My name is Hedi Peacock and I have a secret. I'm not human, and I have the pointy Fae ears and Were inner-bitch to prove it. As fairy tales go, my childhood was damn near perfect, all fur and magic until a werewolf killed my father and the Fae executed my mother. I've never forgiven either side. Especially Robson Trowbridge. He was a part-time werewolf, a full-time bastard, and the first and only boy I ever loved. That is, until he became the prime suspect in my father's death…
Today I'm a half-breed barista working at a fancy coffee house, living with my loopy Aunt Lou and a temperamental amulet named Merry, and wondering where in the world I'm going in life. A pretty normal existence, considering. But when a pack of Weres decides to kidnap my aunt and force me to steal another amulet, the only one who can help me is the last person I ever thought I'd turn to: Robson Trowbridge. And he's as annoyingly beautiful as I remember. That's the trouble with fate: Sometimes it barks. Other times it bites. And the rest of the time it just breaks your heart. Again…
I was born in Montreal, Quebec but now live in Southern Ontario with my husband. I’ve raised two kids, mothered three dogs, and herded a few cats. Other than that, my life was fairly routine until I hit the age of 50. Some women get tattoos. I decided to write a book. A little tardy, but then again, Mum always said I was a late bloomer.
So how old are you now? I’m not telling you.
Have you always written? No. I wrote about that here: http://leighevans.com/blog/for-perspi... That post is the first of many that charts my journey from the start of writing Hedi’s story to winning my agent, Deidre Knight, through the Speed-Dating-With-Deidre contest hosted on The Knight Agency blog.
Do you have plans for more? Indeed I do. St. Martin’s Press has contracted me for four books. I delighted to add that the UK has picked up on the Mystwalker series too!
Were you always so awesome? Sorry to disappoint, but I was the kid with the speech impediment in grade school and the wrong hem-length in high school. Let’s not even discuss college, where I discovered all the things that were cool and not so cool, and realized that I probably fell into the latter category. Truth be told, I doubt I’ll ever be awesome, but damn, I keep trying.
Seriously, how old are you? I’m still not telling you.
Is there a bottom line in life? Yes. Never give up. Ever. Even bad things eventually turn around. Take that from someone who’d all but farmed herself out into the pasture.
honestly, I have no idea what was happening majority of the time.. the Graphic Audio audiobook made it enough to listen to as background noise after accepting understanding what wash happening was pointless & it was easier to just go along for the ride.. I definitely would not have read the physical copy of this though. It's just too jumbled to be able to keep up with everything.
This was a fairly decent story with some romance elements, comedy, plenty of drama. The background music and sounds could get distracting at times. Voice actor performance was pretty decent.
DNF 75% After powering through those AWKWARD AF kissing and sex scenes I think I am traumatized and can't continue. I listened to the Graphic Audio versions of ACOTAR and Demon Days/Vampire Nights (both series have more explicit spice than this has) and they were no where near as awkward as whatever the voice actors and production team has going on here. This is chewing with your mouth open, saliva smackin ick.
Anywaaaays.... I also thought the story was a bit boring, and was suprised the the MCs got together so quick. Not to mention the weird vibe in the hotel and after with the mmc checking out the fmc, shoving her in the shower, calling her a teen prostitute, etc while guessing she's 17 and calling her a kid over and over again... just, yuck.
It's a little cheesy, predictable, and there isn't much build-up to things, but it's a fun listen. Perfect easy listen during errands and chores. The first was free on audible and it was good enough for me to purchase the next 👍
