That kidnapping was absolutely wild, and to have the victim write a letter to their family/friends, stating they were leaving on their own free will was even wilder. Jasper, as a villain was pure perfection and his character had me ready to go to war. Needless to say, I felt no empathy for him when he lost his hand. The sub plot story about Wendy was heartbreaking, especially when it was preventable. The fact that orphan girls wishing for an escape, turn into pixies was genius! Those red cap fairies made my skin crawl and I wasn’t even in the story. I desperately need to know how Ms. Carla came up with the idea of “Voldermice”, she must have had a nightmare to come up with such a creature. My favorite quotes are “Everyone should be given a chance at redemption. If they reject the opportunity, then that is their choice”, “Don’t ever stop imagining fantastic things”, and “You’re the home, security and treasure I had always pirated for.” Just an FYI, the concept of mermaid foam grossed me all the way out and that’s why I don’t swim in the ocean now lol I wish I could give this book 10 stars!!!

A great continuation of the previous book, but this time with Captain Hook and Peter Pan as the fairytale the story is based upon.
Of course, being what these books have been, the fairy tale is way more twisted than you would think!
Bella, our wonderful main character, continues to shine as a woman who faces her fears head on.
Jasper the definitely rogue pirate captain with a past, emerges as an interesting contrast to Bella.
There are also other characters, but that would be a major spoiler, so I will keep it quiet!
Overall, the plot was way more intense this time for me. I think it's because of Jasper, who is a lot darker than Gerard. As a result, I often felt danger for Bella. That being said, I really enjoyed the unexpected swashbuckling adventure that combined elements of my favorite fairy tales and a bit of Pirates of Caribbean edgyness. There's less romance in this one, but it still has a romance thread, and I'm really looking forward to Book 3 where certain romances hopefully get their happily ever afters! Overall, a wonderful sequel to Bellarose and the Beast.
Content Warnings *spoilers ahead*
Jasper is a pirate, and so are his men. As a result, they tend to look at women sexually, and that is evident with how they view Bella. Bella is kidnapped and almost assaulted by Jasper several times. Jasper is prevented from making sexual advances but he definitely felt more predatory than Gerard. As a result, some may be uncomfortable with him, even though nothing happens and nothing is explicitly described. Also, he has a redemption arc of sorts. Other than that, there's no language and only PG level violence. If I had to rate it though, it might be closer to PG-13. If you've watched the Pirates movies, you should be fine.

If you read the previous version of this, you must give this one a try. Carla has worked hard on revisions and she did amazing. Do you love a good villian background story? How about a redemption story? We get to see what made Jasper the person he becomes. I loved it! Now onto book three.

What a wonderful continuation of the story that started in Bellarose and the Beast. I was so excited to dive back into this world and see what these characters would encounter next. It did not disappoint. I was completely immersed in it. The real world faded away, and I was right there in the middle of the story too.

This story reimagines Peter Pan and the Little Mermaid. I loved the nods to the original tale but also loved how unique it was too.

I loved revisiting the characters from the first book but also enjoyed meeting the new ones too. Jasper was a complex character. A dastardly pirate with a tough exterior, but every once in a while, he showed his compassionate side. Not often, but I really enjoyed seeing glimpses of the man he could be.

I enjoyed getting all the different POVs. Sometimes when there are multiple perspectives, it can get hard to tell whose it is. But that was not the case here. They were all distinctive, and it was easy to know who was who.

I'm so excited to start the next book to see how this fantastic series concludes. I highly, highly recommend this book to fans of fairytale retellings. Be sure to start with book one!

I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Jasper, a notorious and ruthless pirate, takes center stage in this retelling with a slow and methodical build till about halfway when it magically bursts into life on land and under the sea. The real story begins as we are taken to a magical realm on an island. Aerowyn is still manipulating lives and so is someone else. The why and how remain quite vague.

Jasper is a very dislikable character… you know, the kind you love to hate. As he continues to put his awful attitude and selfishness to the forefront, the danger to Bellarose increases.

Gerard remains bound to Areowyn and is always at her side or close by. He has tremendous character growth, insight and an enormous change of heart. He does have many questions about his own happiness and destiny as do I. These questions, however, remain unanswered. Darn!

While Gerard is a bizarre retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Jasper’s story has threads of Peter Pan and…never mind. Not telling! You will have to read Jasper to find out! Reighhard is a master storyteller who takes the threads of well known and loved tales and reweaves them into an alternate fairytale reality. These storytelling threads are seamlessly and intricately stitched together to create a brilliant visual picture with words for the discerning pleasure of the reader. The ending had me guessing. I don’t know what Reighard has in mind for Quinn’s story. All I know is that everything isn’t what it seems. I love these Artowyn Tales!

Note:
Bellarose II is a prequel to Jasper and is best best read between Gerard and Jasper as the author intended.

I was very much looking forward to getting back into this series! There are some fun times to be had with how the author writes her books. They are like reading older fairytales which I do enjoy.

This book has multiple point-of-views and it works well since the characters aren’t always in the same place. I liked learning about Jasper who was one of the newest characters to be added. He is smug and definitely knows what he wants. I also liked learning more about Bella and Gerard. They are on different paths but it is nice to see how they are doing.

I do like how the author takes stories/characters we already know and makes them over with a new background and personality. It’s fun to see how creative she can be with the process.

Since the book is on the shorter side the plot does move quickly. Sometimes I wish that there was more time for setting development as I felt it lacked a bit where as in the first book it felt like there was a tad bit more to go off of. I also felt that the ending could have been drawn out a bit but I understand why it went in that direction.

There are still a lot of plot lines open and I am curious what the next book will bring.

This continuation of Bella's fairy tale blew my mind away. In the first book, she gets magically swept into the story she's reading, and now it seems she's trapped there!

In this book, she is kidnapped by a pirate, Jasper and embarks on a riveting sea adventure. This book retells the stories of Peter Pan and the Little Mermaid as well as intertwining other beloved fairytales.

There are mermaids, handsome but insufferable pirates, kidnapping, magic spells/curses, an enchantress, shipwrecks, and Princess Bride easter eggs.

I love Bellarose. She's sweet, kind, smart, and strong. And the main male character, Jasper (reminiscent of Captain Hook), finds his own redemption along the way, which is something I always love to see in stories.

This book is "clean" in that there is no explicit sexual scenes or foul language, but the author still managed to convey the lewdness of piracy. It was well done.

I received this book as an ARC, and as a sequel this was so good! Again, Carla has a way of writing these fairytale retellings with such originality and it really reminded me why I love fairytales so much!

There's so much to this story but it never felt overwhelming, I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I can't wait to read the third book!

This is a unique retelling of Peter Pan and the little mermaid with a twist. It is my favorite book in this series. I loved Captain Jasper, who represents Captain Hook. His back story is so sad and I really wanted him to have his happy ever after. I love the theme of redemption that runs through this series.

Carlas books always make me think of old fables.
There's always a lesson in them.
I loved the twist and surprises I wasn't expecting. I like that she explains why people act the way they do. I don't want to give to much away. Highly recommend for anyone who loves classic fairytales with a twist.
