Sometimes you win, sometimes you burn. Betrayed by Adrian, I must flee Paris with Leslie Tate. Taking refuge in his Italian compound, his energy-sucking associates promise to help if I pledge myself to their cause. But what if they’re just as bad as the vampires? They’re certainly keeping dangerous secrets, and wanting to wield me as a weapon is one of many. With Queen Brisa’s venom burning hot in my veins and an army of vampires seeking to either turn me or end me, I have no choice but to accept their offer. Our mission? Kill all vampires, starting with the remaining royals. Should be easy now that the blood bonds are the weakest they’ve been in centuries, but my stupid heart is still hopelessly in love with Adrian. Screw my heart, Adrian already broke it. It's his turn to be stabbed in the back. Sink your teeth into the continuation of Eva's story by USA Today Bestselling author, Nina Walker. One click today!
I cannot tell you how much I have been foaming at the mouth to get my hands on this book since I finished reading the second book in this series. This series has completely captivated me. I devoured this book with grave intensity.
One of the things that got my attention straight away when I started this series was the impeccable writing skill. This book followed the same formula as the first two books in that regard. The writing style is so fluid and comfortable. I feel so at ease in the storytelling. I love how polished the writing is and down to earth at the same time. While this book certainly held my interest well, I didn't feel as compelled to read it as the first two books. I chalked it up to the fact that the two main characters were apart for much of the book and their chemistry really led the story in the first two books and kept things interesting. This book definitely had lots of revealing moments and there were also a lot of plot twists that I didn't see coming at all. I love the world-building in this series as well. The author does a fine job of showing the reader and enveloping the reader in the world.
There are so many revelations when it comes to the main characters in this book. There was a lot of growth, especially for Eva. She learns so many things about herself, her family, her friends, and even her life. So many shocking twists start to come to light and Eva really has a lot on her shoulders. I love seeing her navigate through all of these changes. She is a very compelling character that is very relatable. I also adore Adrian's character. I loved getting some of his POV in a few of the chapters. It really did shine a light on some of the things that he was feeling. He is a very complex character and he also has a lot on his shoulders. He is the perfect anti-hero for this story and I can't wait to see more of him in the next book. He is a character that spikes my curiosity. I am also loving the secondary characters in this series. There are a lot of new secondary characters introduced in this book and I am eager to see where things go. They certainly bring new dynamics to the fold.
Getting Adrian's POV chapters was awesome because we finally get to experience what he is feeling for Eva. He and Eva have such intense chemistry. Everything is stacked against them but you can't help but root for them. I loved seeing the small ways that Adrian expressed how much he cared about Eva. There is so much deception and unsaid words between them though. Eva feels betrayed twice over by Adrian and I am eager to see if their relationship can recover in the next book.
Overall, this was an exciting installment of the Vampires & Vices series. I have become so attached to these characters and I truly cannot wait to read the conclusion to their story. I love how creative and unpredictable this series is. If you are a fan of paranormal romance or urban fantasy then I highly recommend this series.
It's been a minute since a Vampires and Vices book and I forgot how much I liked this series. Nina has outdone herself with Wicked Sun. The third book finds Eva on the run after the catacombs incident and Adrian's betrayal, the vampires in chaos after Barisa's death, and things only get crazier from there.
Gods help Eva, the girl is a hopeless mess. Eva is still making bad decisions but at least she's gotten better at thinking things through. For someone who doesn't have a lot of power Eva manages not to get killed, that's saying something. Eva goes through a lot and is starting to realize that not everything is as black and white she once thought, that there is a lot of grey. Things get pretty dark for her and by the end, Eva isn't the same, she's gone through too much.
My wish has been granted and Adrian has more chapters this time around and he totally blew my mind. Adrian has revealed a whole new side of himself and I am delighted. In the previous books, I didn't really know where he stood, he was kinda a mystery but things are clearer, and dang it if I did fall for him, everyone loves a bad boy. He takes a lot of risks in this one and as usual, is always planning but this time he has a less evil vibe.
I loved Wicked Sun. The story went in a totally different direction than what I was expecting. What Leslie Tates is finally gets revealed and I am shocked. I mean of all things I didn't think that and it's still hard to believe. Eva gets a whole bunch of new information and I can't believe half of it, I mean, I'm talking jaw-droppers, it makes the story a lot more interesting. Mystery, betrayal, torture, family drama, murder, and a whole lot more, plus there are some mafia undertones. I can't get into details but Nina has done a fantastic job with Wicked Sun and the ending has left me with even more questions. Things ended in kind of a crap-chute so I can't wait to see where things go in the fourth book, True Death.
I really felt like Eva was able to take back the story in book 3. She’s definitely still lost in the supernatural world, but she’s trying to find her way through it as opposed to letting it drag her around. This story takes us on a whirlwind trip around part of Europe, each location fitting nicely with the magical characters that occupy it.
I liked getting more of a peak into Adrian’s head with his own chapters, but I found it hard to sympathize with his positions with the way the story is written for the cliffhanger ending. You can make me appreciate his position or you can have a very dramatic ending, but unfortunately, I didn’t feel like both really hit. But as was proven in Wicked Sun, I’m sure we’ll understand his motivations better in the next book.
Magic: 4/5
Wicked Sun kicks the magic up from vampires to supernaturals. I love the expanding supernatural world and can’t wait to figure out more about it.
Overall: 3.5/5
Eva’s chapters are so direct, fierce and fast paced. I fell quickly and easily into her POV and thought she developed a lot as a main character. With an expanding magical world to play in, I’m excited to see what she gets into in the next book.
I'll admit, those twists were freaking phenomenal! I didn't even guess them which is big for me. I loved that the villains aren't so cut and dry in this series, especially in this book. And the lines between love and hate are so thin, so blurred to the point of being non-existent--that it's pretty awesome to watch how it plays out between Eva and Adrian, Eva and her friends, The Vampires and Brisa...really, all the power dynamics get flipped upside down in this book and it has everyone grappling for a good handhold or two. And it's so interesting to get to see different versions of characters, and in some aspects, to see these characters peeling back layers of their carefully crafted masks and revealing their true selves/motives. All of it, is completely eye-opening to both Eva and the reader. Honestly, it was all very well done and this series just keeps getting more twistier as it goes along. Now, I'm so intrigued to see how Eva is going to flip the game back in her favor. Definitely looking forward to True Death!
I was really excited to get back into this story and to really see where it was going to go and boy does it take you on a journey. I love the growth we see Eva go through in this, to really see who she is and know that she is about to become epically bad az. It was cool too see a little more from Adrian as well and see more about what motivates him, I like there relationship together its still growing and wil be interesting to see what direction it goes it.
I did see some of the twists coming but boy is there a lot of those and a lot of information is given in this book, the world definitely expands a lot with this. Really hoping we don't have to wait too long for the next one because I'm ready to dive in!
The twists in this book remind me of the ones in her other series (co-written): New World Shifters! I have learned not to try and predict what I think will happen, but it happens anyway, and I'm usually wrong.
This series has been fun to read, and I'm so excited to see what's next for Eva. As each book has come out, Eva's character has changed, too, and we've also learned a lot about her.
I have really started to enjoy having books that have different character's POV throughout. I feel like you get to the know the characters a bit better. It usually ends up leading to something major.
Wicked Sun was an incredible addition to the Vampires and Vices series! Cruel Stakes may have actually ripped my heart out and left me with so many questions, but Wicked Sun did a phenomenal job in answering most, as well as healing my heart a smidge-ish. Eva's such a fascinating character, and watching her different developments unfold throughout this series has been a trip. The twists and turns had me dlipping pages as fast as my eyes could go, dying to see what happens next, and it looks like book 4 will be just as captivating!
O.M.G!!!... I can’t believe Eva is a... 😳 I didn’t expect that at all, also didn’t expect for Tate to be part of her... WTF!!! 🤯🤯 I read this book in one day, couldn’t put it down, the twists and turns kept me enthralled and the revelations, shocked!!! 😲 Now, I can’t wait for the next book to release, gaaahhhh, I need to know what will happen next!!! 😫 This series just keeps getting better and better, I'm totally in love with it!!! 💕
The last book ended with a big cliffhanger but this one was disappointing. There is more internal thoughts than actions, Eva is frustrating, she trust to be betrayed over and over again and every time she told us that she kept the lessons and nothing. She knows nothing about her , it’s revelation over revelation, and no action or anticipation. There is a lot thing wrong in this book😒 The end was not a good end for me.
So I have really enjoyed this series so far, and this one is no exception. I love Eva’s fierce, sassy attitude. The plot keeps evolving and I’m interested to see how things are going to end. I’m invested in the characters and what happens to them. I really can’t predict how this will all end and I’m glad for that. Great job. Ready for the next one.
Another amazing book by Nina! I was so eager to read this after the wait and it did not disappoint. For me it seemed a tad slow in the beginning but picked up and holy cow, was not expecting the twists that took place. At the end of the last one I was disappointed with Adrian and he redeemed himself in this one for me. It's a must read!
Eva's a what?! Of all my hunches I've had, that was nowhere on my radar! And her roller coaster relationships and new revelations kept me intrigued throughout the book. There's not a lot to say without giving spoilers. But if you liked book 2, this one will have you hooked too.
Talk about a story full of twists! I did not see some of this coming! 😱 This book was intense and I could not put it down. I love this series and I cannot wait for the next book!
And when does the Fourth Book come out!! I NEED it Already! If you are looking to read a Awesome Series I Highly Recommend this one! Nina Walker is such a Great Awesome Author! All her books are Awesome!
Loved the beginning and the end. The middle, I caught myself page flipping just trying to get to the next interesting bit. Not bad, but this feels like a connector book, setting up everything for book four.
Third book in this series is absolutely amazing and still going strong. Ms Walker truly has a talent for writing remarkable stories. I was hooked from beginning to end, looking forward to see how the series continues.
Most books slow down as the series goes on and can make it boring but this entire series is great so far. The ending was a twist I wasn’t expecting. Can’t wait to read the next book.
3.5 stars; Eva was really annoying for a lot of the book, so that brought down my rating cause there’s lots of internal dialogue and it started to drag
Eh, I wish that it had a better ending than what it had. It seems to me that the author just kept on pumping new traits into Eva, and introducing new species of characters solely for the sake of it. It went from some book with vampires, humans and a mysterious other creature to having the members of NSYNC, witches and Kevin Bacon. (NSYNC and Kevin Bacon were not actually in the novel, they are only used for exaggeration)
