Taboo Duet #1

Unexpected

Rate this book
The first time I hear his voice, he's giving me really bad news. I wasn't close with my mom, but I never expected to have a stranger tell me she's dead. I don't have any idea what to do. She's in Vegas, I'm in Long Beach--I'm barely an adult, I don't know how to deal with this.

But he's calm, he's supportive, he helps me every step of the way.

He's also handsome. And charming. And so sexy. He's like the father I never had … and the lover I always wanted. The way we found each other is so Unexpected, but I can't help feeling like it was meant to be.

Unexpected is a taboo age gap romance (no age play). More taboo goodness in Book 2.

4 That Special Person Stars ⭐

It's grief that initially brings them together, but its the Unexpected connection that heals them with love. I have mixed feelings as I had anticipated a smutty read but was rewarded with a story full of emotions. I actually needed a moment to rethink my mindset to appreciate it.

Salvatore and Gianna couldn't be more disimilar. Where Salvatore is a 46 year old accomplished man, Gianna is a 20 year old student practically sleeping in her car. But with the death of her drug addicted mother, she somehow falls into the care of Salvatore.

"I wasn't broken. Well to be fair, I'm probably a little broken. Aren't we all? I just...I need something more."

Set against the Vegas backdrop and casino highlife, Salvatore is constantly working at keeping his demons at bay. Yet his nurturing persona won't allow him to turn his back on Gianna.

The months after you lose someone, you're not yourself. You can't be. Your heart and your mind are trying to reconcile the new you.

His help was meant to be temporary while they sorted out her mother's affairs. Except when your heart and libido is involved, all else becomes irrelevant. Especially for two people desperate for love and care and its right there in their grasp.

"I want a dirty Daddy and my handsome boyfriend. I want to be your little girl, and I want you to take me how you want me. And outside the bedroom, I want happiness."

Unexpected is a semi taboo read with a smidgen of daddy kink that helps crank the heat to delicious. Yet since It deals with drug dependency, loss and depression it gives this story a serious edge and depth.

I adored both characters individually and as a sexy couple. Sadly the Casino backstory was a little overkill since most of the time I felt impatient to get back to Salvatore and Gianna and their time together. But in this instance, the issue is me! 💜

ARC provided by author in exchange for my honest opinion.

Unexpected: A Taboo Age Gab Romance is a full-length novel written in a single POV with Salvador and Gianna POV. This is the second book I have read from this author, and what a difference in her writing; it has definitely evolved.

This book reminds me of old Vegas meets new Vegas, and I can hear Ol blue eyes himself, Frank Sinatra singing, “I did it my way.” I love the vibe of this book.

Gianna is a 20-year-old student in college who is basically homeless—estranged from her drug addict mother. She is a strong, independent, mature woman for her age. Like any authentic Italian woman says what’s on her mind.

Salvatore is everything I would love in an Italian man, forty-six, movie star features, caring, tall, wears his heart on his sleeve, and well accomplished in Vegas. I would love a boss like him.

Brought together by grief from Gianna’s mother's overdose, the two are now together temporarily to go over her mothers' services and belongings. There is an instant attraction between the two. They try and keep at bay, but the heart wants what the heart wants. It is beautiful reading their relationship evolve.

Gianna wasn’t beautiful. She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever fucking laid eyes on.

I excepted a dirty taboo book when I first started reading it; what I did find was something much more. A great slow burn of two well-developed characters that I couldn’t help but fall in love with. They are two people looking for love and mesh so well together. There is still a taboo factor and some daddy kink.

“Now, let me show you how much Daddy liked that”

For me, I love how the author gave us a different few of Vegas, the behind-the-scenes of the casino. There are some triggers, like drug dependency; it's emotional and raw. Side note, kudos to the author for using Italian names that are not used a million times over. I can't wait to see what is next.

I went into this looking for a quick smutty forbidden age gap read but instead got hit with an emotional, vulnerable and intimate slow burn read.

For someone who had a “platonic” marriage with the heroines mother he sure liked to mention how hard he got for her all the time and how she was such an attractive woman. So, you’re telling me a man who is very attracted to a woman, gets extremely drunk in Vegas with said woman, drunk enough to marry her, but has never had sex with said woman? Yeah fucking right, I don’t believe that in this life or the next.
I’ll tell you why he liked Gianna. He couldn’t have his love Angelina anymore because she was a piece of shit mother, so her daughter who is sober and looks just like her will do ✅
This might have been better if the hero had been able to acknowledge that Angelina was indeed a bitch, but he never did.

This is a fairly short, ~200 page, romance story. It’s a sweet book, with somewhat low angst and low stakes, and it’s a slow burn. Following Gianna’s mother’s death, she meets her mother’s boss and friend, Salvatore, and they fall in love. It’s revealed that he was briefly married to her mom, but it was because they lived in Vegas and apparently people often just get married there. Their relationship was purely platonic and they had it annulled within a week. It’s interesting that the first in the “Taboo” duet doesn’t particularly feel very taboo. I was hoping for stronger ‘forbidden love’ vibes. At least Gianna’s friend, Bryan with a Y, is very disapproving of their relationship! But of course, it’s for selfish reasons. All in all, a good book, and worth reading to get to the second book, which is really quite good.

I have only read one other book by this new to me author, and wanted to give her newest release a go. You know, since it’s age gap and all. And in the end, I was glad I did.

Gianna travels to Las Vegas after receiving word her mother has died. Once there, secrets are revealed and Gia must work through the grief and anger of losing her mother, all at such a young age. All while new feelings and desires surface for the man that may have knew her mother best in Las Vegas, Salvatore Rossi

The story was raw and emotional from start to finish. The author did a great job working through the gripping emotions and through the drug addiction that took Gia’s mother from her. What’s funny is I honestly thought a different outcome was going to present itself concerning another character but was pleasantly surprised to see it didn’t. Here I thought I figured a twist out that never even came to fruition. Jane got me there. I only wished the ending had went a little more than it did. But all in all, the storyline was great. Especially for those that are all about insta-love reads like me.

Like with Jane’s other book I read recently, there was some editing errors that easily could have been found with a keen eye. It wasn’t a huge distraction and for me it didn’t take away from the story, too much. But they were there and noticeable.

4.5 Stars!! (I round up to the next whole star when leaving reviews on sites such as Amazon and Goodreads)

Quick Summary
This is a forbidden age gap romance between Gianna and Salvatore (Tor).

When Gianna gets the call that her mom passed away, the dark male voice on the other line causes her stomach to flutter. He’s calm and sympathetic and genuinely seems to care about her when he offers to help her settle her mother’s things in Vegas.

She expected an older guy but nothing like Salvatore, in the flesh. The feelings he stirs in her are like nothing she’s ever felt before but Gianna is still processing her mother’s death, her own unresolved feelings of anger and guilt over an estranged mother and worried about where she’ll go from here, to pursue something with Tor.

But Tor sees the vulnerabilities that Gianna tries so hard to hide and it brings out his most primal protective instincts to the forefront. He finds it easy to offer her comfort and a shoulder to lean on but when he reveals that a drunken night of partying led to a quickie marriage and annulment to her mother, things get emotionally muddy.

🖤 ~ My Thoughts ~ 🖤
This story was part romance, part emotional healing. Giana and Salvatore were a slow burn couple that had a lot of emotional baggage to work through. It was at times really heated, then really sweet and then really sad. Both MCs were characters that have lost someone to drug addiction and their grief -and later- healing from that wound, brings them closer together.

Gianna and her mother have never been close, her mother’s drug addiction led to her leaving Gianna with her grandmother to raise when Gianna was only a kid. Giana has confusing feelings of relief, guilt and anger over her mom’s death that is discussed in depth.

She bonds with Salvatore over her mom when she comes to Las Vegas. Meeting Salvatore changes things for Gianna. For the first time, she has someone at her back, ready to defend her, care for her and offer emotional support, something she’s never had from anyone. He makes her feel loved and for the first time, like she genuinely belongs. But is she emotionally ready to start something with an older guy in a long distance relationship? And finding out about the brief marriage throws her for a loop! If she dated Tor, not only would she be with a much older guy, but also her ex-step father.

This story was a slow burn for sure! Tor and Gianna have to navigate a lot of emotional land mines to find their happily ever after. If you can get through the slow opening, the rest of the story is engaging and really makes you think. It touches on a lot of heavy topics that might be a trigger for some but I would recommend as it’s a second chance at life and learning to forgive and move on after a tragic loss.

Heat Level: 4/5

Swoon-worthy Moment:
The rooftop date! Salvatore definitely knows how to pull all the stops when he wants to make a night special for his girl.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy and this is my review.

Unexpected, Daisy Jane's newest release, was totally unexpected (see what I did there?) in all the best ways! Although labeled as a taboo, age gap romance, Gianna and Salvatore's journey goes much deeper than the standard due to all the obstacles (internal and external) they had to overcome. Daisy Jane gave Salvatore, aka Tor, such depth and vulnerability not often seen in an "alpha" hero. There is no doubt that Tor is in charge, but he's not afraid to admit when he needs help. Gianna's strength in her fragility just yanked at my heartstrings. I literally had tears in my eyes for the last third of the book.

I found Daisy Jane as an author less than a month ago and enthusiastically plowed through her backlist within a few days. I became a fan of her work and Unexpected simply confirms that she is definitely one to watch. Five star read! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Safety notes:
Virgin heroine
Celibate hero (went through a MW stage out of grief years prior)
No others after meeting
OM/OW hit on MCs but neither are interested
Triggers: addiction/overdose - side characters
HFN ending - no cliffhanger, follow up is possible

Expect the Unexpected

Daisy is the Queen of slow burn romance! She gets me every time!

Add to that she throws an age gap and a bit of a taboo vibe and I'm telling you, off the charts.

This story added in a Vegas backdrop which is also another personal favorite so I was sunk and sold! Lol

Gianna and Tor were so so hot, the chemistry was leaping off the page, and since it was a slow burn it really did feel soul deep.

Give this one a try, you're gonna love it!

Most certainly insta-love but a good dynamic between characters. I think the connection though with Tor and Angelina was a bit stretched. It didn't really fit other than to add the extra taboo aspect which could have just been handled with the ddlg. Clearly Tor was a protector and as Gianna wanted, someone to take care of her and be her home with a little twist of kink.

DNF. I really wanted to like this because of the age-gap trope but the writing made me snooze. I don't mind some inner monologues however there were so much of them as fillers during the dialogues that really disrupted the conversation; so frustrating. Ugh.

Really enjoyed!!

This is definitely a taboo and different read. I have to say I really enjoyed it though. It was a lot deeper than I thought it would be. The steam factor was so HOT. Wow!!!! I only wished I got a little more of their story to be honest bc I really liked this characters.

Very good romance story with a HEA. I felt the ending was a bit rushed. I would like to see a epilogue. It was my first casino character job,and I felt the author did a good job if explaining the workings of a casino. It was east to create the scenarios in my mind.

This was my first book by Daisy Jane and I definitely plan on reading more from her! Her taboo age gap romance was quite the ride for the characters. Salvatore, or Tor, and Gianna are steamy goodness in this book.

Gianna finds more than she expected when she travels to Las Vegas for her mother’s funeral. Over an overdose took her mother, Salvatore gets in touch with Gianna. Salvatore was married to her mother briefly in a drunken Vegas wedding. He was never a stepfather that she knew about, but that doesn’t stop Gia from liking the taboo of her attraction to him.

Tor wants to take care of Gia. No one ever has and she’s basically homeless, so he wants to be the man that steps up for her. These two together are super steamy. The scene where she wants to “watch” Tor in his room is very naughty. Check out their story and enjoy the steam these these two create.

I’m torn on what rating to give this one because I enjoyed certain elements of this story. Tor, for one, was such a pleasant change for an alpha—he was emotionally with it, he was in charge and took control but did so in a way that didn’t steamroll Gianna, and he was respectful of her in a way that we don’t often see in these alpha millionaire romances. The story took too long to get started, however; it felt like Tor and Gia didn’t meet for a long time and the beginning was unnecessarily long, and then when they did meet, it went from normal to instalove. I think I’m going to read the follow-up though because I did enjoy their dynamic and relationship and found this entertaining, it was just hard to get past the rushed relationship.

I also found the typos and grammatical errors distracting, but I know the author is an indie author so I’m not holding that against her, it just brought me out of the story every now and then.

I was excited to read this, I only had time for the first 15 or so pages and had to wait nearly a week before I was able to set aside the time to dive in. When I *did* dive in, it was head first and I couldn't put it down. There's something about immersion that is heightened when the fictional words of a seemingly unrealistic scenario feels very real.

Bryan with a Y is such a stereotypical friend-zone guy just hoping to make the leap into the *almost-zone*, while Tor's effortless charisma charms Gianna from their very first interaction.

Gianna's thoughts and desires are a combination of nervousness and excitement, the tension mounts as the reader eagerly anticipates the moment where they finally come together.

As the title suggests this book to me was totally unexpected. The reason is that the story is much more than an age related love story. There is much more angst relating to Tor and Gianna's histories. Two excellent characters with so much chemistry between them. This is a very descriptive book regarding Tor's job and life and Gianna's life. Both having lost people thet cared about but felt guilty and this was sympathetically thought through. A lovely romantic story and recommended.

good story

But I would have preferred a little more La Famiglia as is Italian tradition. Plus there was no mafia ties which was good for Gianna. She didn’t need that added baggage on top of what Angelina left her.
The daddy/daddy’s girl relationship is understandable and a necessity for these too. I support. Nosy neighbors and all.

I read this and "Consumed", back to back. They were my first romance and first taboo novels. Great storytelling and to be honest, they didn't feel "taboo", just two people really into one another. Daisy Jane can really set a mood, so beware where you read this. :)

Unexpected love

Salvatore and Gianna’s relationship is one of unexpected connections for sure. Gianna’s life has been hard, but she is wanting love and safety. Tor has an instant connection that pushes them to fight for their love.

Great writing, as usual for Daisy Jane. Great character build up, decent flow...
but it's about 3 chapters before the characters even meet, and it's a bit slow. Especially when it's Tor's pov. I honestly don't care that much about how Casino's work in Las Vegas. It seems like she did her research though, which I respect.
This is pretty much insta-love. They only know eachother for maybe 4 days before they say I love you...which is NOT enough to truly know someone. Ugh, I hate insta-love...sooo unrealistic. So not romantic because you truly don't know a person within a week!!!
BUT, they way they interact is sweet. There's mutual respect, there is most def chemistry. There's sexual tension that did not linger enough before they explored it. I wanted more of a slow burn. That's a me thing, I get it. Me not liking insta-love is very much a me thing, I'm aware of that.
But I really enjoy Daisy Jane's writing. If you like insta-love, this is a good pick for you. If you like good character development, another good pick. Steam? Yes, this has it for you. A bit of kink? The dd/lg aspect of this was well done and, not going to lie, kinda hot (truly not my kink, but this was well done).

Hot damn! I loved this book and it has to be one of my Top Five this year. The dynamic, the plot, the spice, and the emotion made this book so good that I read most of it, 93%, in one night. This follows Gianna whose been living in her car and gets a unexpected phone call by none other than the MMC, Tor. So, Gianna has been prepared to clean up the mess her mother left but, what she didn’t prepare for was the same man who gave her the news being the one to care for her. I haven’t read the second book in this duet and this book leaves off at a place where it isn’t needed, HEA. But, I am curious to see what happens when Gia’s actual father comes and her and Tor’s relationships stays strong.

This book contains taboo topics and topics NOT appropriate for younger demographics including but not limited to;

DD/LG
“Step-Father / Step-Daughter” Relationships
Explicit sexual encounters
Virgin FMC

**I really liked that this book had a low angst to it so, you could really just focus on the relationship and healing for the characters. :)

Slow moving story

Tor (age 46) is lonely and a successful businessman working the casino. His employee/ex-wife OD’s and he must tell her daughter.
Gia (age 20) is secure, smart and articulates her emotions well. She’s had to be this way growing up with an absentee and addict Mom. Her connection to Tor is instant as he helps her with her Mom’s funeral. She’s a virgin and this is the first real time she feels list for a man.

It’s more of a slow burn story where there is some intimacy halfway and a little after that. They dream and fantasize about being together more than they are together.

The beginning is a bit boring. The inner monologue of each seems to drag and is repititive: Bryan is just a friend, she’s too young.
I do like how direct Gia and Tor are with each other so there’s no games but two people trying to figure things out.

Boring and slow moving
~ The first 5 chapters/16% were basically a play by play of their day. I think it should have been condensed (a lot) because I found it rather boring.
~ I kept waiting for the book to get interesting but it never did. It was mainly inner dialogue for both main characters. It was so slow moving. 😕
~ Ugh, and how many times was the "comb" mentioned(that his dead sister gifted him on his birthday. Then OD'd the next day, four years ago). 🙄

~ The whole scene with her masturbating while on the phone with Tor. While the guy that had been pining after her was in the next bed over. Was just creepy and effed up.
~ I couldn't connect with a single character

rare kinky gem

So much of the erotica and kink or taboo subjects are formulaic. This story felt so real. How these relationship dynamics really happen between two adults. I genuinely think Tor’s job sounds awful and exploitative, but the writing was so compelling that I found myself curious about his work. These are well-rounded, flawed, but thoughtful people just making each other better and so happy. You just don’t see that much in this kind of niche erotica. If you are interested in how daddy kink happens in the real world, this is a must read. The sex is so hot and also sweet and meaningful. It’s a beautiful, memorable read.
