Summer Davis is a poet and author. A lifetime of television and reading everything she could get her hands on lends to her multi-genre platform. Summer first began writing exciting new worlds and listening to the characters in her head at the age of twelve. When not in the writing cave, she can be found hiking, camping, drawing her favorite Korean drama characters, or spending time with her dog.
Minerva and Damon have known each other for decades. Each time at various ages, time periods, and as different people. Oh, did I mention that Damon is a body hopper. Every time that he dies, he is reincarnated into a different body.
This book is a joint effort by authors, Summer Davis and Kiley Muller. I thought the authors did a good job of writing this book as I could not tell where one stopped and the next one picked up or which was which voice. It was as if one author wrote the book. So for this factor, this is a plus in my book.
This is a very quick read. It is a story that you could get lost in if you are not giving it your attention. As it jumps a lot and quickly from time period to time period. In regards, to Minerva and Damon and their love for one another; I struggled a bit as Damon never really stayed in one body long enough for me to get see them interaction much. Therefore, I did not feel the strong connection they shared. It was not really until the last third of the story that I felt this love.
I might have been a bit too old for this story but I do believe that the new adult readers (18-25) is the target audience for this book. Still, I like this book and could see this book playing as a movie in my head.
Warning: There is a rape scene and self harm mentioned in this book.
I found this book on a tiktok comment and immediately wanted to read it. This book follows the relationship and lives of Minerva, a test subject for her “mother”, and Damon, a boy who has the power of mind control and rebirth. Damon rescues Minni from her “mother” and they basically run away together. However, Damon is forced to die and inhabit a new body fairly often causing major gaps. They would go days to years without knowing where the other is.
I feel that their relationship is very hot and cold. One minute they love each other and cannot imagine life without the other, then the next they argue and walk away. The miscommunication in this book got to be a little much. Second, the ages were hard to keep track of. Eventually it got easier but in the beginning, it was hard to tell how old everyone was. I also found it kind of disturbing how Damon, who was originally born in the 16th century, began to fall in love with Minni when she was 14ish.
I loved the idea behind this book and found the lives Damon was forced to live very interesting. I feel this book set up perfectly for if there was ever a second on in the future. I would love to see more of their relationship and watch them both grow. I would also like to see more of a conclusion to Minni’s past. I feel she never really faced it and would have loved to see her learn to stand up for herself more. Also, the authors included songs under each chapter which made reading it so much better :)
In the end, this book was fast paced and fun. There are deep topics, such as abuse, rape, and sexual assault, but overall it was a great book! Congrats to the authors!
Fast paced with short chapters! I want a book two because I need to know more of Minvera and Damon’s backstories because they are such interesting characters!
