In this novel it talks about how Derek Jeter is throughout his life. It talks about his childhood (What schools he went to, where he lived, his family ext.) The core part of the book talks about how he got to the MLB and how he was when he played High school, College, and in The minor leagues when he was being scouted. Around the end talks about how he did in the MLB and his big mile stones. During this book it talks about Derek through his whole life leading to the MLB and is a very interesting book.

Derek Jeter was a little boy whose was born in 1974 main goal in life was to play for the Yankees. People always told him to give it up or it was impossible. But Derek stuck with it. He played baseball and basketball to increase his his athleticism and boost his self esteem. Derek would never come home without a 4.0 GPA. Derek kept playing baseball and was the best on his team not just in playing but he also had a good attitude. His father taught him respect when he was little. Derek did well in middle school, and wanted to practice more. He lived in Lancing, Michigan so he could not practice outside like other kids. so he convinced his parents to buy him an indoor batting machine. Derek then played in high school and wanted to try out for an elite program of the best players in the state for basketball. Everyone thought it was a bad idea because baseball was his sport and this team had some of the best basketball players in the state. Derek made it and then played extremely well in high school. He even got accepted into stanford for academics. The New York Yankees actually let him skip college and right into the minor leagues in 1994. All rookies get drafted but go to to single A baseball first. Derek struggled and the Yankees wondered if he could work his way out of the minors. He eventully got his batting averege from a 2.3 to a 3.17. He then moved to double A then the highest triple a in one year. Derek then moved to the yankees major league team. The owner hired a new coach and told him that if they did not win the world series they would be out. The new manager had faith in Derek so h put him in at shortstop. Derek on;y played a few games with this team before, when the original shortstop was hurt know he was their guy. They made it to the world series that year and another time in the next 2 years. Ever since then Derek ha led them to the playoffs every year and has become one of the highest payed players

I liked this book i gave it 4 stars. I liked this book because Derek Jeter was the best player in his town and when he got to the minor leagues he did terrible. He was not ready to play and he was the worst player. His teammates made crule jokes and he was ready to quit. He did not though his family was always there for him and he got back on his feet. This book taught me more on what family can do for you. I realize more that no matter what profession my parents want me to pursue, they will always support me. Like most sports biographies this book was good, because it explained things that I did not understand about baseball. This book made a baseball players life and career look like an adventure. It showed me that baseball is actually a hard working sport. I always thought it was a boring and easy sport. It also showed me that getting all A's does not mean you can not play sports at all. I always thought getting a 4.0 would take all my time away from track. But Derek managed to get all A's and find time to practice for the pros. Another thing I liked about this book was that Derek was not arrogant and h had stay calm most of his life. This is because he is half black and people used to call him names. I liked that even with no life losers picking on him, he was able to become a pro. One thing I do dislike about this is that it kept talking about him getting a love life soon and it even had a whole page and picture dedicated to when a woman dropped a note in Derek's hand during the game. I know this book was about Derek and his life but the author kept on talking about how handsome he is. As a boy I do not want to know about that stuff . Overall I really liked this book and suprizingly it was another book about adversity, like Drew Brees. But instead of getting an injury his injury was just that people did not seem him as an equal as a half black. Now he is one of the richest and best players in the game of baseball. This inspired me to know that it is not only Jamaicans who can sprint. I can stand up and sprint and make it to the olympics if I want
with practice of course.
