The essays and poems in this book are deeply insightful into the need we humans have to connect more meaningfully with the natural world - and the need the natural world has for us to connect. This is one of the most beautiful and profound books I have read on the subject.
I found this in a used bookstore and of course it was what I needed in the moment. Some of the essays are ok. Others spoke deeply to me and I read them more than once. I will go back to those and reread them. And it is always lovely to have the Smokey the Bear Sutra at hand. There is some deep love and thinking in here along with some other ideas. I found myself wanting to pursue some topics more and it also made me sad to see this was written 20 years ago and we seem to have moved in the wrong direction rather than being inspired by the things inspiring these writers. Nevertheless I feel grounded optimism as Lynn Twist calls it.
Powerful essays that connect you deeper to the world around you. An Intimate View by Peter Levitt was so powerful, I had to read it over and over again, and to my husband. If you are a meditation practitioner, a Buddhist, an environmentalist, or do not subscribe to any of those labels and just want to connect deeper into the Earth, please do get this book from you local library.
