I must be clear from the beginning. This is perhaps the most difficult review I have written. My choice of stars was difficult for this. I read Josie's first book a while back and I loved it. But this book was not my cup of tea...
This review is going to be hard to write but here goes nothing...
Jenna had a great life. Until a plane crash rocked her world. Jenna quickly realized that maybe people in her life can't really help her reassemble the broken pieces so she decided to move away and see where life takes her.
Joe feels something for Jenna the minute she walks into his diner. He can see the same pain in her eyes that he sees in his own. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make her smile again.
This was a bit painful to read if I'm being honest. The grief and loss were overwhelming at times and Jenna was just miserable throughout half of the book. I get it but still... Some of the emotions were way too strong for what they were.
I did not like a lot of the characters. I thought Tom was horrible and was romanticized in a way he did not deserve at all. Sorry, I just did not appreciate the author trying to romanticize him like that.
If not for Joe and Erin (her husband in a way too) I would not have finished reading this book. I loved Joe and Jenna's chemistry and their happy ending. I was glad Jenna turned her life around even though I did not like the way she went about doing the things she did.
Really, this book was not for me maybe... IDK 😅😅 It is not that it’s a bad book. It was a well written book. I really wanted to give it more stars but couldn't. Giving it 4 or 5 stars is saying I agree with all of this. And I definitely don’t!
The author does a great job of creating a story and emotions in this book. There was quite a bit I didn't love though. Some of the emotions were a little too strong for what they were and I didn't like a lot of the characters. I like how the book ended. I loved Joe and Jenna's relationship and their happy ending. I was glad Jenna turned her life around even if there were times I was upset about how she went about it. I'm glad I read this book even if it wasn't a favorite.
This was a tad painful to read. The grief and loss for what once was overshadowed what it became, which only led to more misery for Jenna until over halfway through this book. Jenna was clearly someone who has been manipulated by the person who should love and cherish her, yet I wanted to shake sense into her many times. Tom was vile, but his part of this story was romanticized in a way he didn’t deserve at all. Sean was questionable in his best moments and unrealistically unhinged in his worst. If not for Joe and Erin (and to an extent her husband), I’m not sure Jenna would ever find her way. Joe and Erin brought some much needed strength and friendship to what would have otherwise been a lonely life for Jenna.
Author numerous times referred to Patty as Cathy. Once in the same paragraph. Also had Joe and Jenna have sex outside but, later in the book she tells him it's been a long time for her and she isn't sure she is big enough to accommodate him. They already had sex. Last but not least, is there no sequel to see what has happened to Sean?
