing sperm! Where are my pom-poms? Yahoooo!
Erm...where was I? I don't really know. And this book is not really worth the rew. *Throws the book away and goes for ice cream*
They kinda have to be a family because of the new kid.
He says I love you to the ow.
He continues to work with ow until the boss kick her out because of the child while married.
A lot of details sex scenes.
The kid from h and H has to live with all this shit.
h helps taking care of the baby because the ow is searching a new job
He has unprotected sex with both and they have to take antibiotics for clamidias.
They talked about the miscarriages that h suffers and H says that she was a train wreck. AND he says how happy he was when he left the ow pregnant bc that meant that he was going to have more kids!!
The ow insults the h in front of the H (saying how fat the h is and how little she satisfies him) all this the h was helping the ow.
They have sex (h and H) with protection and later he confess that every man fantasize about sleeping with Beyoncé or some models while fcking their wife’s.
He loses (the h and his) kid because he was talking in the phone with ow while taking care of the ow and his son. The kid appears minutes later but…
He is more in lust with the ow than with the h
The h saves the kid of the ow and H of being chocked, the ow wasn’t able to help him and was the h who saw what happened. The ow leaves after that and left the kid with h for a couple of hours (more)
At this point I’m like… HOW HOW HOW are they going to end together?!?!
366/400 it’s when he stops the affair. Bro… well he denies her. Even the ow mum is like get out of that.
Someone from church:
“Neil’s affair with Dani, the miscarriages, and our bedroom issues. Of course, I have to spell out certain words because of Braxton, but Zaire catches on fast. “Sista,” Zaire says, “it takes a lot of strength to tell me all this. But that indicates you’re ready for a change. Can’t say I blame you.” She laughs. “But seriously, as I sit here and listen to the things you’ve said about your husband, his friend, et cetera, I do get one major impression: The problems you’re having aren’t about the marital contract, they’re not about you. Not about him, that woman, or even this precious little baby.” “What did you say?” I ask, darkness clouding my eyes as I stare at this woman. “Do you understand that I’ve put up with so much mess I almost lost my mind? I’ve sacrificed, put my health in jeopardy, and trusted him too many times to count.”
FUCK NO!!! I hate hate hate when Christian books does this.
Page 386 THE h APOLOGIES WTF and this is the end:
“I’m going to be a better wife to you, and I believe you can be a better husband. But the one thing that I demand must change is Dani’s presence, you understand me? We have to establish and protect our boundaries. So Dani is no longer welcome here, Neil. Ever. And I don’t want you seeing her anymore. I need to know if you can handle that”
“Neil, regardless of how tough things are, I won’t play second fiddle anymore. Not when I know I have a God-given right to claim you. The vows we gave to the Lord are still good. He hasn’t forgotten the vows, and He will bless this union if we do what’s right in His eyes. Not in our own eyes. You up to the task?” ”
I have no words. This was like a Christian romance for POC. The H was so much more turned on by his OW/GF and even after the h asked him to stop and try with her he kept fucking the OW. I can’t believe in the H/h HEA. And I have lots of thoughts about how this H/OW relationship was handled (religiously, culturally, morally) but I’ll keep them to myself.
I wanted to jump in this book and choke out the three main characters. Anya is a doormat. I know it probably happens, but there is NO WAY on this green earth NOR any other planet that I would stay with my 'husband' (quotes, because he was barely that) after he gave me a disease. NO way, NO how. And the NERVE and unmitigated gall at him just giving Anya the pills? Why the HELL wouldn't she refuse? I don't care if Jesus Christ himself handed me some pills and told me to take them, the FIRST thing I'm asking is what they are and why...and even then, I'm STILL not taking them, and I'm going to Google my ass off, and THEN I might proceed to hurt him. Not sure. Can't call it.
Dani is some kind of confused ass. Crying about how she can't have a 'real' relationship, promising to Anya that she won't sleep with Neil anymore, and STILL trying to do it every chance she got. I forget how old she's supposed to be in this book, but she acted very young. I'm sure she loved her baby, but all she was concerned about was being with Neil, and I think that was on her mind more than her kid.
And Neil. THAT sorry MF...He NEVER admitted responsibility. I suppose we should be happy he's there for his son? But honestly, what brand of hot buttered bullshit is HE smoking? The night he called his wife by Dani's name, there is no way I'd go BACK and sleep with him. I would have to promptly tell him to leave and go to his whore's house. I hated him most of all. No accountability. Getting mad at his wife when he does screwed up shit, which happened practically every single page. There are only so many 'I'm sorrys', and he reached his quota very early on.
Eff ALL of this. The entire story pissed me off so bad. I almost stopped reading this, TWICE, but I'm not a DNF girl. (Honestly, I think I need to get some stars for finishing this shit.)

This book was slow and just bothered the crap out of me. How stupid was the main character Anya? She gave her husband permission to cheat, is literally insane for letting the baby mama come into their house on several occasions like a friend or family member, and then decides she wants her husband to herself again after all of that. There was really no climax to the story and it was just blah. I do give Rax credit though, the editing was near flawless but the story just didn't do it for me. I did really like one of her other books My Daughter's Boyfriend, so I might still check some of her other books out.
The more I read on into this book the more pissed off I got. I can't believe I read it all the way to the end. What woman in their right mind would agree to their husband having a girlfriend? Did she really expect that her husband would go along with their deal and not break the rules?? The wife took it very well she always was the doormat in the situation. She didn't have a voice. It upset me because when she did speak, she wasn't heard. Everyone in the book pissed my soul off beside Vette. She was the only one who had some actual common sense. I will say that the author did a good job with suspense. I couldn't even predict what was going to happen next. I would recommend it but the story had my blood pressure rising too much. I couldn't keep calm. Not sure if I would read anymore stories by this author because of this book.
When I first read the synopsis of this book...I thought, "O' HELL no!" So of course, I wanted to read it, just to find about these crazy characters. But as I started reading, I found it was kind of interesting. So many things this novel could turn into. A writer could have a field day with this idea, especially if you throw out all conventional ideas of relationships.
I truly believe that so many marriages don't last because everyone falls in love with an idea of what it SHOULD be. But no two people are the same, correct? So why should any two marriages be? People get too hung up on fairytales and things about movies and relationships that just aren't realistic. So...enough about my opinion, about the book!
From what I've read so far I want to keep reading. I want to know how this plays out.
Do I think this woman is wrong to offer her husband a mistress? NO. Do I think she is wrong to expect him to get no attachments to this woman and mostly for it to be JUST oral sex? YES. I mean if you're going to give the man a mistress, you might as well let it go all the way. Intercourse and all. She wants him to be satisfied, but under her limitations. These things don't work like that.
Anywho, I'll write more after I've read more.
So I've finished the book. At times I couldn't put it down. I was in awe of this wife. I definitely understood where she was coming from. If I was a single woman, I would probably think she was stupid and weak, but as a married woman I think she is very strong. It is hard to keep your marriage good and happy ALL THE TIME. It is so easy to say, "I want a divorce." But I have always said I don't believe in divorce. But this woman took a lot of ish in this book.
I thought it was thoughtfully written. There were a few editing errors, and a few characters I really didn't like. But it was a very thought provoking book.
I liked this book I just thought it was slow and drawn out in most spots. It was also over the top and unrealistic. Anya the wife in this book is definitely ONE OF A KIND. This novel is a mess that just keeps getting worse. I actually got angry at most of the characters. I just couldn't believe nor stand that these people not only keep making the same mistakes over and over but also on the other hand, continuously put up with it. I wish there would have been a better ending as well. It ended rather abruptly. It didn't seem like anything really worked itself out or got solved. . . realistically that is. The characters solve the problems that have been plaguing them this entire novel on one quick page near the very end and live happily ever after. Not fulfilling at all after trudging my way through this entire book.
I love/hate this book. It explores the cheating theme very well but it is a very emotionally draining read. The wife annoyed me because she put herself in a position that no other wife would. She was a complete doormat, yet her actions were to an extent quite realistic. The mistress was just a bitch. She acted like an innocent to the wife, but had double intentions. The husband was the biggest idiot of them all. He acted like he wasn't in the wrong and kept cheating! The wife should have left his ass to teach him a lesson but because she didn't she actually encouraged his behaviour.
A very good read for those of you who like the cheating-theme.
I just got done reading this book and i got so fustrated many times with all characters except vette and the kids and riley..first of all with Neil for agreeing with Anya's contract. If he couldnt handle her the way she was then he didn't deserve her and needed to find a woman who could make him happy instead of putting himself in a tempting situation and 2nd of all for still going behind Anya's back and doing things he wasn't suposed to be doing and knew was wrong and he knew would hurt Anya if she found out. Then i was mad at Anya for her not sticking up for herself alittle more and just being the passive wife and not getting on Neil more about the way things need to be. Either her or me and she didnt really say that till the middle of the book. She could have done it on her own.. there are many women that do. i am one of them. She does not have to put up with that. at least i wouldnt. And last but not least Dani.. the little bitch who wouldn't leave Anya's husband alone after she knew they were going to work on there relationship. She couldnt just leave him alone and find herself her own man, even after Anya told her how she felt several times she still went behind her back also. Anya had him first fair and square and Neil was not leaving his family for a little lust affair. If he wanted to leave her he would have done that by now.dont u think? But Anya had alot of patience..something i wouldnt have had in that situation.. oVERALL A GOOD BOOK.
Even though I couldn't picture anyone dealing with the situation I really enjoyed the storyline and narration. There's no way I could have dealt with things the way Anya did. She had her moments where she snapped but I don't think I would've allowed things to get the way they were without someone getting physically hurt, sheesh. Talk about messy! I enjoyed the play of spirituality that came into the story. And I rwally liked the relationship between Anya and Vette, Vette was a little firecracker. All in all it was a pretty good listen that tugged at my emotions up and down.
This booked pissed me off every.single.chapter. I pray to God that a woman like the character, Anya, doesn't exist in real life. There's just no damn way a sane woman would propose something so ridiculous!! I felt myself becoming VERY annoyed with the three main characters!!!! I only finished the book because I paid for it!
I’ve never read such a doormat h and I love reading about cheating tropes, but this one made me want to reach into my phone and slap the sense into h. Like she just stood by and let all that happened because of her faith?! I’m sorry, but there’s a difference in having grace and being a doormat.
And don’t get me started on the H. This man got to have his cake and eat it while both woman fought for his attention and love. He loved the OW to the point that it was more than what he felt for the h but still decided to play loving husband and think by saying “I’m sorry” that he’ll always get a pass after it’s done. The h gave the husband wayyyyyy to many passes and both the H and OW knew. They continued their affair while the h stood by praying.
Girl I’m sorry but hiding behind your faith instead of standing up for yourself and your family is cowardice. Why would the H change if the h didn’t do anything about it except get snippy? I would of filed for divorce sooo quickkkk before he could even think about saying sorry. The man didn’t even grovel enough!! Thats what’s pissing me off even more about this sorry! The man never went to rock bottom and realize his mistakes to change, instead the wife had to make the changes and force the decisions for him. H would of continued doing all this and probably will.
I’ve never read such a selfish H. His hand was forced in giving up the OW when he loved her soooo muchhh. (Gag) give me a break. That tells you right there that this man will do this again. Wheewwwwww I’m pissedddd, but other than that this was a Hell of a good cheating story. Haven’t had a rage read in a while and this gave me that.
I read this book in my twenties and I'm 39 now and sometimes I like to reread a book. I remember it being so good but this time around it was hard to get through. I think its because I'm older and it just doesn't appeal to me at this age. The characters were a bit annoying at times.
The story line was a little slow at some points which is ironic considering all the drama that takes place. But it did keep my attention until the end so for that I'll rate it as pretty good. What frustrated me the most was how unrealistic the story was. No woman in their right mind would be ohk with parenting their husbands love child, let alone have the woman over for thanksgiving. What I did love about this book were the moments of reflection between the characters and themselves and God. It made you reflect upon your own morals while reading.
this book makes a good case for polygamy, had she choose a second wife and not just give husband to have "oral" relations some of the drama could have been avoided. That said I like that it addressed the unofficial two families that exist w/o the benefits of polygamy. African Polygamy where FIRST WIFE choose and he can AFFORD to take care of both
Read this book with an open mind. Anya and Neil are having problems in the bedroom. After Anya’s second miscarriage, she seemed to experience a terrible decline in her sex drive, and in my opinion, was depressed as well. Their problem got so bad that Anya drew up a contract allowing her husband to have oral sex with another woman, no penetration, or getting to close to the person.
Neil took it and ran with it; he produced a baby, STD’s, and so much disrespect towards his wife and the mother of his first-born that I hated his character. Neil was a weak male in my opinion, who preached about God and the fact that his wife had made him go out and have an affair. Maybe she did, but this man had so much bull within him, that it was hard to even see his side of things. I mean; the woman he cheats with is a co-worker, someone he had been eyeing the whole time.
His wife actually attempted to do something most women cannot and will not do to make a spouse happy. In the end, Neil and his other woman got a babysitter, cook, and forgiveness for the trauma they put Anya threw. This was not a poor read at all, the author made me feel with her writing. Even though I didn’t like one of the characters, this was a solid read.
Ok so I was so intrigued by the plot of this book that I had to try it.
It is both unbelievable and I couldn’t out it down. But it was kind of like a train wreck.
Anya gives permission for her husband to have “relations” with other women, but with stipulations. But then he ends up getting another woman pregnant. What happens from there is just mind boggling. I’m aware that this is a book and therefore doesn’t have to follow any typical rules, but holy hell!
I both liked and despised the characters at different times for different reasons.
At any rate, I wouldn’t seek out another book like this one again, but also didn’t hate it. And yes, I realize this is one of the most unhelpful reviews… just trying to explain my thoughts. 🤪
***OH AND HERE’s an afterthought….. through all of this, including some pretty detailed sex scenes, there’s a huge reference to the MMC’s faith in God. THAT totally threw me off!***
Okay first off, I read this years ago. Forgot about it and then re-read recently while waiting for new books to come in the mail. First chapter in.. I remembered why I didn’t like it the first time.
This lady realizes she can’t quite “do it” for her husbands.. grants him permission to sleep with other people — problem 1
Said husband f*cks a chick at work and falls in love with her ANNDDDDDD gets the girl pregnant — problems 2-2000
Wife stays cause “she created this problem so she gotta live with it” — problems 2001-50000
Wife “sets boundary to stop seeing the side piece initmately”; husband ignores — problem 50001
Husband gives wife medicine and tells her to just take it without giving any hints as to why. She googles and find out it’s for STD — problems 50002 - infinity.
I would have killed that man. But they were happy at the end. To each their own buts it’s a HELLLLLL no for me.

Unbelievable, I know this is fiction; but seriously this is the craziest book I’ve read. Do not understand why a wife would be so desperate, crazy, or whatever to allow the herself to be disrespected by her husband and his girlfriend and put up with that situation. They should have never had such an arrangement and when he broke the rules of the arrangement she should have made him work harder for her time and love or just leave. Of course the wife is also to blame, what made her think a man would only have oral sex.
Definitely not a fan of this book by Cydney Rax. I will not recommend this to anyone
Despite what the other reviews will have you think, the cheating is not the issue in this story (come on, it's in the name). It's the toxic ideas about women's bodies, arousal, and role in the family. The nonstop observations from the mmc on his partners' weight and how it changes. And sentences like:
But as bad as things seem between me and Anya, I know I do many things right. Going to work every day, paying bills on time, mowing the lawn, and keeping my fists from making contact with Anya counts for something. At least I pray it does.
I had to read that twice. Was I supposed to root for this guy to repair his relationship? Like hell.
Absolutely filled me up with so much anger like all the characters except for the kids, Neil's sister and the neighbour as for everyone else I hate them. Neil receiving the mass of my anger, what a spineless man who is useless and weak, the least he could do is respect Anya but that was hard for him. Same goes for Dana, what a sly character, everyday talking about how men aren't interested but no sis if only she stopped being so high up Neil's booty, she would see options. Anya was dumb as fudge especially the incident where Neil got her sick like no guys, she still stayed.
This book is the worst piece of shit fiction I have encountered thus far. It was given to me during a closet clean and right about chapter 7 is how far they got and so did I. The wife is clearly insecure, weak, etc etc but what pisses me off more is the perspective of the husband. As I am reading, I get a feeling that this guy is in his 50’s but born in the 1950’s or before. He talks to her like a woman is beneath him, much like an abusive father. Awful book. Did not finish. Just about the dumbest shit I have attempted to read.
