There, he is adopted and nurtured by Mama Emmaline, a woman who survived incarceration at the infamous Walls Unit in Huntsville, Texas, in the 1920s for killing her psychologically and sexually abusive husband. When a tragic loss at 18 leaves him grief stricken, he meets Sirillio, a Lipan Apache known also as Lee. After serving a 20-year stint with the U.S. Army Rangers, they retire. Billy Bob takes charge of the family conglomerate with Lee as his right-hand man. Billy Bob finds himself in a mysterious romance with Grace Bishop, a recent divorcee, and together they discover the remains of an alien race and the treasures they left behind for all humanity.
William Carey was an English Protestant missionary and Baptist minister, known as the "father of modern missions." Carey was one of the founders of the Baptist Missionary Society. As a missionary in the Danish colony, Serampore, India, he translated the Bible into Bengali, Sanskrit, and numerous other languages and dialects. He also has at least four colleges named after him, William Carey International University in Pasadena, California, Carey Theological College, Carey Baptist College, and William Carey University, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
