The Inconvenient Conversation: Race-Based Life Insurance Premiums

Rate this book
The Inconvenient Conversation – Race-Based Life Insurance Premiums America has quite a complicated history with its people of color when it comes to money or wealth. The fact is that any asset that could be used to build wealth e.g., homeownership and insurance policies, was denied to most black citizens. The national discussions on reparations for Black Americans must include an additional conversation about the destruction of our capacity to leave legacy assets to our children due to nefarious business practices of Insurance Companies. Insurance Companies that were implicated in the institutionalized racism scheme that lasted for more than 200 years will cry, “We already confessed and paid for our sins.” My response is this, “No sir, you have not. Not when you consider the time value of money and the missed opportunity cost.” The Inconvenient Truth is that the conversation about race-based life insurance premiums is far from over. This practice went on for over 100 years. It annihilated the second-best chance for descendants of Black slaves to build wealth...Generational Wealth. As a student and accredited practitioner of the financial services industry, I reevaluated the Life Insurance Companies settlements they made to my people in the early part of this century. I will give you a historical perspective, so our current generations understand how this practice affected them. From there, I will share with you why I make the statement why the raced-based premiums settlements are far from over. Lastly, I will suggest how additional restorative reparations should be paid to the descendants of those who were victims of this unethical punitive practice. If you are African American and you, your parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and other descendants owned life insurance whose premiums were collected weekly or monthly by insurance agents...you need to read 'The Inconvenient Conversation – Race-Based Life Insurance Premiums' If you read the first book in the Pathways series, 'Pathways to Generational Wealth for Black Americans - Restorative Reparations and Financial Literacy Education’…you will want to read this book which is second in the Pathways Series. A Great Read for The Entire Family and a Tremendous Reference Tool. James Morris Robinson CLU, ChFC, CFP, CRPC, MSFS
