Following the events of "Curious Consequences of a Curse" The Rilonck family is starting to find that with their freedom comes more enemies. Amidst the constant string of conflict they keep uncovering the truth that had been buried centuries before. The legend was nothing more than a fairtyale to hide the true reason for the curse that plagued their kingodm for 300 years. And when a sudden change is noticed in Dylah, they can't ignore the danger that looms over her. They must band together to keep history from repeating itself. But will love be enough, or are they doomed to be permanently cursed?
I really enjoyed Book One, and was heavily anticipating Book Two. Usually, I'm not a huge speed reader...BUT WOW. THIS BOOKS SUCKED ME IN. ITS HUGE AND I READ IT IN A MATTER OF DAYS. I was actually emotionally scared and concerned for the characters. I was IN PAIN with the characters. I was happy with them. I was in love with them. I wished I lived in this book to STOP TUESDAY SIMON FROM RUINING THEIR LIVES. *clears throat*
In Book One, I have to admit I really didn't like Keilon (Dylah's brother), but this book? This book made me LOVE him. I love him sooo much. It showed his affection and flaws in a whole new way. He's not perfect, but he's trying and he really loves Dylah. and *squeals* I love him too.
Dylah in this book? Amazing. Made me scream a few times, but WOW this Dylah was so complex and beautifully written. Despite her (literal) chaotic nature, we see how truly GOOD this woman is. Not like in a typical YA where with a bland "not like other girls whos super nice" character. NO. Dylah is so amazing and realistic, and UNIQUE. The way she relentless, determined, and a nightmare (;)) that treats everything like a joke, but has hidden fears and pain, is just SO WELL HANDLED and done in a way I have NEVER read before. Dylah is truly an amazing character. Wow.
Axen? I'm not one for "fictional crushes" (or crushes at all for that matter), but Axen? He's basically the perfect man, and NO not in a stereotypical boring way. He's complex JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, and has flaws and fears to overcome and a genuine personality. But you know what else? He's a FREAKING GENTLEMEN AND NOT AN OVER CONTROLLING ONE AND I LOVE IT. I've read too many YA books recently when they "finally get the girl", the love-interest turns into some controlling annoying human being I regret liking. Axen? No. Axen trusts and supports Dylah the whole way. He's never rash with her, and they're relationship is so healthy and beautiful. *SOBS*
READ THIS SERIES I SWEAR THE ENDING WILL HURT YOU.
Some content/trigger warning: The main characters are a married couple, so there are scenes where they are in bed together or kiss, but all done in a very clean manner. The violence is a step up from Book One, but again, tastefully handled. An adult "using" a teenager in the past
“Love is finding someone and seeing the wars they fight within themselves, and deciding that they should never fight those wars alone. Sometimes that means fighting their war on your own just so they don’t have to. It also means loving every aspect of the war they have and every ounce of fight they give against it.”
DYLAH! MY BEBE!!!!!!! oh I love this girl so much. She's fierce, hilarious, loving, and selfless. I don't want to give anything away because this book was a ride!!!!!
“We always come back to each other.” He smiled. “When we were kids, when the war started, in that lilac field, on that balcony, in this tunnel.”
AXEN!!!!!! MY LOVE!!!!😭😭😭
Maintaining a wild chaos that I think Dylah would approve of (and to avoid spoilers) I'll describe this book as woodsy vibes, snark and nicknames, family ties that warm my heart, political plots, chaotic souls, swoon worthy OTP, brilliant scheming, moments that will gut you, WEEPING AND SOBBING AND THE BREAKING OF MY SOUL, and reveals that will have you shouting/reveals that will have you cheering. I love this series so so much! Book two took a darker turn, but in the best way that was well-earned and rewarding to the reader. I will read anything this author puts out because oh my word, I love it so much. Now I need to go drink a coffee in toast to Dylah♡
Once again, Tuesday Simon does it. I thought the first book was a wild ride, wait until you read this one!
So much stuff happens in this book. It contains non-stop action, loving family relationships, a healthy and very adorable marriage, and a need to know what other adventures they're going to get up to. This book was an absolute JOY to read. It took me a while to get invested back into this world (probably because I knew I'd be freely hopping onto a rollercoaster.) But, I read the last ~70% in a day and a half.
The only slight issue I have is the lack of commas where I think there should be a pause. Some of the sentences blur together, resulting in me getting a lil confused. But then I would reread the sentence and it'd make perfect sense, so again, a miniscule thing that may just be a me thing.
I am always looking for a strong family bond in fantasy books, and if you are too...then do yourself a favor and start this superb series.
oh my goodness! I don't know where to start. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book. You think you can predict what is going to happen but then bam! a twist happens. It also has some tear jerking moments prior to the finally. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.
Book 1 in the Through the Tree Line series was wonderful. Book 2 took all that wonderfulness and crushed my heart at the same time it made it swell up! Tuesday is fantastic at creating a character driven story that, despite its length, draws you in and keeps you wanting to turn the pages. She weaved in the perfect bits of story for all the characters I wish I knew more about from book one and I adore them all (Axen and Keilon are the stars for me, but learning more about Dylah... she's such a badass, but also has feelings!) It is everything I knew it would be and the ending, I can't divulge much but get ready to feel everything. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!
When I first saw the size of the book I was immediately skeptical, I was worried I'd lose interest or get bored with it but I didn't. I loved seeing the characters relationships grow and seeing how they resolved the twists that were thrown their way. The second half of the book I was constantly fighting back tears and was overjoyed with how it ended.
