When Chipmunk is paired with Joe on the class trip, things get ugly -- and fast! Chipmunk spills his apple juice on Joe, he barfs on Joe, and he pulls down Joe's pants. All accidents, of course. But does Joe care? No way! He is out to get Chipmunk! Bernie Bridges can't stand to see Chipmunk, one of his Rotten House guys, bullied by big, mean Sweety. So it's payback time -- and Bernie has a spook-tacular plan. It turns out that Sweety is scared of ghosts. Petrified! Dudes, the School Is Haunted
The story starts on a field trip in the Bird House at the Lousy Town Zoo. As the name implies it’s not that great a zoo. There’s a three-legged elephant and pandas that are stuffed. The Bird House only has a turkey and a sick, yellow, canary, on a perch. Still the fourth-grade students are having a good time because they love going on field trips into town. (Because the Rotten School is a boarding school).

Bernie asks a shy boy named Chipmunk if he enjoyed himself and he says a squirrel scared him. So, to calm his nerves he’s drinking apple juice. It helps when he has car sickness. Joe Sweety(the meanest kid at the school) scares Chipmunk (by yelling MOVE IT) and he squeezes juice in his face. Sweety takes Chipmunk and starts to shake him causing him to squirt juice in his face a second time. He bawls up his fist. Bernie covers his eyes.

When Bernie looks, Sweety has his arm around Chipmunk’s shoulders but then he sees that’s because Mrs. Heinie is standing there asking if there’s a problem. Sweeney tells her they were just sharing apple juice. April-May is sitting by herself and Bernie takes the opportunity to ask her on a date to see a scary movie coming up, but Jennifer snatches him up, says he’ll be going with her, and pulls him into the seat next to her. Sweety is still taunting Chipmunk when Mrs. Heiny isn’t looking and inviting him to meet Mr. Fist’s brother (OTHER FIST). This bus hits a bump and Chipmunk throws up on Sweety.

Joe Sweety rips off Chipmunks shirt to clean the vomit off himself. Fortunately, Mrs. Heinie comes to Chipmunks again. By the time they get back to the school, all the lights have gone out in the Student Center and its thundering and lightning outside. I’m Bernie sees Joe Sweeney with his pants down and he’s wearing boxers with yellow flowers on them. Chipmunk is pleading with him that it’s an accident. He grabbed for the first thing he could it in the dark not knowing it would be Sweeney’s pants. Mrs. Heinie takes him to Principal Upchuck for showing off his underpants. As he leaves he waves his fist at Chipmunk and reminds him of his “play date”.

Chipmunk tells Bernie he’s doomed, but Bernie tells him on the contrary. He’s a hero. He got away with it. But Chipmunk says did he. Bernie throws a party for Chipmunk, but when he’s not there he sends someone to look for him. He shows up with his nose up-side down. Bernie sets it right. Bernie tells him Sweeney can’t get away with this. Chipmunk says Sweeney said this was just a “love tap”. He’s gonna make him flop around like a seal. Chipmunk goes to hide in his room. Bernie tells his friends the best way to get revenge on Sweeney is using his brain.

Bernie asks Apil-May out again to the same movie but she says she’ll be busy drilling another eye socket in her head. HE’s so clueless he thinks she’s just “shy”, He goes to get Chipmunk for dinner and he’s climbed up in the ceiling and says he plans to stay there until the end of the school year. He asks if Bernie can bring him some sandwiches. No tuna fish. Bernie says sure but promises he’s going to find a way to protect him.

At the movie, Bernie gets an idea when Joe Sweety runs out of the movie screaming. He’s going to haunt him. Bernie decides to make Sweety think there’s a ghost in Nyce House and that its after him. Knowing Joe lifts weights in the gym every morning, Bernie and Feeney go there. Bernie tells Feeney he Nyce House ghost is a hundred years old. He returns every five years, and he always goes after guys named Joe. A hundred years ago, when the ghost was a Rotten School student, a big dude named Joe used to sit on him and tickle him till he peed. Soon the poor

kid died of embarrassment. And since then, he hates anyone named Joe. Every five years, he returns to Nyce House to haunt another Joe. Joe drops a weight on his foot. Bernie tells him don’t worry. He only comes once a month and in months with R in them. But this month has an R in it Joe says.

Bernie says he can tell if the ghost is after him because he uses his spirit power to make his victim lose weight. He also only goes after those that are left-handed. But of course, Joe is left-handed. Bernie says its probably just a legend. Joe nods and then hops out of the gym clearly terrified. Bernie asks Billy to hack into Joe’s computer and when he turns on his computer, I want him to see two huge, scary black eyes staring out of the screen at him. And then Sweety hears a whisper: 'I'm coming.... I'm coming for you, Billy says no problem. When he gets back, Joe is standing at his door and says he’s going to introduce him to FIST and OTHER FIST. He knows the truth. There’s no Nyce House ghost.

He says his friends told him and Bernie goes along with it. Interestingly, Joe tells him he’s lying and there *is* a ghost and runs out the room screming. Bernie has Belzer sneak over to Nyce House and mess with Joe’s scale so it looks like he lost 5lbs. Again this freaks out Joe. That night, Bernie plans to sneak over to Nyce House himself and watch Joe really get freaked when he turns on his computer.

After dinner, Bernie, Feenman, Crench, and Belzer are on their way to Joe’s room when they hear a scream. Chipmunk sees black eyes and hears a voice coming from his computer that says its coming for him. Billy accidently hacked the wrong computer. He thought Bernie wanted him to hack Chipmunks. Belzer then slips Joe a uniform that’s way too big and he thinks he’s lost 10lbs in 2 days. Joe says he’s going to move in with Bernie. The ghost won’t look for him in Rotton House. Bernie says that’s a good idea but Joe says forget it. He’s lying to him again.

Bernie says don’t worry about the ghost only goes for people over 5 ft and has two left feet. But Joe has both. Bernie asks has he seem any ecto-plasm. Joe says no. Then Bernie tells him he has nothing to worry about. Feeman has some green hair gel that he drinks. They drop it in his room and set his scale back 5 more lbs. The next day Joe looks ill and he says its after him. He tells him the ghost was in his room. He tells him about the ecto-plasm that tasted like hair gel. Bernie tells him the ghost only wants Joe’s that have middle names that start with Q.

He says his middle name is Quisenberry. Bernie says at least he didn’t wrap him up in a cocoon. He tells him that’s how the ghost destroys his victims. Then he says he’s lying. But Joe says that means he’s lying. Bernie tells him he’s totally safe. Then he tells Feenman, Crench, and Belzer to meet him after dinner. They’re almost done haunting Joe Sweety. Bernie asks Billy how to make a cocoon-a REALLY BIG ONE- and Billy tells him he’ll need a thousand caterpillars. Bernie decides to use white, crazy, string instead. They’ll take a picture of him screaming and send it to everyone in school. Then he’ll never harass another kid at Rotten School.

Bernie and his friends sneak into Nyce House and find Sweety’s room. They start to cover him in Crazy String but then the lights flip on. It turns out Sweety and Chipmunk teamed up to protect each other because they’re both scared of ghost and it was Chipmunk in Sweety’s bed. Sweety’s the one who walks in and says now they now who the ghost is and he introduces Bernie to both his fists. The next morning, Bernie also gets a pounding from Chipmunk for trying to scare his friend.

My Thoughts:
Usually, I don’t think much of this character Bernie. I’ve been slow to read these books because honestly this series is just a little too juvenile for me. But I will saw Bernie did *try* to do a good thing in this one. And a good thing without it benefiting him in anyway. But I think that what I took from this story is not to get involved in other people’s fights. And that’s a sad thing if you really want to help someone. It makes me think of something that happened last year that was a little similar. I have a cousin that’s about seven and a bully was picking on a smaller kid. So, my little cousin tried to stand up for him -the wrong way- by arguing back and forth with the bully about weapons they had. (He didn’t really have a weapon and the weapon he choose wasn’t a good choose against what the bully choose). So, anyway someone told the teacher what my little cousin said. Ignoring what the bully said (or did) and my cousin got called to the office and they were going to put it on my little cousin’s permanent record and expel him. Just him now. Not the bully who started the whole thing by picking on the smaller kid. Thankfully my cousin came to the school and said if his son got expelled the other kid was getting expelled too. And I think they let it go. But see? That’s the injustice sometimes of trying to do the right thing and fight for someone else. You end up getting screwed. It would have been *the* last time I was quick to jump to help Chipmunk.

Bernie feels really bad that his friend Chipmunk has been beat up by Joe Sweety for spilling apple juice all over him TWICE, for barfing on him and for accidentally pulling his pants down! Bernie is going to take revenge on him for hurting his friend by scaring his pants off!

I thought the book was awesome and it had a great plot and I loved how R.L. Stine ended the book. I would suggest this book if you like grows things and funny jokes and you will not be disappointed.

Joe Sweety is a bully and this book is about how Bernie Bridges and his friends try to scare Joe into thinking there is a ghost in Rotten School.

I didnt like reading about Joe because I think bullies are nasty and I was disappointed that Bernies attempts to get revenge didnt work out.

Lots of funny moments in this book and I would read the other books in the Rotten School series.

Some things I liked about Dudes, the School is Haunted! by R. L. Stine was that the character Joe Sweety was kind of like the classic stereotype of a bully mean and strong and super dumb. Another thing I liked was that Joe Sweety didn’t believe Chipmunk when Chipmunk said that all the humiliating stuff he did to Joe was a accident because I wouldn’t have believed it either. Another thing I liked about this book was that Chipmunk developed to a shy nerd to a good friend for Joe Sweety like hoe he beat up Bernie for messing with Joe. Some things I didn’t like about Dudes, the School is Haunted! by R. L. Stine was how come Chipmunk stood up for Joe even though Joe bullied him and they hanged out for about a week or so. Another thing I didn’t like was that Bernie went out like a chump like how he got beat up by Chipmunk, if Chipmunk can fight I’m surprised not everyone in the school can fight. Another thing I didn’t like was if Bernie had such a problem with Jennifer Ecch why doesn’t he just tell on her for harassment because she does kiss his arms and stuff like that. That is all the things I liked and didn’t like about Dudes, the School is Haunted! by R. L. Stine I recommend this book to 5th graders.

Back on my little R.L. Stine kick and rereading books/series from when I was younger. Not my typical level or book, so I’m not going to say a bad word one about this series or book. They truly are fun reads with cool drawings throughout. R.L. Stine books are highly recommend by me.

Bernie Bridges is back and his latest scheme is finally making sure the school bully never bullies anyone again. Bernie spreads a rumor that there’s a Rotten School ghost that haunts a student named Joe. Joe also happens to be the school bully. Bernie and his friends start planning harmless pranks to make the ghost story seem real. From leaving ectoplasm that’s just hair gel, to hacking computer screens, to setting scales backwards in numbers. Bernie won’t stop until he truly makes Joe believe it, but what if Joe isn’t as gullible and turns the tables around on Bernie?

My 7-year-old daughter is a Goosebumps fan. We couldn’t find any Goosebumps books in the library at the time, so we got this instead.

The humor is definitely geared toward the little ones. And I don’t think it was scary at all. My daughter thought the same. But she did think it was really funny.

I wasn’t a fan. The end just ruined it for me.

I would give it 2 stars, but I put 3 because my daughter liked it.

I think was a book that went everywhere. The book is mostly about a 4th grade superstar who finds out the most biggest kid in school is afraid of ghosts. They go on a fieldtrip and this weak kid named chipmunk accidentaly spills juice on Joe Sweety. He pulls out his fists but the teacher always comes and his pretends like there friends. Anyways the crew whic includes bernie and his friends plan pranks on Big joe. They always tell joe that a ghost only attacks a certain things and they all end up to be the same things that Joe does. At the end joe figures out about the plan and bernie meets mr fist and other fist.
This book was really enjoyable and that is my review of this book

I don't know what compelled me to read this. I was in the library today (looking for class texts) and I just didn't want to leave. Here I am, standing in the children's section, and it hits me I just need a simple book, something to calm me down after the ridiculous high-stress day I've had. Goosebumps was my first mission, but instead I found this... R L Stine's next project, I suppose.

Honestly? It's no Goosebumps. But I liked it. It definitely calmed me down (well, that and the peacefulness of the library... excluding the creepy wacko standing behind the nearest shelves swearing to himself while staring at me between the books...) Plus it only took me 20 minutes to read. Definitely a fast, entertaining stress reliever for the older, nostalgic ones like myself, and I think it'd be an enjoyable read for those littlies just starting off, too (it seems a bit more basic than Goosebumps in my opinion, plus there's pictures!).

It's been awhile since I read this book, so I didn't remember one single thing about it. Unlike the previous installments, Bernie's enemy, Sherman Oaks, doesn't appear; instead the focus is on the school bully, Joe Sweety. Bullying is a horrible thing that occurs in schools; I was bullied throughout junior high and high school during the 90s, and it's a tough thing to get over. R.L. Stine puts his a comical touch on the subject, with Bernie and pals getting revenge on on the school bully. While there are a few funny jokes here and there, the plot here is kind of bland. However, I still liked reading (well, rereading) it.

At first I thought that it was just for little kids from first grade to fifth grade, but when I read
to the second page and I figured that I related to one moves because when I was in fourth grade I used to do schemes that today I'm not very proud of that and I regret it, but it is very funny and enjoyable to read and heartwarming and really scary!!!!!!!!!
