Cute book about two very different girls, one prissy, one tom-boy, but they both like being friends. They do find they like some of the same things but mostly they have different opinions. But they still enjoy being friends with one another.
This is a fabulous book about being friends. The reader is shown - in lovely rhyme - how friends can be so different from one another and still be able to play together happily. Beautiful realistic illustrations full of fun.
This is a sweet story about two girls who recognize they are different and the same. Although they have differences, they realize they can still be friends.
Summary: “Being friends” is a story about two little girls who have different looks, contrary personalities, and like to do different things. However, they choose to accept those differences, grows up having fun with each other and being close friends.
Theme: The theme of this book is friendship and acceptance.
Personal Response: I really enjoy reading this book. It reminds me of the friendship between me and my friends. Even though we have different interests and lifestyles, we have always been good friends. It is not necessary to give up on being yourself in order to be friends with others. True friends can always find a common ground despite their many differences. I think this book brings a great lesson to teach children about building and keeping friendships, especially because of the diversity in the classroom.
Recommendation: I highly recommend this book for everyone, especially young readers. Parents and teachers can also use this book as a great example in teaching children about starting a friendship and learning about their friends.
Summary - Being friends is a sweet story about two very different girls. They are best friends but their interests, looks and personalities could not be more different. This story talks about all the ways these two girls are different but how much they love being friends. Theme - It’s okay to like different things and still be friends Rating - 5 out of 5 Personal Response - I loved this book! When I was little I remember vividly always trying to fit in and be like the girls I wanted as my friends. I would like things and do things that were not really me. I think this story shows children that it is okay to have different interests and still be friends! Why you recommend this book - I recommend this book because I think being confident in your own skin at an early age is very difficult. Children want to fit in and will change who they are in order to do that. This book reassures children that it’s okay to be yourself. It’s a reminder that you can have your own likes and interests and still be friends with someone who has different interests.
The book Being Friends by Karen Beaumont was a well written piece, as it was carried out through the style of a rhyme which made the sentences flow from one idea to the next. The illustrations were childlike as it portrayed how different the two friends truly were. This text brings to light how accepting children are of others differences when it comes to friends. Children have the right idea, different is not always bad, and it is a good idea to learn at a young age. Although difference is a very scary thing it makes the world go round. I enjoyed the book so much that when I become an Early Childhood Education Teacher I will introduce this book to them.
Beaumont, K. (2002). Being friends. New York : Dial Books for Young Readers.
It uses rhyming through out the whole book. I enjoyed reading this. It is the tale of two girls that are very different and like different things but still like being friends. They are almost complete opposites. One is more girly, and one likes sports etc. I rate this book5/5 because i really enjoyed reading it.
This is one of my favorite books to read to my students. It teaches a great lesson about friendship. I love how not only does it teach friendship but also shows that just because two people are very different doesn't mean that they can't be friends. I think that's a great lesson to teach children especially because of the diversity in the classroom.
This book is about two young girls who are best friends even though they are opposites in many ways. The book highlights how they learn to find common ground and find ways to do things together even if they like different things. This is a rhyming books so it offers phonological awareness as well as print motivation because it is a compelling story that young children can relate to.
The message here is great: the two little girls are as different as can be, but they are still best friends. This is important for all kids to understand, but especially for girls. This book shows that there is no one right way to be a little girl. Whatever you like or don't like, you can be a great friend and deserve to have great friends.
This book is an adorable book about two girls who could not be more different from one another but they seem to have such a great friendship with one another despite their differences. Great for the first week of school.
A sweet friendship book about how two friends can be different and have opposite interests but still be close. Story in rhyme: "I am me and you are you. I like red and you like blue." Illustrated with cheery and expressive watercolors.
Loved this Karen Beaumont. A story about two girls who seem like extreme opposites but appreciated each others differences enough to become good friends. A great lesson and a fun read, my 5 yr old loved it. Didn't really hold the attention of my preschoolers, but still a book we liked.
Very cute book about two friends who "love being friends" despite their many differences. Even though they play different games and have different interests, they still enjoy being together.
This was a little sing songy, but still might make a nice read aloud for either units on friendship, or as a writing model for kids doing a partner write.
