I read the Pilot screenplay written by Elizabeth Craft & Sarah Fain for The CW but i'll just review it here since its the only one that shows up on goodreads.
basically this is the worst thing to happen ever, for some reason this pilot decided to adapted a deeply flawed book but instead of using the adaption the fix/improve said flaws it instead goes out of its way to make everything incredibly worse. America and Aspen were already insufferable in the book but at least they had some common sense all that goes out the window in order to make them even more generic and predictable 2013 YA leads (which they already were mind you) but once again, this pilot goes out of its way to make everything just so painfully WORSE. and while there are many many many more things I could continue to rant about, nothing is as terrible of an offense as what they did to Maxon, sweet kind loving Maxon from the book is turned into this horrible, sexist, irresponsable, sex-obsessed maniac for the purpose of.... reasons? and most of his good traits (aka virtually all of his personality) is giving to a younger brother they added for the show which makes literally no sense since a huge part of Maxon's story IS that he doesn't have siblings and all the responsability falls on him while a huge element in his mom's story is her having a hard time having children and only being able to have Maxon.
God do I hope the Netflix movie took 0 notes from this screenplay when adapting the book, and if they did, they hope they have the same takeaway as The CW and just NEVER MAKE THIS.
