Jentezen Franklin (born July 21, 1962) is the senior pastor of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia and Free Chapel OC (Orange County) in Irvine, California. Franklin is the author of New York Times best sellers, Right People, Right Place, Right Plan and Fasting. His ministry extends internationally through the televised broadcast, Kingdom Connection, which is seen on television networks such as TBN and The Church Channel
"Jesus told us that when the last days come, we will see terrible things come on the earth. We will see wars and rumors of wars and all kinds of natural disasters like we are seeing now. But He said that instead of fearing the world's dilemmas, that is the time to look up because your redemption is very near. These world problems are just signs for us to look up and to see the Word of the Lord coming to pass." (Jentezen Franklin, Fear Fighters)
The author relates how fear is not rational and based on fact. He says that researchers have found that 40 percent of the things we worry about never happen, 30 percent are in the past and can't be helped, and that 12 percent of our worries involves the affairs of others and do not even involve us. He says, 10 percent of our worry relates to sickness, real or imagined, and that only 8 percent of the things we worry about are ever likely to happen. The author teaches that satan is a master at worry and fear and that his tactic is to get you to worry about things that are not going to happen.
Practically speaking he says that there are things we can do to overcome worry and fear, one of them is to limit the amount of news that we watch. He says, "Don't listen to ABC, NBC, and 'Woe Is Me' networks. They only create a culture of fear, making much ado about nothing. God does not want you to live in chronic fear because of what the media promote, often to sell their products." So, what do we do then? Focus on the Word of God to defeat fear, worry and anxiety. We can turn to the Truth of the Word of God which will keep us from giving into the enemy's lies. Putting up the shield of faith in the Word of God to extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked. Also, confess what the Word of God says, rather than what the world says, and cut off the head of fear with the Sword of the Spirit.
I think the greatest thing I learned in this book is that you require to overcome fear so that you can help others overcome fear; that your family, friends and others need you to be victorious in this area, so you can help deliver them from their own fears. He says, "You have to remember that you get delivered to bring deliverance to others! God wants to pour His life and power through you. He will use you to become a shadow on location to rescue your family, friends, and other precious lives from destruction."
Some topics on fear that this book covers are: fear of not having enough, fear of failure, fear of people, fear of eternity. The author endeavors to arm the people with strategies, skills and techniques for being a warrior, rather than a worrier!
I like the way Jentezen Franklin writes. It's very down-to-earth and conversational, not at all over my head. Yet in his anecdotes and colloquialisms lies some very deep theology. Franklin supports his assertions with scripture references, and illustrates his scripture references with stories. The material for his book comes largely from his own sermons so it stands to reason that it's a very conversational style of writing.
God has told us in His word that we are not to fear. The phrase "fear not" appears 365 times in the Bible, and Franklin uses each of the examples in scripture where they apply in modern, real-life situations. Finances, work, love, life in general - all covered by Franklin's search of the scriptures. For anyone who feels at times crippled by fear, Fear Fighters is an excellent reference and a positive message of hope.
I love Jentezen Franklin. We carried our youth group to Winterfest 2012 and he was the keynote speaker. I have several of his books and every one hits a home run.
