Mahalia and Malcolm know that they do not belong to the typical African American family, but that doesn't stop them from loving their family and just being kids. After their home is invaded by a masked stranger, the siblings set off on a brave and daring adventure to rescue their family. Plunged into an incredible battle to save the family, the kids struggle with the normal fears and anxieties, but they soon discover the enormous range of their superpowers! They also discover incredible secrets about their family: like Douglass: the family's robot and RedTail1, the family's aircraft. The most important discovery they uncover is the courage that it takes to keep a superhero family together. Filled with excitement and riveting escapades, The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm: the Robinsons, is the perfect book to show young readers that superheroes come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ages!
The author wanted to tell the story of a family of black superheroes and the book showcases the love, pain and growth of the Robinson family and the adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm.
The family is having a get-together and during their dinner, they are attacked by a mysterious hooded person (the villian) who abducts the grandfather. The grandmother Olivia along with her grandchildren Malcolm and Mahalia must save him, therefore their adventure begins.
The story is not just another fantasy book with confused characters, it is much more because of the diverse, brave and strong characters. The storywriting is intense and gripping. The characters are well described and powerful. The author takes up the opportunity to teach young readers that superheroes come in all shapes, sizes, colors and ages because this is an entire family of superheroes. The book is adorned with lovely illustrations for most of the amazing scenes from the story.
The book is not just meant for children, it can be easily enjoyed by readers of all ages. The book has incredible elements of superpowers, robots, aircrafts and a courageous family that can go to any extent for the safety of their loved ones. Only that the writing was slightly confusing as parts of it were written in third person and others in first person.
The book cover is simply marvellous. We see a lot of action going on there and all of the important characters! Along with that each illustration inside has been incredibly amazing. Since February is the Black History Month, reading this book becomes much more relevant. This science fiction fantasy is one-of-a-kind and I surely can't wait for the next installment!
When you think about superheroes, many different things might come to your mind: powers, saving the world, capes, costumes, or even Marvel.
However, no matter what comes to mind, there's something special about superheroes...that they're heroes!
The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm The Robinsons shows us how heroes are made by the path they choose, not the powers they are graced with.
From the outside, The Robinsons are the typical American family to any stranger, however, Malcolm and Mahaila have always had the gut feeling that it was something else.
When there is an invasion, this feeling of theirs is proven true and they must now navigate through everything to create a sense of understanding.
This was a perfect blend of good story as well as good coloring schemes to make the young readers occupied through out.

Terance L. Shipman and Prudence Williams have penned one delightful children's book. with the perfect dose of heroic fiction garnished with a dash of moral values. Usually Plot is what drives a children's book or a middle grade book, but just as important as plot is world-building and the authors have been exceptionally great in this category.
The inclusion of values like togetherness, family values and having diverse characters with very quirky traits is what made the book all the more perfect and an important read!

Life is really unpredictable. One event can change your whole path. And its up to you to choose your fate. Will you let these events make you into the bad person or good person. One such life changing event happened with Malcolm and Mahalia. Mahalia and Malcolm belonged to a happy African-American family. Although there was just one thing that made them different from the rest the families around. Their family had possessed superpowers since long before. Although Mahalia and Malcolm were kids they were still taught to familiarise themselves with this incredible power. One day while they were having a great time with their family they get invaded and attacked by strange people. People they have not even encountered with in their life before. This Stranger took their Grandfather away with him and injured the rest of the family. Their Grandmother decided that the safety of the family came first and she decided to save her husband alone.Mahalia and Malcolm were held back to safety but just sitting and waiting made them restless. So Mahalia came up with a plan to rescue and assist their Grandma. What will happen when these two kids go out in the world without any clue. Will their plan be successful? Will they be able to reach their Grandmother in time? Really loved the exciting adventure story. Not only was the story super fun to read it was full of illustrations as well which made it interesting on the way. The story itself was full of rich values and had a lot of meaningful messages. The characters were represented by people of color which was a very nice change to see. Everybody is just as important no matter their colour, their size or their age. I would definitely recommend this book for your little ones. It would make a great addition to their collection and open the spectrum of their minds as well.

From the moment I picked up The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm: The Robinsons by Terance Shipman, I felt the magic of those classic comic book days, the ones where every page brought a thrill and a mystery to uncover. Shipman’s story felt both new and familiar, pulling me into a world where family bonds and superhero strength go hand-in-hand. As I read, I felt an instant connection to the journey of Mahalia and Malcolm, two siblings who find themselves called to protect their family, and each other, with newfound powers they never anticipated.
At the heart of this story, it’s all about family and the strength that comes from being united, even in the face of the unknown. Shipman introduces us to a dynamic African American family that’s as relatable as they are extraordinary. Through Mahalia and Malcolm’s journey, he dives into themes of bravery, the weight of responsibility, and embracing one’s identity, with each chapter unfolding like an invitation to reflect on one’s own family ties and inner strengths. I found myself rooting for the siblings as they navigated fears and faced a masked stranger, and in every twist.
One of my favorite aspects of the book is how Shipman balances action with quieter, thought-provoking moments, creating a well-paced story that held my attention from beginning to end. Mahalia and Malcolm aren’t larger-than-life superheroes; they’re real kids with real fears, and their resilience and vulnerability make them so relatable. The story is wonderfully diverse and representative, something I feel is so crucial in children’s literature today. The illustrations by Yvonne Abuda add another layer of richness, drawing readers further into the siblings’ vibrant world with visuals that truly capture the story’s spirit.
For anyone looking for a children’s book that is both adventurous and heartwarming, The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm is a treasure. 🎉The book follows the journey of two kids from a typical African American family, knowing that African American families often face discrimination in America. The same challenges arise for these two cousins, who become the protagonists of the story. One day, their home is invaded by masked strangers, and that's when the real adventure begins. The siblings display courage and take action to protect their family, plunging into a battle they never expected. Initially filled with fear and anxiety, they discover extraordinary powers within themselves as they strive to rescue their family. They also uncover family secrets, such as Doughlass being a robot and Redtail1 serving as their family's aircraft. But above all, they learn about the courage it takes to keep a family together.

My Opinion: Woah! My goodness it's an entertaining children's book but a lot to learn from it. I never thought a story can be this thoughtful and sweet indeed. I read this to kiddo and my niece and they loved it too. It's a story about truth, care and what it takes to protect. I totally loved it.

The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm: The Robinsons by Terance Shipman is an illustrated representation of the fictional superhuman phenomenon. At the outset, it must be mentioned that the attractive colourful cover will grab your attention while taking you back to your childhood days of reading comics. Then the suitable adornment of the pages with pertinent artwork made the story appealing and soothing to the eyes.
The story is itself wonderful with all the aspects of such a fictional heroic tale. From having a life of normalcy to leading life in a different way than everyone else around them, may seem like a gift but in reality, the situational constraints push them to construct such a way. The blurb will tell you about the subjective part of the story but IMO it's more than just the story that I will explain in the past paragraph.
We tend to see our heroes to be perfect without any flaws and wrongs. Our reality of fictional characters is limited to how a handful of people created for us. The lector while scripting the story pinpointed such stereotypical viewpoints and introduced characters in all shapes, sizes, colours and ages with desired flaws and blemishes. Our imagination must not be restricted by the few controllers rather the situation must be that a normal person with several flaws can imagine himself in the suit of such superhuman. And This glorious something you must take from the ink of the mighty pen of the wordsmith. Excited for such a new concept and shape of superhuman? Grab the book to know more about the story!
Book - The adventure of Mahalia and Malcolm: The Robinsons Authors - Terance L. Shipman & Prudence Williams
A lovely children's story book with just the right amount of heroic fiction and moral values sprinkled throughout. "Anyone can be a superhero." It's true, and Mahalia and Malcolm feel certain in their assertion. They are keenly aware of the differences between their family and other African American families. How dissimilar are they? They'll find out about that soon enough. When their parents are kidnapped by a strange masked guy, the children have no choice but to save them. They discover they have superhuman abilities and are now on a mission to save the people they love. Will they be able to pull it off? A children's or middle-grade book's plot is usually its driving force, but world-building is just as important, and the authors have succeeded in this area. The inclusion of ideas such as togetherness, family values, and a diverse cast of individuals with a variety of unusual characteristics made the novel stand out for me. The characters have a good balance of power, and the author has chosen a setting that will send the right verbal and visual message to the right audience. Thanks to the beautiful illustrations by Yvonne Abuda, this book stands out as one of the most engaging children's books I've seen in a long time. With futuristic technology and robotics, the book is both fascinating and entertaining to read. Highly recommended👏
Mahalia and Malcolm, children of an African-American family who have inherited secret superpowers from their forefathers, embark on a fanatical mission. A circumstance emerges in which the children must acknowledge their power and assist their grandmother in restoring normalcy. Were they able to keep their power under control and gain respect in the situation? It was a superpower family that hoped to spend their lives together blissfully. The entire home vibrated as the entire family feasted together, and everyone scattered here and there. It wasn’t an earthquake but a bizarre looking person was shooting drugged bullet darts on the family. The two children, Mahalia and Malcolm, who both had superpowers, were taught to look after the family and their surroundings in an emergency. It was time for them to show their might and save the family. Terance Shipman and his wife Prudence Williams Shipman have written a great narrative. With brand new children's versions of Shipman's classic and internationally bestselling series, it's time to pass on the enchantment. An exciting plot with plenty of adrenaline rushes. Yvonne Abuda's illustrations were exceptional, and they helped me visualise the events clearly. This book is about people who are family driven and can do anything to protect their family. Must Read!!

It was a super power family who believed to live their life happily together. While the entire family was feasting together, the whole house vibrated and everyone scattered here and there. It wasn’t an earthquake but a strange looking guy was throwing drugged bullet darts on the family. The two kids Mahalia and Malcolm who too possessed super powers were trained to take care of the family and their surroundings in the hour of need. It was time to prove their powers and save the family.
It’s a lovely story by author Terance Shipman and his wife Prudence Williams Shipman. It's time to pass on the magic with brand new children's editions of the classic and internationally bestselling series by Shipman’s. It's not so much about the world and magic, but more about relationships, conflicts and the dialogue between characters. I suppose this makes more sense in a story, where the story unravels through dialogue and not through an omniscient narration.
Each and every book written by Terance Shipman has a message and I have already read a couple of stories. Each story is different and entertaining with pleasing illustrations.
A zealous expedition of Mahalia and Malcolm, kids from an African-American family, who has inherited secret superpowers from their forefathers. A situation arises when the kids have to own up to their power and help their grandma to restore normalcy. Were they able to control their power and be esteemed of the situation? * An engaging plot with adrenaline gushing moments. The illustrations of Yvonne Abuda were a class apart and helped me to distinctly picturise the happenings. * The writing style is perspicuous. Character sketch has been skillfully woven together without any overlaps. The narrative kept me hooked till its last page and I'm eagerly waiting for the next part !! * The family bondings were something that I cherished a lot alongside the adorable magic feats. The guest appearance of their Aunt at the fitting moment gave me goosebumps. * The use of science to knead futuristic tech took me in awe. Being a Sci-Fi fan I utterly loved the tech parts. * If you're looking to gift a book to your little niece or nephew, then this will be the best option. And also if you're looking for a quick, engrossing read, Count this in!
The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm: the Robinsons, is a wonderful and meaningful book especially for young readers to make them understand that superheroes exists and they comes in all shapes, sizes and colors. I am a big fan of such kind of superheroes story and this really made my day.
I really liked this book so much. While I was reading the second half of this book it occurred to me that I don't actually need to read any other novel ever again, I could just read this one book over and over again for the rest of my days.
Terance has a flair in language use. He employs the right words at all the right moments to make us feel exactly what he intends us to feel, and see exactly what he wants us to see. With this ability at hands he creates a fine balance. The characters, be it the main protagonists or otherwise, are solidly drawn and interesting, as lovable as they are flawed.
A literary merit though this book is, please be warned that you will love it so much that you will try to read all the books from this author. This book transported me into a different world. Can't wait to read more books from this author. Loved it totally...highly recommending.

🔹There's a storey of optimism, a storey of familial love, and a storey of adventure and travel.
🔹This is a book that I would strongly advise parents to read.
The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcom is a middle grade sci-fi fantasy novel that has superhero as its theme !
The book is centred around Mahalia and Malcom , kids from an African-American family who seem to possess superpowers. How these kids put these powers , inherited from their forefathers , are put to use is the interesting story line of this book . The book is so action packed with no dull moments that you will hardly be able to put it down. It can be easily read in one-sitting.
The illustrations by Yvonne Abuda are so well done ! They elevate the reading experience of the story to a different level ! Even though the book is MG and more suited for children , adults are sure to enjoy this as well .This was my first book by this author and I loved how the characters were so sweet and likeable especially the bonding between the family was portrayed beautifully and I think its a great element to be present in a children’s book.
If you are looking for a book to gift your kids, nieces or nephews , here is my what I ‘d recommend . I will surely be reading the next instalment in the series and I cannot wait for it !
Mahalia and Malcolm were happy along with the other family members to have uncle Junior come back home but just then an evil red hood weird looking guy motioned with his goons and attacked the family with poison darts. They took away grandfather Marshall and injured grandmother Olivia and his two sons.
🕵️♀️Blessed with powers on purpose Mahalia and Malcolm determine to protect the family along with their grandmother Olivia. Soon they discover many secrets and characters of which they weren’t aware until this day.
🕵️♀️Author Terence Shipman and Prudence William has again done a commendable job with his adventure story. Beautiful illustrations by Yvonne Abuda has added a cherry on the cake. The book captures the magical moments of power and hidden truth with a dramatic plot. They should make a movie about it! In fact, the story lends itself very well for a sequel which is very much awaited by me.
🕵️♀️If you're a Potterhead, you are definitely going to fall in love with this book too and it would definitely look beautiful on your shelf!
This book is a completely new genre chosen by Author Terance Shipman and Prudence Williams. Author did a really good job in writing this book though this was a new concept for the author but it felt like author was planning to write this book for a very long time. You expect a children's fiction book to be illogical and nonsense but this book is not. This book is totally worth your time and money. As an adult I can say that i also enjoyed reading this book. I personally think people of every age group can read and enjoy this book. This book will sure teach your kids some moral values. Illustrations in this book are spectacular. According to me good illustrations are the most important part in a children's book and the illustrations in this book were so beautiful that kids would want to reread it. Language used in the book is simple which makes it easier for kids to understand and connect with this book. Every kid will definitely love to read a superhero book with book with brilliant illustrations. This is what I call a perfect children's book.

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘: "The Adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm: The Robinsons" is a book by the authors Terance Shipman and Prudence Williams.
Malcolm and Mahalia are the main characters of the story. Malcolm and Mahalia's parents are Aaron and Cassandra. One day, something unexpected happened when the family was having dinner together. Malcolm's grandfather was shot with tranquilizers by the person who invaded their house.
However, the invaders were unsuccessful in taking down Grandma Olivia. They took Grandpa Marshall away. It's on Malcolm and Mahalia now what they can do to protect their family. This is a lovely children's book that will motivate the kids to be like superheroes and face challenges in life instead of running away from them. Illustrations are pretty and will catch anyone's attention in the first look. I am glad to get my hands on this amazing book.

📚I always look forward to read children fiction books whenever I don't want to read anything complex by giving it a chill and calm read, which is also quick to read no matter how long the book is.
📚I had a similar experience with this book "The adventures of Mahalia and Malcolm: The Robinson by Author Terance where our protagonist are young superheroes, though even they did not know this since the beginning but a tragic incident helped them to realize their strengths and powers when their African American family was attacked and invaded by goons and the siblings ended up knowing their wide range of heroic powers.
📚My first and foremost reason to like the book is the superpower element which reminded me of my childhood memories when I used to watch numerous cartoons and read tons of book where the child protagonist is a superhero and something. The second I would say the length and language/narration of the book, which was apt and well structured.
So I wanted to check this out since one of my friend suggested it. And being true I loved it. The cover of the book is so captivating, one cannot help but to pick it up. So this is the story of Mahalia and Malcolm, and their riveting adventure to rescue their family from a masked strangers. The siblings knew about their powers or I should say blessed power, so they knew sooner or later they have to take up all responsibilities coming with the powers.
The storyline is kid friendly and the character personification has been done really well too. The narrative style is unique and the title suits the story really well.
I really loved this book and want to recommend this one to you. If you are searching for a good and adventurous book for your toddler, you should definitely check this one out
