Spoiler Free Review
It’s time to dive back into the world of Lola Glass’s ruby shifters! You don’t need to have read the other books in this world to enjoy this trilogy, but it helps.
Ruby Wolf features Hazel Ellis, the daughter of Henley and Roman from the original trilogy. I love Hazel as a character. She embodies a lot of what Henley was. She’s tough and a good leader. Her love interest, Merrick Blake, is absolutely lovable. Not only is he another ruby shifter, but he’s a grizzly shifter, and he’s the leader of the bear shifters in Shifter City. I love him as a character–both through Hazel’s pov scenes and his own. He’s a leader, but he’s laid back, and he actually refers to himself as a beta. Because he’s so laid back and level-headed, he makes for a perfect leader. His bears respect him, not out of fear, but because he’s a good leader. I love this twist from the usual shifter romances, where the hero is so alpha and possessive. In this series, he’s protective of his true mate, Hazel, but he trusts her and stands by her decisions.
The only thing I didn’t really like about this book was that Hazel was so reluctant to mate with Merrick. She has only a week before her power starts to kill her - so she has to mate soon. He’s her “true mate”, so clearly destiny has pointed to him being the one for her. He’s also freaking adorable and perfect on every level. But she insists on interviewing the other ruby shifters, just in case. Shaking my head. That said, the interviews introduced some hilarious scenes - (Can I just say EW Mosquito shifter? Ewwww.)
4 stars, because I found Hazel’s reluctance to be with Merrick a little unrelatable and weird!

3.25 - Ruby Wolf is the 1st book in the Shifter City Series, a spin-off of the Wolfsbane Series. This is a quick look into Hazel Ellis (Roman and Henley's adult Ruby Wolf daughter) and her "True Mate" Blake Merrick, a Ruby Grizzly, in a previously unknown Shifter City. I had so many questions and very few answers regarding who and what is happening in the bigger picture, but it made me want the next book. I read Ruby Wolf as more of a Novella due to the main focus being on Hazel and Merrick, their True Mate bond and Hazel's deadline. I am looking forward to reading the next book for more of them and their world, especially getting to see Henley and Roman again.

3.5 ⭐️
This was such an addictive read and I finished it in one sitting! The focus being mainly on Hazel and Merrick and their situation suited the pacing of the events only being over a few days and Lola’s no BS writing style.
I adored Hazel and Merrick getting to know each other and thought that was really important to the story. It was exciting to be introduced to the different shifters we met and I’m keen for the next book!
The main dislike for me was the big ‘secret’ as I didn’t really understand how it was explained and the reaction to it being brought up was a bit too dramatic and abrupt, not really fitting with Hazel as a character based off what her inner monologues had already revealed.

I actually didn’t like this book very much. I didn’t care too much for the Ruby lore. I didn’t like Hazel much as a character, I didn’t like how Merrick would randomly call her Ellis. I though the whole Ruby mate aspect thing was weird. Meh, I just didn’t like it. That’s a bummer.

Good read
I was into the badass girl act and all. But Hazel was too much for Merrick and too much of a brat. I felt like she needed to do a lot of begging to him the way she treated him. I felt it was unfair and all about her feelings and what she wanted. The love in mating felt like he was her last resort. I finished the book but not interested in the next.

Ruby Wolf is the first in a new series and follows Henley and Roman's daughter Hazel. (So definitely read the Wolfsbane series first!) She's a ruby wolf too, and facing the same dilemma her mom did- she's running out of time to pick a mate. And as far as she knows, she's the only ruby wolf. Any potential mates would have to go through the Ruby trials just like her dad did. But Hazel doesn't want anyone to go through that for her, so she's traveling across the country in search of any other possible rubies. Lucky for her, she manages to find a whole city of them. And it turns out, there's more than just wolf shifters out there. Now everyone wants a chance with the ruby wolf alpha.
I really loved this one. Hazel is a boss babe who rides motorcycles and does MMA. She's not going to just let these other shifters walk all over her. I loved getting to see all the other shifters, and I'm excited to see the world expand even more. Merrick was awesome, and I like the way this story handled the fated mates trope. They weren't just automatically in love because they're True Mates and I appreciated that. They took the time to get to know each other, and Hazel even gave all the other guys a chance. I also enjoyed the politics of shifter city and I think there's a lot setting up the next book. I think there will be even more action and twists as we go on.
I really love the way Lola does shifter romance. It's so different than any other stories in the genre and I think hers are my favorite. It's such an interesting world with great dynamic characters. I always want more from it! If you're a fan of unique paranormal romance, love a good sassy MC and broody LI, and don't want an insta love or same old fated mates story, you really should check this one out!

I’ll jump straight in saying the reason this isn’t 5* is because I thought Hazel was a bit of a bitch throughout some of this, she knew eventually that her and Merrick were true mates yet she still wanted to interview other Ruby shifters.
This along with the fact she didn’t just straight up ask Merrick about the Ruby Heart but ran off with other Ruby shifters she clearly didn’t like or trust had me feeling like she wasn’t as level headed as we were made to believe throughout the book. She is pissed off he ‘lied’ to her but she hasn’t exactly told him the truth either about her life and wealth (not that he would give a damn about it). Double standards.
I hope we see her trusting Merrick more because he is adorable and I think he is perfect for her. Clearly there will be some fighting because she took a bear shifter over the other shifters which could lead to another war but hopefully she is going to prevent that.
I like how clearly Merrick states he isn’t an alpha type and is more a beta which means that he will be able to balance her out as a beta should.
I wonder how the wolves didn’t know about other shifter types and why they left originally, maybe we will find out in book 2 or 3.
This is a quick read and probably could be 2 books not 3 as they are relatively short books.
It’s a good series so far with a lot of different type of shifters which is nice. Interested to see if they save the city and get a HEA.

Hazel, Not A Normal Girl, Ellis is a Ruby Wolf who, when she isn't doing MMA and riding her motorcycle, is running away looking for a guy with pink hair. Luckily, she finds a whole town of pink haired men/various animals quite quickly. In a nice twist, she is an Alpha, and enjoys punching prospective mates rather than letting them just kiss her out of nowhere. There was a lot of fated mate stuff, but also the main guy had more conversations getting to know her, and actually talking about what they both were looking for in a relationship than your average book in the genre. Solid writing that makes you keep reading. I really enjoyed some of the unusual animals possible mates were; very different than some of the typical ones. I also thought it was fun all these guys had pink hair, no wonder they want to find a mate so that their hair tames down to red (ruby).

Ruby Wolf, book one in Lola Glass’s new Shifter City series, is a great example of the fated mates trope. The MC, Hazel, needs to find a mate…like pronto. And then she does. In a City full of potential mates, she finds the one Fate is telling her is the RIGHT one, but our stubborn leading lady isn’t just going to let the universe decide her life for her… so Hazel puts Merrick to the test and boy, is it HAWT as he’s trying to prove he’s the right shifter for her. *fans self*
I DEVOURED this spin-off series starter (Hazel is the next generation from the characters in the Wolfsbane trilogy) and loved both Hazel and Merrick’s characters so so much. The Bachelorette-like premise was a ton of fun and getting to have little cameos from the original trilogy of books was like icing on a delicious cake. I loved the mix of steamy romance and shifter history and politics and am VERY curious to see how things progress in book two.
I am a huge fan of Glass and find that she manages to give all her shifters both a perfect sense of the animal within and the a very layered human personality. If you like shifter romances her books are amazing reads.

Hazel is the daughter of the previous series’ couple and she is a very different heroine from her mom. Bold, confident, tough and smart, she dresses to attract attention and is on the run from her pink haired ruby destiny- to mate her friend or die.
The she runs into a whole bunch of pink haired Guys who shift into other things.
I liked it. It was quick paced and the heroine had a good voice. I’m not a big dual POV fan but Merrick was okay. For a moment I thought it might be a reverse harem but thankfully not! I did believe in their growing relationship and liked them together.
It doesn’t stand alone: if I hadn’t just read the previous books and remembered them well, I would have been lost. It also contradicts or at least ... opens up the world. Mosquito shifters, really? And griffin?
The misunderstanding and the plot turn were ... a bit fast and furious. I wasn’t really sure they worked through the issue.
But I liked it a lot and want book two. Maybe the pacing wasn’t too fast- maybe I just inhaled it! I really like this author.

Ruby Wolf is the first book in the Wolfsbane spin off series. Let start with how much I loved the Wolfsbane series and how interested I was in picking this one up.
Overall this book was good. It didn’t quite meet the highs of its predecessor for me but I enjoyed it all the same. I love how Lola Glass writes her protagonists. They are strong, independent women who don’t need a man and at times fight tooth and nail against them despite their feelings. Hazel is no different! I loved her independence, her sass and her overall goal in life.
I loved the idea of Shifter City and the way that Glass has introduced a whole range of new shifter types as well. I hope that there is a bit more information given in the next book about how the city and different clans operate.
The only downfall for me was the main conflict between love interests Hazel and Merrick was the old “miscommunication” trope. In an attempt to protect Hazel he left out a key bit of information because he felt “she didn’t need to know”. This trope is not my fave but I know others love it.

The pups from the Wolfsbane series are all grow-ed up that’s almost tragic Alpha of All pup, Hazel Ellis. There’s no male ruby wolf to mate her, though her best friend volunteers for the trials in hopes of being her mate. Depressed, Hazel takes a ride on her cycle and stops in Shifter City for a drink.
Hazel’s stunned by pink haired bear Merrick Blake’s question and statements. Semi-attracted to Merrick, Hazel confesses she’s a wolf but has no clue what a true mate is and she’s excited there are so many other ruby shifters to choose from. By morning, Hazel has more suitors but finds herself comparing them to Merrick.
Some of the shifters are only interested in Hazel since the wolves are the true rulers of the city and try to interfere with the true mate call. A dastardly scheme is afoot to separate Hazel and Merrick and Hazel falls into the trap but she’s convinced Merrick could’ve helped her avoid that if he’d been 100% honest with her about everything. Now he has to win her back.

It was…ok…. I guess. There were a few typos that were very annoying, most of which were punctuation issues, but what was really annoying was the MC and no one calling her out on her BS. At first, it was just a weird vibe I got from her but couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Then I realized it was because she was asking for so much from Merrick (love interest) without giving him the same things. I get she was in a tough situation and it was really confusing, which led to the contradictory thoughts she was always having (that happens in confusing situations). I just wish her friends would have called her out more to help with the tough situation.
I will admit at one point Noah did call her out, but that was before all the big stuff happened. So I was still annoyed. I just wished someone called her out about making the situation into a bigger one than what it should have been and then completely blaming Merrick for it.

Lovely with the second gen
I liked this. Hen and Roman were barely in it but I loved seeing them when I could. It’s a good thing they didn’t overtake Hazel’s spotlight and I loved that she had a unique voice from her mom’s. There’s always a few things that an author will stick to regardless of who’s talking (love for hands to the back) but otherwise I liked how it all flowed. It did get too much for me near the end cause with the way things were, I thought there’d be huge drama. But there wasn’t. And while I’m relieved, something still felt… slightly off. Only off in comparison to how amazing Wolfsbane’s first book was.
Merrick was adorable. A big bear, cuddly. Not intense unless provoked and otherwise chill. Loved his portrayal. This seemed shorter than Wolfsbane’s books, I think, because of how small the cast was in this case. We’re already introduced to characters with established relationships. You don’t get to see the building up.
On to the next installment!

Although this one is marketed as a spin-off series for the wolf bane trilogy (which I LOVED) you will have no problems reading this book entirely separate, if you haven’t read the original series. For me this book was slightly disappointing in its plot as well as its characters. The main focus of this book is really our main character finding her mate and discovering this new city. Her character I found really quite annoying towards the end she made such a big deal about finding a mate and made it so much harder for herself. I can understand her hesitancy but she dithers and faffs so much despite that she highlights regularly the need for urgency she never really takes that to heart! There is potential in the series for some of the more political stuff to develop I will be continuing on to see where it goes but does not compare to Lola Glass’ first trilogy at all.

Great Read
The Wolfsbane Trilogy is one of my favorite series i love love Henley & Roman so I decided to start this series that follows their daughter Hazel. I loved this book and Hazel is definitely her mothers daughter sassy and fearless in the exact same way.
When Hazel is born her other half was never born and she's left without a mate with the clock ticking she takes off to be on her own not wanting to burden her family.
Hazel stubles upon shifter city where every shifter is a ruby just like her and finds out that the ruby wolves once lived their too before they left. The Wolfsbane Trilogy is one of my favorite series i love love Henley & Roman so I decided to start this series that follows their daughter Hazel. I loved this book and Hazel is definitely her mothers daughter sassy and fearless in the exact same way.
When Hazel is born her other half was never born and she's left without a mate with the clock ticking she takes off to be on her own not wanting to burden her family.
Hazel stubles upon shifter city where every shifter is a ruby just like her and finds out that the ruby wolves once lived their too before they left. When she meets her True mate a bear shifter Hazel isn't ready to put all her eggs in one basket and decides to see what the city has to offer but what she finds is a city at war and on the verge of ruin.

If you have not read her Wolfsbane series yet, I would suggest reading that before starting this book. You will not regret it, and the books are amazing so you're welcome. It will give you context as to who Hazel's parents are and what the Ruby Wolf mating process entails.
That being said, I love this book. Hazel is a cool chick and I like Merrick's laid back nature. The introduction of new shifters is really cool and I can wait to see what's next in the series!
I wanted to end off saying Lola Glass is Gold. I have read all the books she has on amazon so far and they are amazing. This book is no different. You won't be disappointed!

I’m loving this series so far as much as I loved The Wolfsbane Series by Lola. Which is a lot. I loved that this is set in the same “world” and has some of the same characters from The Wolfsbane Series. I love Hazel as much as I love Henley. The author did a really great job of creating the main character realistically and created her to mirror so much of her parents. Also something I always say in my reviews for Lola’s books but its something I still stand by, Lola does a great job of creating these relationships to be realistic and relationships that goes through normal(ish) life things. She loves a good HEA BUT she makes the characters work for it and I love that. I cannot wait to finish this series.

First meeting the town
I think there is a series before this one (with the parents) but I struggled to like hazel I found she acted like a princess she treated her mate bad from the beginning he is her true mate she comes across childish and wants to date all the boys. Plus as for the lie grow up he never lied they only know each other a day she had secrets too and it wasn't him that lies about the ruby giving her more time because he knew it wouldnt. Her anger was misplaced, so like I sad poor guy was loyal to her and she treated him like her bitch.I would of liked him to meet her mum guess that's next book

This one was not for me. I really struggled to finish it. I absolutely loved Roman and Henley story so I was excited to read this one. I felt their daughter was portrayed well but her attitude of finding a mate and Merrick demeanor did not work for me. I love that Merrick was more of a country boy than a rich boy but I did not feel their connection and the animalistic licking was a bit much for me. I am not really invested in reading the next book but I hear it is better so I am sure I will at some point finish the series. I just do not feel the need to run out and get next book.

character issues
The overall writing was fine. However I didn’t enjoy the book.
The theme of the book is that a woman has to choose a mate in a short period of time or tragedy will happen. I didn’t love the relationship dynamics between the main two characters. The approach to relationships was very unhealthy. Even understanding the time constraints. Concepts like saying no when you mean yes, testing your partner by trying to press his buttons or start physical intimacy, and expecting honesty when lying. It was all a mess and made me uncomfortable.

great story, needs re-editing
I loved this story, this world and the characters in it. My only disappointment was there was lots of editing errors throughout the book. Normally it’s not a big deal, but there were a lot in this book. Things like feet instead of hands, unless when someone is sitting on your chest you can run your feet down there body and grip there a$$.
I love Lola Glass, and I’ll definitely continue to read the series. It’s unusual that I find these sorts of errors in her work.

Quickly climbing the ranks as one of my fav Lola Glass books! I absolutely loved Hazel (and Liz and their friendship!) and Merrik! I loved how it became its own thing and veered a little bit away from the regular set up — he gives no real alpha traits and that’s perfect for Hazel, Hazel has a living and healthy relationship with her parents which is unheard of in other Lola Glass books 😂, and she took him to the ground on meet one which I will forever love! Cute cute cute! Can’t wait to see more of them!

Pretty good
The storyline was interesting and entertaining. I was hoping this was going to be a one book continuation but there is at least one more to follow. I don't mind series but I find it much more fulfilling to read in just one book. But if you like Alpha females and sexy shifters with a will to fight for what they want and what they need to fight for, you will most likely enjoy this!
