SYLVIA, MY TYPEWRITER TRIED TO KILL ME- AND I LET IT. 'MASOCHISM' is the debut poetry collection by award-winning poet Justin Nazario. Featuring over 100 pages of narrative and autobiographical poetry, 'MASOCHISM' draws from Nazario's inspirations as both an artist and human being, with original photographs accompanying the words inscribed onto the page. In addition to photographs and original poetry, Nazario also describes the gut-wrench feeling of abandonment and nostalgia in two never before published short stories, including the Scholastic Art and Writing Regional Medal winner, "Titan." From destroyed to liberated, 'MASOCHISM' celebrates the brevity of a life spent in flux, navigating the darkness with your head down- until the final nail is broken, and all that's left is skin. **********CONTENT This book contains language and descriptions of sexual assault, physical violence, drug/ alcohol use, and more. It is recommended for readers 18 years or older.
Masochism embodied an inspiring yet heartbreaking tale. The writing has a way of opening a readers eyes to the things that occur in life, things that are not usually spoken about. Nazario speaks of his experience battling the unspoken tragedies of life, which are constantly looked down upon.
One of my favorite things about the book is how each poem provides a different sense of meaning to take away from it all. Nazario had a diligent way of wording everything, making the reader themself reflect on things in life.
This book is intended to share stories which many people many also experience, but may afraid to let out. I don’t read much poetry, but this one is a must. Survivors and anyone looking to delve into heart wrenching, raw, daunting yet needed poetry in this world should pick this up.
This book is absolutely amazing. From start to finish, Justin really gave a chance for his readers to experience his life through his eyes. This book is not for the light-hearted but for the survivors, for the people who can understand the hardships of life. Masochism is the most quintessential poetry book out on the market and it’s a book that readers will always remember.
