This book was a fever dream, and I'm not going to pretend that it was a particularly good one, but it certainly kept my attention. A self-destructive young man drowning in guilt meets the enigmatic, Cain, who has apparently been stalking him. They have lots of rough sex because it's healing or something, I don't know. Add in some soap opera level twists, and it's a wild ride.

I'm not sure if the book took itself too seriously or not seriously enough. The art was pretty though. The author mentions in her note at the end that she doesn't really care what happens to these characters after the story, as long as the lead, Shun, doesn't become neurotic. While I'd argue that Shun already is, I kind of love that this is the author's takeaway. So is it worth a read? I guess if you want something dark, messy, and ridiculous then sure. I'm kind of a sucker for these melodramatic old-school yaois, so I enjoyed it.

I love the art! But the story felt a little flat to me. Cain is super pushy, which is not surprising since he's famous, so that was okay enough. However, when he forces himself on Shun with him repeatedly saying no and essentially freaking out in his own mind... That is really not okay.

Their... relationship came out of nowhere. Well, it came to light from Cain's stalking abilities.

I felt for Shun. What awful parents. But I forgot how annoying the uke was often portrayed. (I guess they probably still are but no idea. Haven't read any new manga in a very long time.) Anyway, he made a lot of scenes and, for caring so much about Cain's reputation, you'd think he would calm down a bit.

This is pretty much an excuse for a bunch of smut. Very thin plot which is mostly unnecessary drama. Especially with Keiichi. Makes no sense. Also upset with that whole scenario.

Listen, I don't want to discuss what this book is about. It was not a good manga and I even don't really want to own up to having read it. It was an impulse buy on Mercari and I regret nothing. Guilty pleasure, 100%. I'm keeping this treasure forever.

This is definitely one for fans of hard yaoi. Shun is living in the shadow of his dead brother until Cain arrives to shake up his life. Yes, the story is pretty weak, even for yaoi. However, it has a lot fo explicit sex. So, it depends on your tastes. I was only hoping for a little smut to entertain me for a time, and this delivered. The artwork is clean and well done, and the text easy to read. Sadly this, like so many hard yaoi titles, is now out of print. However, it can still be purchased in e-format. It's worth a read as long as you don't have high expectations.

How can I root for a couple to get together and stay together when I think one of them is far too arrogant and mean, even aside from how he does things verging on non-con? If one character is saying "no, no, no" and the other character just becomes more forceful in response, I am not a happy camper. Stalking the uke prior to that does not make it any better. Also, is every shorter boy in Japan prone to loud, awkward, public, emotional outbursts?

And do we really need sub-soap opera plot twists and coincidences, let alone so many?

I've never read much Yaoi so this one was still a bit of a mystery to me. Still, the idea of gay x-rated comics was intriguing so I gave it a go. The story seemed weaker than I'd heard and I was never sure whether it was as disjointed as it felt or if perhaps I was just reading the panes in the wrong order...

Perhaps one can teach an old dog new tricks but that doesn't mean that the old dog will always enjoy it. I'm glad I read it but I doubt I'll be rushing out to find more.

Golden Cain was a surprisingly delicious read. Cain is the most slutty humanitarian you'll ever meet and I couldn't get enough of him. My only beef is that there are no sequels.
