This book is specifically written for new managers, (1) People who have just graduated with a degree in Management or perhaps any other degree, seeking a career in supervision or management. If that’s you, you may be headed into the management trainee program of some commercial, not-for-profit or government organization. (2) People already in the workforce (with or without any type of management or other formal degree) who have been laboring for some time in their jobs. Maybe you’ve finally been promoted to a supervisory or management position – or would like some help making this happen. (3) Entrepreneurs. This book consciously steers clear of most standard management-oriented topics such as, but not limited to, accounting or finance or marketing. On the other hand, it does contain plenty of information intended to acquaint new leader/managers – like you – with the unexpected, but constant, stream of difficult situations you absolutely will encounter, probably starting on day-one. Somehow, these difficult situations avoid being covered very well in most management curricula or other management texts. This book is intended to help you recognize, understand and handle them. The more you can quickly pick up and apply, the better off you’ll be over time. In any case, you’ll always be able to use this book as something like a portable mentor. Got a question? The answer is going to be pretty easy to find.
