Kirsty is living her dream in the Austrian city of Salzburg working as a Sound of Music tour guide. She and Anton, the coach driver, are a good team until the day Mike Hayes, a surly young Englishman, takes the tour. Is Mike unhappy or just unfriendly? Kirsty wants to find out; but in doing so she is drawn into a mystery that means she must confront her romantic feelings both past and present.
A little gem of a novella, and great get-away-and-feel-good read. Beautifully written, it's so cleverly plotted that I kept changing my mind about the identity of the real hero. Lovely Salzburg setting, too, referencing The Sound of Music. Once started, I couldn't stop reading, and finished this in one enjoyable setting.
Kirsty really enjoys her job as a Sound of Music coach tour guide in the Austrian city of Salzburg, taking tourists and fans of the film on a trip around the city to see all the famous places were scenes were filmed in the city.
When a man called Mark Hayes oddly gets on the tour, several days in a row, Kirsty finds this strange and is curious to why he keeps doing this. She soon shows a helpful interest in Marks life and finds herself reflecting romantically on her own life too.
A delightful storyline, that as a touch of romance and a touch of mystery that draws you in and makes this a wonderful, warm read. I read this novella in one sitting and I loved the connection to the Sound of Music.
I downloaded this in the morning and read it in one sitting during the horrible, rainy afternoon. When I finished it I felt immensely cheered up. Favourite Things ticked all the boxes: romance, bit of suspense, glorious scenery, three heroes to choose from and a very knowledgeable writer who has clearly been to Salzburg. Thought I am not a Sound of Music fan per se, I nevertheless enjoyed this novella and will be keeping an eye out for any future novels the author makes available on Kindle.
