This is a nicely formatted cookbook. It starts with an introduction that explains they why and how of the diet, then recipes organized by meal - breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and desserts. No index, but a complete table of contents listing all recipes in the beginning. Each recipe has a short intro, prep time, cooking time, serving size, and most importantly nutrition information including calories, carbs, fat, protein, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus. Super helpful info for those who need it! There were beautiful, mouth-watering full color pictures for many of the recipes too.

This book focuses on recipes for kidney health, but contains a surprising variety of flavor profiles and a selection of recipes that would also work for individuals on special diets for diabetes or heart health. The ingredients were all common and easy to find and the instructions were clear and detailed enough to include the little secrets that make them turn out better. Lots of rich, flavorful options, you won't feel like you are missing out or on a restrictive diet with these options.

The banana pancakes were luscious - a little more work than my standard recipe but well worth it. French toast with apples and cranberries? yep, that one is a keeper too. The crunchy chicken wraps were a quick and delicious way to use up some left over chicken and great for taking to work. the savory roll bites were good, and quite different from other protein balls I've tried. The refined sugar free chocolate cake was delicious. I liked that the frosting was rich and smooth without being overly sweet.

The final reference section has links to websites from which many of the recipes were sourced and acts as another great resource as well. Overall, this is a great book for someone trying to get started with a renal diet.
