Jo strives to get back to normal after suffering a tragic loss. When a witch places a locator spell on her at school, she must choose between fighting a potential threat or befriending it. Are the true intentions of this witch good or evil? Becoming friends with this stranger could answer the questions burning in Jo’s mind about the possibilities of her magic. When she meets a new hunter’s guild, her freedom is threatened and her loved ones are in more danger than she anticipated. Will her new alliances fill the void in her heart or push her further to the dark side?
Jo is a very strong witch who has to learn to control both the darkness & light within her. I appreciated how the author shows us how important it is to have family & friends on your side. I was sad with a loss of a character in the last book, but the author did the situation justice and gave us a new character to love. I did feel the last couple of chapters were rushed, but overall it was a fun YA read! The author definitely grew as a writer throughout the series, and I've enjoyed all the books but this one was my favorite.
If you enjoy stories full of magic, love, loss and family bonds definitely check out the Hidden in Roll series!
Found in Roll is the third and final part of the Roll trilogy, and it's a great ending to a fabulous little YA series.
Jo is as spunky as she's always been, hanging out with her friend Mary, going to school, chatting about boys, and performing her magic. Being a witch isn't easy, and when a new girl moves to town who also seem able to wield magic, Jo sees her chance to gain her first witch best friend. This new girl also happens to have a super hot brother, which puts a spanner in the works in more ways than one.
But as always, not everything is all roses and sunshine. There is a reason for this new girl's, Astrid's, appearance. Dangerous hunters are on their tail, and Jo is dragged into the middle of it, forced to perform the most evil of magic to save those she loves.
Found in Roll is a sweet, fast-paced and clean YA read, but with a bit of romance and plenty of magic. I love the witty inner monologue from Jo and how authentic she feels to the age that she is. This book made me laugh and smile with her, as well as bite my nails when things took a turn for the worse later on.
For anyone in the mood for a clean YA Urban Fantasy, this one is for you!
Found in Roll is the third and last entry in the "...in Roll" series of books staring Jo Baker, the teen witch of Roll, Arizona. Suffering from a painful loss and involved in a "rebound" relationship, Jo befriends another witch and becomes close to her family. Her powers are becoming stronger, and soon she's deep into another dangerous battle of the series' struggle between witches and witch hunters.
Whitfield's own powers have grown considerably since the first book. Her writing is sharper, the storytelling more focussed than in the first two entries. Jo has always been an engaging character, and her growth here is fun to watch. The villains are truly repulsive; I know a book has me involved when I'm hating the antagonist. There was true suspense as it built toward the climax.
On the downside, I will say (without spoilers) that it ended a bit abruptly. But then, if a book leaves you wanting more, you can't be too hard on it.
If you need a little magic, then this is the story for you.
I was anticipating this book like crazy. I read the first two books and loved them even though part two left me a bit upset and traumatized 😉. I am not going to lie, I am still missing a certain character and I quite possibly will hold a grudge forever against the author because of it. 😜 The third book was engaging and delightful, with a few wonderful new characters and it left me wanting more. It was a page turner just like the first two and it is easy to like (or hate) the characters of the series. If you’ve read the first two, don’t wait any longer and get this one too. If you haven’t started reading the book series, get on with it. I mean what are you waiting for? I can assure you that you and your teenagers will love it.
Having read book's 1 and 2 in the Hidden in Roll series, I couldn't wait to read the final part - Found in Roll - to find out how Jo recovers from the events of book 2 (no spoilers!).
As with book 1 and 2, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. However, I found myself a bit frustrated with Jo at times in this book. After everything she's been through I thought that she was a little too trusting and a little too naïve. Surely she could have made a quick phone call to Aunt Suzie to check on things!! The fact that I was invested enough in a character to be annoyed is a credit to the author's writing skills though.
Found in Roll is a fabulous conclusion to Hidden in Roll series. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think middle graders the world over would enjoy it!
