265 books1,832 followersI don’t know about you, but when I check out an author's bio, it’s usually because I’ve read a book I liked and wondered about the person behind it. Let's skip the formal bio and I'll give you the inside scoop on who Roxanne St. Claire really is.
First of all, call me Rocki. Everyone does. Evidently, when my mother brought me home from the hospital I seemed too scrawny and small to pull off “Roxanne” (she’d read Cyrano de Bergerac while pregnant or I would have been Judy) so they called me Rocki.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of five (overachievers, every one), and fell in love with words and stories the summer I read Gone With The Wind. That year, for my twelfth birthday, my parents gave me a typewriter (with italic font – it was the coolest thing) and from that day on, I’ve had my fingers on a keyboard, pounding out love stories for fun. My AP English teacher taught me the two most important lessons an aspiring author ever needs: 1) verbs are the key to life and 2) a writer should get a real job. After attending UCLA and graduating with a degree in communications, I tried acting and television broadcasting. Oh, they aren’t real jobs? I learned that the hard way. I changed my last name from Zink to St. Claire because a news producer told me Roxanne Zink had too many harsh consonants for a TV personality – apparently Katie Couric didn’t get the memo. I got some fun gigs, and even met Tom Hanks when I did a guest appearance on Bosom Buddies. I liked on camera work, but wasn’t too crazy about starvation, so I moved to Boston and got that “real” job. In fact, I placed my foot on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder and didn’t look down until I’d climbed all the way up to the level of Senior Vice President at the world’s largest public relations firm. On the way up, I met the man of my dreams in an elevator. Two years later – in the same elevator! – he asked me to marry him and I wisely said yes.
I stayed in PR, moved to Miami, had a few babies, lost my home in a hurricane, built another one a few hours north and all along, I kept writing my “stories” for fun. One night, I read a particularly fabulous romance novel that changed my life for good. That night, I decided I wanted to make someone else feel as whole and happy as that author made me feel. (Everyone asks! It was Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.) With two small children and one big “real” job, writing my first novel wasn’t easy, but I did finish a manuscript that managed to get the attention of a literary agent. She told me to do one thing and one thing fast: write another book. (The first one is usually a “learner” book, honestly.) That second manuscript sold to Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books and was released in 2003 as Tropical Getaway. Since then, I’ve written almost thirty more, in multiple genres, and long ago replaced the corporate ladder with the rollercoaster of publishing as a full-time novelist. Finally, writing is my real job.
Today, I live in a small beach community in Florida with my husband and two dogs. Our kids are off to college and law school, which means my nest is empty! I spend my time writing, working with the kids at my church, enjoying my husband's gourmet cooking, and hanging with my many writer friends. Of course, I love to read. I’m still crazy about words and stories and hope to write at least a hundred books in my lifetime. And, yes, verbs are the key to life. My favorites? Love. Work. Believe.

For some time now, former Marine sniper Wade Cordell has accepted consulting assignments from Lucy Sharpe and now she wants him to join Bullet Catchers. To help him decide, she throws him an "easy" assignment in St. Kitts. The effort to contact "vacationing" Vanessa Porter and bring her to Charleston, South Carolina turns out to be anything but easy.
Wade makes this story with his deceptively easy Southern style that masks some seriously deadly skills. His instincts are exceptional and the job would have possibly gone a lot better without the brash and strident Vanessa interfering. You have to admire her work skills where she competes and wins against Wall Street capitalists but subtlety isn't even in her vocabulary, which was in high demand as she was trying to find her friend and colleague, Clive Easterbrook. She and Wade might have located him sooner if she'd just. stopped. talking!!!!
Despite her frustrating behavior, Vanessa and Wade ended up being a pretty good team, her yin to his yang. The search for Clive took a sinister turn that made the story very exciting. It was difficult to figure out exactly what was going on, made murkier by a motley bunch of characters in these Leeward Islands. The continuing story arc involving imprisoned Eileen Stafford was always in the background, helping to make this a good and suspenseful story.
I liked how this story developed even with Vanessa's clumsy moments and am looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy within the series. We're guaranteed more Lucy Sharpe time, too, enough for us to get more insight about this mysterious leader of Bullet Catchers.

Bullet Catcher Wade Cordell has been sent to the Caribbean to track down a woman who was adopted at birth. Her birth mother is in prison for murder and needs a bone marrow transplant. There is reason to believe she was set up and didn't commit the murder in which she was convicted. Vanessa Porter knows who her mother is and has no plans to help her. She's too busy anyway. Her best friend, Clive Easterbrook, has left his job and is hiding in the islands. She wants to bring him back to New York but can't find him. Vanessa makes a deal with Wade...if he helps her find Clive, she'll return to South Carolina with him. But someone wants to stop her from finding Clive, someone who will kill to stop her.
This is the second book in the Sapphire Trail babies mini-trilogy which is part of the Bullet Catchers series. We have two plots in this book. The first is finding out where Clive is and what exactly he is hiding from. The other overall plot of the trilogy is who killed Wanda Sloane and set up Eileen Stafford to take the fall. I liked this book better than the last one, but there was still something off about it that I couldn't put my finger on. Maybe it was the pacing. I'm hoping the third book will bring a good conclusion to the mini-series. My rating: 4 Stars.

Book Two of the Then You ... trilogy is really a great mystery/suspense that has you guessing right up to the end. The romance between prickly Vanessa and easy going Wade is a study in getting below the surface that a person presents and a very hot one too. This is a great book with many twists and turns and an ending that is rather surprising.
Wade has been asked by the Bullet Catchers to fly to the Caribbean to find Vanessa Porter and bring her to South Carolina to see if she is a bone marrow match for the mother who gave her and her two twin sisters up and is now dying in a prison of cancer. Eileen didn't do the crime, but was set up by a very powerful person.
Vanessa Porter is on a cruise in the Caribbean in search of her missing friend, Clive. Vanessa feels that Clive is in real danger and hiding so well that both Vanessa is have trouble finding him. Then You Hide is the 5th book in the series and continues the search for the three sisters that were sold as babies to reunite them with their birthmother, which started in the previous book, #4 First You Run.
Bullet Catcher Wade Cordell is assigned to finding the second sister, Vanessa Porter, the successful NYC workaholic, who is on her own mission in the Caribbean to find her missing BFF, Clive someone or other who also happens to work with her.
Lots of things happen to the two on the Caribbean islands.....bad guys shooting at them, killers on the loose, twists and turns and some unexpected surprises.
Despite the exotic settings and the suspense and action, this was not as good as some of the others in the series.
One of the problems I had with this story was the heroine. She drove me absolutely up the wall...for someone who is supposedly super- smart - she does some pretty stupid things......
Of course her life is saved time and time again by the hero, sexy southern man Wade. Let me say, that I found him very sweet and sexy........but somehow I couldn't feel the chemistry between these two..........their sex scenes together were just...lukewarm.
So, in conclusion:
the romance....weak
the plot/suspense/mystery/action...good
locations/settings.... fabulous
characters.....hero... good....heroine...... okay....secondary character...Vanessa's travelling companion...the Jewish mama was totally.... fabulous!!!
pacing.... a bit too slow at times

Wonderful book in the Bullet Catcher Series...This is part two of a trilogy (subset) WITHIN the Bullet Catcher Series you could, essentially, start with this Trilogy:
1. First You Run
2. Then You Hide
3. Now You Die (Sep 2008)
Starting on page 252 of this book there is a brief mention of the previous Bullet Cather's and other characters from previous books--all gathered around for a meeting. FYI
Great suspense, romance, and twists to the plot that were surprising to This Reader. Well written, some funny dialogue that had me laughing out loud. The two main characters, Wade (William Wade) Cordell and Vanessa Porter were polar opposites. She was a fast paced, smart mouthed, Wall Street, New Yorker and he was a Southern charmer who didn't appreciate her personality (or language). I laughed when she told him ladies could vote now, own property and even cuss. I laughed when she ordered a drink and he asked the bartender to "hold the lime 'cause the lady is tart enough." (with a wink).

3.5. This book is the second in a trilogy, but really one of many in the Bullet Catchers series. Then You Hide is about Wade and Vanessa.
I thought this book was pretty good, but fell a step short of being really good. Wade takes and assignment from Lucy, head of the BC, to find the second or three sisters that were sold in a black market baby operation. Their mother is in jail for a murder she might not have committed and is dying of leukemia. Jack (a fired BC) is looking for the sisters to find out if their bone marrow is compatible with their mom’s.
Wade was the highlight of this book. He is all southern comfort and yumminess. He likes his women to be real ladies that he can “make love” to. He is a former Marine sniper and clam, cool and collected. Vanessa is the reason this book did not get a 4. She is not very easy to like. She never listens and jumps into every situation without thought. She was just a little over the top for me. I did not think she was worthy of Wade and his help.
Wade is looking for Vanessa to take back for testing and Vanessa is looking for a friend. Wade agrees to help Vanessa if she eventually goes back with him. He gives her 3 days to find her friend and then they have to go back. What follows is a frantic search for Vanessa’s friend in which she just annoys me. Eventually they find him and go back to find out she is a match for her mom’s bone marrow transplant.
The next BC story should be real good though. Then You Die looks like it will be about Lucy and Jack. From what we learn in this story, they have a bit of history, but Jack is pretty much hated in the BC organization because of something he did in the past. It comes out in Sept and I can’t wait!

This was my first book by Roxanne St. Claire. I was going to give the book 2.5 stars, but I'm giving it three stars, because I like the hero, Wade. He's a good Southern guy. A bullet catcher,ex-marine (I wished that he was more of a bad boy though). He was hired to find Vanessa - a Wall Street employee, because her mother -a woman who she doesn't really know, due to her giving Vanessa away on a black market, needs her help. He goes to the Islands to find this woman and when he does, he learns that she's searching for a homosexual friend/coworkers of hers named Clive, who suffers from deep depressions.
I wished that the book was more focus on Wade and Vanessa and a romance, but it's not. It's mostly focus on Vanessa trying to find Clive, who's in trouble, etc.
I've found the "love connection" to be weak. It was as if Wade and Vanessa were just thrown together. I didn't see any spark. Wade didn't even like Vanessa at first sight. To him, she wasn't his type.
I hated that Vanessa had a nasty mouth - she likes to cuss.Even Wade noticed that. I don't like that in a heroine or hero, but more in a heroine.
Maybe this wasn't the right book to start with in this series, but it's my only book by Mrs. St. Claire.

I've read a number of "romantic suspense" stories before. Maybe I picked badly because they always seemed 98% suspense and 2% romance. The two books I've read of Roxanne St. Claire's are far more evenly balanced and, for my money, much more enjoyable. I have the next book of her bullet chaser series on deck to read next, and I'm sure it will just as good. (These Bullet Chasers are pretty hot, hunky guys.)

A 4.5 stars for Wade and Vanessa's story. Wasn't sure at first that this bk would evolve into a believalbe couple but RSC pulls it together with fine suspense. This series has an equal amoutn of good suspense, action and romance.

I liked this a whole lot more than all the other Bullet Catchers but I could not give it more than the 3-star "I liked it" rating because of the plot weakness.
The person responsible for Eileen Stafford's predicament is supposed to be someone so powerful he "can do anything" to quote Eileen. Yet thirty years later, the circumstances haven't changed in that Eileen is still afraid of this person just as this person is afraid Eileen will spill secrets? I don't buy this - she accepted the deal to go plead guilty for murder and went to prison. If this all-powerful person is so afraid of Eileen spilling the beans (about who he is etc)he could have had her killed in prison. Yet here she is, 30 years later, in hospital needed a marrow transplant and the heroine, her daughter, is in serious danger because Mr All-Powerful is still after them?
I found it all really implausible but having said that, Bullet Catcher No. 7 is a fast, exhilarating read. Vanessa and Wade are a good match though, at the start, I felt Vanessa was too hard and snarky for Wade who, though he kills, is a warm, gentlemanly charming guy even if he's killed people in his line of work.
Not having followed the series closely (it's missing something I can't quite define), I got a little confused when it says here it's Book 7 but on Amazon it's Book 5 of the the Bullet Catchers. A reviewer explained it: Now you Hide is Book 5 of the Bullet Catchers but Book 2 of a trilogy (First You Run being the first of the trilogy). I'm not sure if this clears it up for me since the trilogy are also Bullet Catcher stories.
If I'm wrong about that glaring hole, I'd be most happy to ber corrected because despite the general weakness I've found in the series, I like this type of RS. They're easy to read, formulaic, with no unpleasant surprises and I buy them the minute they hit the shelves.

"Then You Hide" is the second book in the trilogy within the "Bullet Catchers" series (or book number five overall). And man oh man, this one is difficult to review. Overall, this story was much more intriguing and exciting than "First You Run". Really fantastic. However, the thing that kept me from loving it was the female lead. In the last book, I had a hard time with the male lead...But Roxanne St. Claire had me really liking him and rooting for him by the end of the story. That is not the case with "TYH", unfortunately. Vanessa (who's described as "spirited" and "sassy" on the back cover) comes off as abrasive, tough and just plain unlikeable to me...especially when teamed up with a sweet and sexy gentleman like Wade. It was even hard for me to muster any enthusiasm when they went to bed together. I kept wishing a "nice" (and deserving) woman would come along and steal Wade's heart. And even though Vanessa softened at the end, it was too little, too late. Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to the conclusion in "Now You Die".
Three-and-a-half stars...Five stars for the storyline but only two stars for character likability (Vanessa's fault) and romance (because Wade deserved better).

Fast paced and exciting - definitely one of the best in the series.
Vanessa initially comes across as hard and abrasive but it quickly becomes clear that she is loyal to a fault and her cool facade is really a defense mechanism concealing her fear of being hurt and losing someone she loves. Wade is simply gorgeous with his soft, sweet, sexy southern drawl that just makes you melt. He is dead set against liking Vanessa but she gets under his skin and he cannot help falling for her. They have excellent chemistry and rather than an immediate and unrealistic infatuation (as in the previous installment), Vanessa and Wade's relationship grows and develops into a believable emotional and physical bond.
The suspense plot centers on locating Vanessa's colleague who seems to have gotten himself into a bind and includes several interesting twists and turns as well as a surprise at the end that is virtually impossible to see coming. The secondary storyline about the search for the daughters of a woman wrongfully convicted of murder continues and the compelling developments make me eager to read the next book. Looks like Lucy Sharpe and Jack Culver will have to come to terms with their relationship in order to find a killer. Should be good.

I read it this book because many reviews compare this author to Suzanne Brockmann and the story to 'Romancing the Stone'. While I can see the similarities, both Brockmann and Romancing are the real deal while this author and story is just a good, but second rate version. Its a fun, light suspense novel with good guys and bad guys. The fun was trying to figure out who is good and who is bad. The story twists and takes you to interesting place, so I thought it was pretty good. The romance was weak and clunky though, and I never did like the heroine Vanessa. She pulls some small TSTLs in the beginning of the book, which always peaves me as the heroine is suppose to be a super smart woman with great instincts, yet she walks smack into danger several times like a total dunce. (Why do authors do this?!!) She gets better as the story continues, but I could never see how these two fell in love. The few sex scenes were a good attempt at 'hot', but I wouldn't read this author if all I wanted was a spicy read. The suspense story was the best part. Not sure if I'll read more by this author, as my to-be-read pile is already huge. I guess if the reviews are good enough I might.

Then You Hide is the fifth book in the series and is a continuation of the story started in the fourth book First You Run. Vanessa Porter doesn’t know that she has sisters and doesn’t want anything to do with her birth mother. Wade Cordell is sent to convince Vanessa to help save her birth mother’s life. But Vanessa has her own problems…like trying to find her best friend Clive who is missing…now they all are in danger. Can Wade help her find Clive and convince Vanessa to meet her sister and possibly save her birth mother?
I love Roxanne St Claire’s Bullet Catcher series. How can you not with heart-stopping action and sizzling romance? Add in the dynamics of Lucy Sharpe and her Bullet Catcher organization and you’ve got a hit.

Well, I've done it again and started reading a whole series out of order. Fortunately each story stands on its own, so I'm not too confused about the characters. This installment was Wade and Vanessa's tale of adventure in the Caribbean. Fun and exciting stuff. I wasn't real impressed with Vanessa, she seemed a bit cold and stiff to me, but Wade's warm and sexy Southern charm more than made up for it. We also get teasing hints of a relationship between Jack and Juicy Lucy, the genius behind the Bullet Catchers. This is another winner for me.

Vanessa Porter is searching for her friend Clive, who is currently hiding on a tropical island. Little does Vanessa know that Clive has a lot more problems that a case of the blues.
Overall the book had a pretty good plot. It was a little slow at times. I liked Wade; Vanessa kind of annoyed me at times though.

This is my least favorite book in the Bullet Catcher series so far. I found it a bit boring and slow paced, and although I liked sexy, sweet, southern boy Bullet Catcher Wade Cordell, the heroine Vanessa Porter drove me nuts. This has been the only blah read for me so far in the series, so I’ll definitely still continue on and read the next book. 3 stars.

ในอีกด้านหนึ่ง คดีของเอเลนก็คืบหน้าไปเรื่อย ๆ นักสืบที่ตามหาข้อมูลเพื่อแก้คดีให้กับเอเลนเริ่มค้นพบกลไกของผู้มีอิทธิพล ที่ยัดความผิดให้เอเลน และตอนนี้คนคนนั้นก็กำลังทำทุกอย่างเพื่อหยุดยั้งความจริง

This is the second book in the trilogy about the missing triplets girls who were given away in a black market home for unwed mothers. You don't need to have read all the previous Bullet Catcher books, but should read First You Run, before this one.
Eileen Stafford had an affair with her married boss, a powerful judge in Charleston, SC in 1978. She became pregnant but as an unwed mother gave birth to the girls at a farm and gave them up so they would have a better life than she could give them, but she had each of them tattooed at the base of their hairlines so in the future she might be able to identify them. Eight months she was set up for the murder of another woman and was threaten if she did not plead guilty that her little girl would die.
Thirty years later, she is dying form leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. In the previous book, PI Jack Carter, ex Bullet Catcher, enlisted the help of his friend, to find one of the women, but she is not a match.
This book begins with the owner of Bullet Catchers, Lucy, trying to convince ex-CIA Wade Cardell, to become a employee and not just a contract worker. She offers him a "cushy" assignment in the tropics to find one of the other triplets, but she is no interested in meeting her birth mother and busy trying to find her friend who has gone missing. Wade agrees to help her find her friend if afterwards she will come and meet her mother and sister. The cushy assignment turns into more than he bargained for. Danger, intrigue, death threats, a gun battle... Very exciting. And I have already started reading the next book.

I skipped a lot to finish the book. Vanessa was so unreal. She didn't like the fact that during war Wade had to kill. She was thinking of him as a murderer until of thanking him for his service.
This book rushed through what was going on with her mother but too much time on her friend Clive problem.

WOW! I’m surprised to find so much blood in this one. Not all of it bad. So much time spent wandering when they came right back to where they started! Not a laugh a minute, but lots of heartfelt love.

Erster Satz: "Wen haben wir denn da? Ist das nicht die hübscheste Verdächtige von ganz Charleston County?"
Auch im fünften Bullet Catcher Band dreht sich alles um Eileen Stafford und ihre Drillingsmädchen. Nachdem Adrien Fletcher eine ihrer Töchter, Miranda Lang, im letzten Band ausfindig gemacht hat, diese jedoch für eine Knochenmarkspende nicht infrage kommt, beauftragt Lucy Wade damit Mirandas Schwester, Vanessa Porter, aufzusuchen und sie ins Gefängniss zu ihrer leiblichen Mutter zu bringen. Ein einfacher Auftrag in der Karibik der Wade dazu bringen soll endlich ganz bei den Bullet Catcher einzusteigen. Wie gesagt, eigentlich. Denn der Auftrag entpuppt sich als alles andere als einfach und als sehr gefährlich. Vanessa Porter sucht ihren Freund und Kollegen Clive, der scheinbar spurlos auf den karibischen Inseln verschwunden ist. Vanessa macht sich Sorgen um ihn, denn er rutscht leicht in eine Depression ab wenn er seine Medikamte nicht nimmt und außerdem sieht es Clive nicht ähnlich einfach zu verschwinden ohne sich melden, noch dazu wo es seit 5 Jahren sein erster Urlaub ist.
Also bucht Vanessa eine Kreuzfahrt auf dem selben Schiff auf dem auch Clive in See gestochen ist und verfolgt seine Spur. Dabei stößt sie auf einen schwulen Bordelbesitzer der etwas zu wissen scheint, ihr jedoch mit vorgehaltener Pistole klar macht, das sie ihre Suche lieber aufgeben sollte. Wie der Zufall es will, trifft sie genau in diesem Moment Wade, der mit seinem Auftrag auch nicht lange hinter dem Berg hält. Vanessa ist alles andere als begeistert davon das man sie aufgespürt hat um ihr Knochenmark zu untersuchen. Sie weiß schon lange das sie adoptiert ist und auch das ihre Mutter seit 30 Jahren wegen Mordes im Gefängnis sitzt. Schnell macht sie Wade klar das sie kein Interesse daran hat diese Frau kennenzulernen oder ihr zu helfen, doch schließlich vereinbaren die beiden einen Deal. Wade hilft ihr Clive zu finden, im Gegenzug dazu würde Vanessa mit ihm zu ihrer Mutter gehen. Zusammen machen die beiden sich auf die Suche und finden immer weitere Ungereimtheiten. Es dauert nicht lange bis ihnen klar wird, das Clive in irgendeine krumme Sache verstrickt ist und jemand fest entschlossen scheint sie und Wade auf eine falsche Spur zu bringen, mit allen Mitteln.
Vanessa gehört zu der Art Frauen, die mir leider nicht wirklich sympathisch sind. Zwar hat sich das im Laufe der Geschichte gebessert, aber so wirklich sympathisch wurde sie mir bis zum Schluss nicht. Das macht es natürlich besonders schwierig mit Freude dabei zu sein, aber die Geschichte war so spannend und Wade ein richtiger Charmeur, das es mir gar nicht schwer fiel den beiden bei ihrer Suche zuzusehen. Die Liebesgeschichte zwischen den beiden entwickelt sich langsam, wie in allen Bullet Catcher Büchern, auch wenn Wade und Vanessa gezwungenermaßen ziemlich schnell gemeinsam in der Kiste landen, wenn auch nur um ihren Verfolger im dunkeln zu lassen. Die beiden lernen sich also schon am Anfang des Buches ziemlich intim kennen, was die weitere Geschehnisse umso interessanter macht.
Der Plot um Clive ist wirklich sehr spannend. Vanessa und Wade gehen von einer Insel zur nächsten, klappern Bars und Hotels ab und kommen dabei in mehr als nur eine gefährliche und brenzlige Situation. Bis zum Schluss hin tappen sie jedoch im Dnkeln was wirklich vorgeht und das macht die Sache noch mitreißnender. Man ist genauso ahnungslos wie die Protoganisten, die wenigen Seiten aus Clives Sicht sorgen nur noch für mehr Verwirrung als für Aufklärung.

Ein Bullet Catcher Band wie er sein sollte, spannend und mitreißend. Einzig mit der Protoganistin wurde ich bis zum Schluss nicht richtig warm, was der Geschichte aber keinen abbruch tat.
Auch im fünften Bullet Catcher Band dreht sich alles um Eileen Stafford und ihre Drillingsmädchen. Nachdem Adrien Fletcher eine ihrer Töchter, Miranda Lang, im letzten Band ausfindig gemacht hat, diese jedoch für eine Knochenmarkspende nicht infrage kommt, beauftragt Lucy Wade damit Mirandas Schwester, Vanessa Porter, aufzusuchen und sie ins Gefängniss zu ihrer leiblichen Mutter zu bringen. Ein einfacher Auftrag in der Karibik der Wade dazu bringen soll endlich ganz bei den Bullet Catcher einzusteigen. Wie gesagt, eigentlich. Denn der Auftrag entpuppt sich als alles andere als einfach und als sehr gefährlich. Vanessa Porter sucht ihren Freund und Kollegen Clive, der scheinbar spurlos auf den karibischen Inseln verschwunden ist. Vanessa macht sich Sorgen um ihn, denn er rutscht leicht in eine Depression ab wenn er seine Medikamte nicht nimmt und außerdem sieht es Clive nicht ähnlich einfach zu verschwinden ohne sich melden, noch dazu wo es seit 5 Jahren sein erster Urlaub ist.
Also bucht Vanessa eine Kreuzfahrt auf dem selben Schiff auf dem auch Clive in See gestochen ist und verfolgt seine Spur. Dabei stößt sie auf einen schwulen Bordelbesitzer der etwas zu wissen scheint, ihr jedoch mit vorgehaltener Pistole klar macht, das sie ihre Suche lieber aufgeben sollte. Wie der Zufall es will, trifft sie genau in diesem Moment Wade, der mit seinem Auftrag auch nicht lange hinter dem Berg hält. Vanessa ist alles andere als begeistert davon das man sie aufgespürt hat um ihr Knochenmark zu untersuchen. Sie weiß schon lange das sie adoptiert ist und auch das ihre Mutter seit 30 Jahren wegen Mordes im Gefängnis sitzt. Schnell macht sie Wade klar das sie kein Interesse daran hat diese Frau kennenzulernen oder ihr zu helfen, doch schließlich vereinbaren die beiden einen Deal. Wade hilft ihr Clive zu finden, im Gegenzug dazu würde Vanessa mit ihm zu ihrer Mutter gehen. Zusammen machen die beiden sich auf die Suche und finden immer weitere Ungereimtheiten. Es dauert nicht lange bis ihnen klar wird, das Clive in irgendeine krumme Sache verstrickt ist und jemand fest entschlossen scheint sie und Wade auf eine falsche Spur zu bringen, mit allen Mitteln.
Vanessa gehört zu der Art Frauen, die mir leider nicht wirklich sympathisch sind. The second in the trilogy (but book five in the Bullet Catchers series). We now know that Eileen had triplets which she gave up for adoption. Miranda is not a match for Eileen so the hunt is on for the other two daughters.
Lucy wants former sniper Wade to join Bullet Catchers and offers him a dream assignment. Track down a blonde (Miranda's sister) in the Caribbean.
Unfortunately, Vanessa is a potty-mouthed, Wall Street Fund Manager trying to track down her best friend who has gone AWOL on a Caribbean cruise – she doesn't understand the word no and is on a one-woman mission to find Clive. Clive is hiding from an unknown murderer with the help of a somewhat sinister man who says he is in love with Clive but wants to control him.
Vanessa is well aware who her mother is and has no interest in seeing her – or donating bone marrow to a woman who abandoned her as a baby. Especially because her father was killed shortly after visiting her in prison. Rightly or wrongly Vanessa blames her birth mother for his death (and she hates guns as a result).
So, Wade the soft-spoken southern gentleman who kills for a living and Vanessa the potty-mouthed woman who hates guns are thrown together. They make a pact, he will help her find Clive and in return she will meet her birth mother. But someone is sending Vanessa on a wild goose chase, and someone (maybe the same person) is trying to frighten or kill her – what was Clive into and why is someone trying to kill him and Vanessa?
This was probably my favourite in the series so far. Although Vanessa occasionally exhibited signs of being TSTL she managed to draw back from the brink (for me). Also, her tendency to rush in was totally explained by her 100 miles a minute attitude to everything.
Ms St Claire mixed it up a bit with the villains this time – although I thought the body count was a bit high considering (for once) that the culprit(s) weren't totally bonkers – I won't spoil it for you but there wasn't her usual two! Yeah, I know shocking.
We still don't know who the mysterious villain is who framed Eileen and has scared her so much that she daren't tell Jack his name … but all will revealed.
Oh, and I liked Vanessa (apart from her TSTL tendencies)- I liked her swearing.

Then You Hide by Roxanne St. Claire is the second in the “Bullet Catchers Trilogy.” Able to stand alone, you won’t want to put down this story of suspense, intrigue, murder and of course a fantastic love story. Once again Ms. St. Claire wows us with her prose, keeping us on the edge of our seats until we’ve turned the final page.
Wade Cordell isn’t really a Bullet Catcher – at least not yet. So far he has worked only contract jobs for them but now they want him to be a permanent part of the team. But Wade is just not sure that is what he wants to do with his life. While he’s making up his mind he takes an assignment that lands him in the Caribbean. It is supposed to be more vacation than work. It seemed simple, find Vanessa and bring her back to meet her birth mother. He finds out fast enough that this is no vacation.
Vanessa Porter is looking for her best friend. He disappeared a month earlier and her gut is telling her that something is definitely wrong. She takes a vacation from her high-powered job with a investment firm and tries to follow his path. The only friend she’s had in years she won’t stop searching for Clive until she finds him. Even if a hunk who qualifies as an “11” on her scale tries to stop her!
The sparks fly between these two from their first meeting and you’ll be as hot as the Caribbean sun while waiting for these two to finally get together. And boy when they do, I’m surprised the pages weren’t smokin’.
Ms. St. Claire has another winner here! The story is gripping and drags you through the beautiful Caribbean on a deadly chase and a race against time. I loved First You Run but Then You Hide blew me away. The story is excellent and the sex is scorching. Trust me you will want to take this book and hide so you can finish it in one sitting as I did. Excellent job Ms. St. Claire, I am waiting with bated breath for the next book in this dynamic trilogy.
