This is a good story with interesting characters. It could be a great story. Unfortunately, it sounds like it was written by someone who writes technical manuals for a living. There are typographical errors scattered throughout the book, especially around quotation marks where spurious spaces abound. I care about the characters. The story works. I felt that even the battle scenes, which were relatively well done, were dry and lifeless. The book felt like one long info dump. When you write your next book, take the time to tell the reader what it feels like to pull a cobra maneuver. Talk about the g forces threatening to rip the wings off the aircraft and how that feels to the pilot crazy enough to use the tactic. Fill it out. The last scene, the most pivotal scene in the entire book, is cold. There is no passion, no anger, no emotion. These pilots are not robots. Play it out. Edit this to correct the typos and release the amended version. If you want an example of how it is supposed to be done, read the Honor Harrington series by David Weber or any of John Ringo's works. This is a good start, but it needs help.
This Is More a Story About a Pilot Than a Story About Flying
Sorry, but the writing in this book leaves a lot to be desired. It’s stilted, short in intensity, sometimes poorly worded (or edited), the subject matter frequently jumps around, and a lot of a previous sentence is simply repeated shortly thereafter. (Which is a ridiculous way to write a story!) This comes out almost as if this book were written for (or by) a child, and is annoying for an adult Reader.
As The Reader gets further and further into the book, it becomes kind of obvious this tale is one long, drawn out story about the principle character’s morals … one example after another, for a guy who’s lived quite a life, with extreme ups-and-downs.
Overall recommendation — Don’t take the time to read this book; use your time and energy on something else of better value.
There is a real good story here, but the delivery is atrocious! There are so many typos, syntax errors, repetitiveness, all combined with a writing style that comes across more like a documentary than a thriller. The author needs an ARC group of proof readers and a good editor to polish this work into the 'Best Seller' that it could be. As it stands, I had a hard time just getting to the end.
This would have made a great short story. The middle 2/3 is a waste of time as the grounded pilot whines, whines, and whines again about the delayed medical clearance (never given) from his real combat injuries. The real USAF (I'm a Vet) would have medically discharged him by page 30.
A great read but could use better proofing. As one who reads a lot and does proofing, errors distract me. Otherwise a great story. I especially like stories set in places close to home.
This story, written by Ed Benjamin, is a rollercoaster of emotions. Following the story of Harry, an Orphan who joins the air force and is assigned to the war against Irani forces. At the edge of death, after losing consciousness in the middle of a battle against the Irani leader Mar, he swears revenge for the death of his wingman.
What I liked the most about this book is the different stages Harry goes through. Situations that, in my opinion, many people experience when they´re sent to war. The scars, vices, and difficult situations they are forced to overcome are so clear that I am convinced war is clearly not the solution.
Redemption, a beautifully written story that keeps the reader interested until the end!
The author of “Redemption,” Ed Benjamin, worked in the US Air Force, and his experience stands him in good stead for this novel about a young man who has hit rock bottom before entering the United States Air Force. Not that this is the only crisis protagonist Harry faces – he is confronted with a host of challenges including a near-death experience. The plot is complex but fast paced – a typical “page turner.” It’s definitely a good choice for fans of fast-paced thrillers with a relatively plain use of language. I was a bit annoyed by some formatting issues at first, especially the extremely large gaps before and after apostrophes – I found it visually broke the otherwise fast pace of the novel. All in all, a good action novel though.
Readers who choose Redemption by Ed Benjamin will find a gripping narrative, emotions, and endless action in this fascinating book. I am sure that thriller adepts will be mesmerised by Harry’s story, an orphan who raises to be one of the most skilled fighter pilots in the US air force, only to be grounded after a major combat with an Iranian pilot. He will have to reinvent himself to find redemption. Most of the time reading this, I was on pins and needles as it gets quite intense at every turn of the page. The combination of action and the moments in which the book is focused on the protagonist’s problems and pains are very well integrated and described. I enjoyed this book a lot! I highly recommend it.
"Redemption" is a military thriller written by Ed Benjamin, in which the reader is not only immersed in a fictional story, but also learns a lot about aviation.
Harry is one of the best fighter pilots in the United States, but in combat he suffers a near-death experience. After several tests and waiting for the results of his medical evaluations, he was reassigned. Will Harry lose his piloting career?
First of all, I want to say that I found it to be a very compelling fiction. Although I haven't read many books on aviation, I found this very interesting and clear. The chapters are relatively short, which makes the reader hook on the reading. I look forward to reading more about this author.
“Redemption” is a really interesting and really compelling novel, with good detailed settings. This story focuses on Harry, an adolescent orphan who joins to the Air Force and after some years he becomes a fighter pilot. He’s going through a rough patch and several things are going wrong in his life. The plot itself is developed around all the issues he faced. As regards the military aspects, they seem accurate without becoming unnecessarily complex. This point made the book quickly and fast-paced. However, I’ve to admit that the author is a bit repetitive in specific moments. All in all, I’ll give it a four star-recommendation as I really enjoyed the reading and I totally recommend it.
This book is for people who enjoy reading emotional novels like this story from Ed Benjamin. Redemption is the story of Harry, a fighter pilot, who, after a battle in Iran and Iraq, lost his career as a pilot and his life changed by 180 grades. Reading the book, I felt very touched because I could feel the desperation and sadness of the protagonist when he tried desperately to change his life. It is a sentimental and sad story with multiple changes during its development. The story makes you feel overwhelmed and hopeful at the same time. If you enjoy this kind of literature, I recommend this book to you. You will like it.
Harry loses not one family, but two before graduating high-school. Feeling alone and cut off from the rest on the world he joins the Air Force. He thinks of his fellow fighter pilots as his new family, so when he is medically grounded it feels to him he’s lost yet another family. His unique way of understanding the action around him is also useful in figuring out mysteries. Can he find redemption and purpose as a detective or analysts? The story occasionally follows his nemesis, so we know these two will eventually meet again. There is mystery and suspense. I enjoyed the story. But I did find it bit repetitive. The reader is given the same information several times.
Harry is a hot shot F-15-Eagle Driver. He and his wingman are patrolling the Iran/Iraq border when his wingman is shot down unprovoked by a flight of MiG-27’s. Harry is left to fight for his life on his own until a backup will show up. As the fight Progresses Harry blacks out. After this episode The US Air Force removes Harry from flight status. Harry ultimately is separated from service. Then the story turns to Harry finding his way in the civilian world. The question is, will Harry ever fly his beloved Eagle again?
Best Military Action-Packed Tale of Aviation/People!
Regardless of my former USAF time and current FAA aviation credentials, I would have voted this one of the best action-packed, people sensitive novels ever written!
Ed has the ability to weave a story that is engaging, accurate and entertaining. His characters are well drawn and three dimensional in that the reader feels personally involved. I highly recommend Redemption to anyone who has an interest in the Air Force, flying and mystery.
" This book has it all: super-authentic flying segments, a story of someone dealing with great loss, and an engaging detective story. The way it ends leaves you looking for a sequel!"
