If a great tennis player challenged you to a match, what would you do? You’d study the game, learn its rules, practice, and make sure you had the right equipment to succeed—and you’d go into it knowing that winning would be tough.
Landing the right job can be just as without planning, training, practice, and networking, you don’t stand much of a chance to win a job that offers a bright future.
In this guidebook to securing the job of your choice, you’ll learn how to • determine what jobs are a good match for you, • write cover letters that hiring managers notice, • tailor a résumé to the position you’re seeking to ¬fill, and • make a great ¬first impression on job interviews.
If you’re serious about winning the game, you need to prepare—and it starts with equipping yourself with the insights and strategies in Learning to Fish in the Twenty-First Century.
This is a great book and I love that it teaches so many of us to be smart and on top of our game in selecting a job that really speaks to us. Furthermore, the workbook that goes with it is also extremely helpful. It has a set of questionnaires that guides the readers into assessing themselves and what they really want for themselves. Personally, I like the "Fishing Analogy" because it tells you that as an applicant or someone who is pursuing a career, it is actually not only the employers that needs you, but then you need to figure out yourself first, fish for the best option and then make a decision that is most beneficial for you. It is primarily all about you and what you want. Nothing beats that because our happiness at work is a part of our emotional and mental health.
I love this book and I highly recommend it to a lot of people who are looking to build their careers and find themselves.
One of the best books I've read pertaining to self-evaluation and choosing the career that you have envisioned for yourself. Not a lot of people understand what they want and it's always good to have an efficient workbook to guide you into pursuing your goals.
The workbook and the self-help evaluations about my strength and weaknesses was my favorite activity! I think that it got me to understand who I am and what I really want. I have always known that my skills revolved around the technical and analytical aspect, moreover it was the work environment that killed me. I worked at a huge office with a stable process already in place. Moreover, apart from me being analytical and technical I am also very creative and I seek to question and analyze every data presented which is something that can’t be undone anymore because the system is already in place. With that being said I felt that my capabilities were not encouraged and I felt like I did not belong. However, having to be given that push and extra confidence from this book made me realize what I truly want and had me pursue that decision to live my dream of becoming a software designer.
I am recommending this book to everyone seeking advancement and seeking a wonderful career for themselves! I believe that everyone deserves to be happy with their job and this is a great tool that will help people find out what will truly make them happy!
A very helpful and enriching book. I believe that this book is best fitted for the people in the new millennium!
A lot of us would agree that 30 or 50 years ago people's minds were not as complicated as they are now. People were more content, more at peace with what they have and did not have access to Social Media that corrupted their thoughts. And so, as the world evolves, we need tools to help bring us back to our psychology and what truly matters- minus the distraction.
I find this book to be the most helpful for me and for all the lads out there looking to build their career in the new millennium.
Furthermore, I think that this book will help everyone! Male and female alike, this will benefit them and will make them realize where they are at, from their core and if the career of their choice is really their calling. In addition it also has guides for newbies seeking for a job that allows them to create a wonderful cover letter, a well thought resume and how to prepare for the interview.
Everyone should read this book! I think that the veterans in the workplace will help remind them on what they need to do to reassess themselves and how happy they still are with their current work environment and task. Lastly, this will also help the new graduates and young adults to prepare themselves at choosing the career they want.
I think this book is functional, well written and highly educational! Furthermore, I believe that this is best to be read by college graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs and also the younger generation who are starting to build themselves!
I think it is functional because it includes a guide where you will get to know your weaknesses and your strengths. You will also be able to understand what you like in the workplace and the job that you enjoy doing. Moreover, it then teaches you how to write a wonderful cover letter and a fitting resume before the interview. Also, there was a very important message from this book which might be helpful for the younger generation, and that is Building A Good Online Presence. I believe that this is the best advice! The proper online presence needs to be attractive to companies and entrepreneurs as it helps them assess if you are right for the job and if you can represent them properly. Moreover, with the right technique about this control of information, companies will now be able to narrow down the qualities they are looking for and might consider hiring you.
How simple can it be? We never truly understand the right dynamics until it is played out and explained properly. I am beyond grateful for this information and I plan to share this to my friends and family.
Great and fitting illustrations, a very engaging self help guide and a thorough process that encourages people to do what they love! Isn't that great?
Donna Chlopak did a great job at expressing what she wants the readers to learn. She makes sure that each process is facilitated with careful evaluation of oneself and then moving on to the job proper, what it entails, how it works and then doing the necessary steps to get hired. I believe that this will really help a lot of people assess their life and what they should be doing to live it. As she had mentioned, we spend a lot of time at work, because some of us work at about 8 hours or so, and if we are unhappy with our career choice then it does have an impact to our health. With that said, I believe that this book is not only a good "workbook" to follow, but also a reminder for us to seek health as the ultimate priority before anything else. Emotional and mental health is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves and will produce a better environment and harmonious relationship with the people we work for and the people we have personal relations with.
Such a great book and I am grateful to have read it!
The "weekday percentage average hours" was a tool of awakening for me! I think that this made me realize how important it is for me to be really happy with my job as this gets to be the majority of time we spend. Moreover, I am proud to say that I have found my bliss! Working as a customer service representative before and working up to 10 hours without overtime pay and then having to keep up with our unattainable scorecards was something I never felt fair and empowered to change. I hated the fact that I was just following the rules and was not given the freedom to change it and make it work for both parties. And so, I switched and became an Affiliate Marketing Business owner. Moreover, even if I may have already found what I'm looking for, this book is still a wonderful guideline that makes me remember what is important for me.
I believe that everyone will benefit from this book! This is a book that will open avenues of great opportunities and realizations about yourself that you don't even know exist. And, if you want to be empowered in your career aspirations, then this one will help you out!
This book is GOLD! I see it as a great informational and educational piece perfect for my children! As a dad, I'm always in the lookout for what makes them happy and content. I believe that it is more important than having a lot of money. And so, I can't wait for them to read it because I am sure that in the future they will need all the guidance and self-realization they would need to understand what they want.
I am also very much impressed by this book! It starts from evaluating one's self, the career of your choice and then moving on to the work you need to do to facilitate the process. What that means is that it also guides you towards creating a good cover letter, resume and prepping for an interview. I believe everyone ought to read it! Even if you might already be happy with your career, learning about yourself is a self-evolving process and to be reminded and be given access to the tools of this book to help you design the career of your choice is one of the best learning you can do for yourself.
I believe that the theme of this book helps people understand themselves, know what they want for themselves and then facilitate what they have visualized for themselves! I am grateful to have read such a good piece of information that will also help me figure out if I really want to pursue my goals.
I have always loved travelling and being in the office made me feel constricted and unproductive. Now transitioning to doing freelance work and considering video editing and also voice over recordings for clients is something I plan to do in the future. One thing that resonated with me from this book is Work Environment. I am convinced that not everyone is designed to live inside the confines of the office and some people are highly active and dynamic. Figuring myself out from this book has truly helped me take a leap to the life I want. And so, now that I know better, I am going to manifest that dream and finally do what I really want,
Thank you for the amazing information this book offers! It is indeed helpful!
This book is gold~ First, I love that it is a self-aware piece of information and then it teaches you to research about the career that you want. I also like the additional information about the "General Job Sites". I think that part is very helpful since it's for free and you can check out a lot more options for yourself aside from LinkedIn.
Furthermore, this also helps you to look at the details of what the employer is looking for and if you are a good fit for them. This helps the job searcher eliminate the mistake of applying for a job that she is not designed to do. Lastly, I also think that the information about "How to Make the Cover Letter" and "Resume" is very helpful, because this sets the tone of why you should be considered for the job. And the guidelines are well presented which will really help you land on the job you want.
I am sure to say that anyone who will read this book will be enlightened! They will get to understand themselves, live the life they want and feel happy and content!
I visit in the Philippines and I can clearly see how this information is crucial to the health of the company and its employees! The reason why I think this is helpful for Filipinos is that we lack the system which caters to helping our employees choose what they want and empower them. The big companies also fail to provide this training which I think should be included in every management office and facilitated for the growth and happiness of each employee!
I think that this book will work as a guided course individually or as a team sharing course and then whatever they can figure out from this self-help information can be utilized to guide the employees who want to change careers or move up the ladder.
Having the health of the employees taken cared of first should be the priority, and once our very own Filipino system recognizes it then there will be better workers and inspired leaders willing to build a team from a balanced and peaceful approach. Thank you for sharing this book!
I love the guidelines set out from the book! From self-analysis, to knowing what type of work environment you want to work for, and then doing informational interviews about which job you think you will like. This book will ultimately help you to become the person you want to be- and so much more!
I support the vision of this book because I know that a lot of people may not have the right access to self-evaluation and learning about the "juice" of the job they like. There will be so many young professionals and fresh graduates who can benefit from the information of this book and even those who are already established in their field of expertise and yet feel that there is still something missing from the career that they have chosen!
I am an advocate of this wonderful piece of information and I am sure that a lot of people will also find this to be helpful for them. Check it out!
I believe that this book is most helpful for college students, young professionals and even middle aged adults looking to find what they really want for themselves!
I believe that if you read it, it will educate you about what a career means and what you should be doing in your life. I find this helpful because I know that a lot of people are stuck at the career of their choice. There is no joy, happiness and contentment and to live in a stagnant life with your career will disable you and will make you feel miserable. And so, I am grateful for this book, as it has shared so much great information on how to feel contentment and success in your decision.
It is a great book for some wonderful "insights of the self". Having to understand one's psychology is always beneficial to the growth and enhancement of people and what a great practice for it to be applied in the career of your choice.
A fitting title, with wonderful illustrations and a very effective workbook for the many people who aspire to build their own business, find happiness and contentment in their job and also find themselves in the process.
If you are looking to build yourself and your career, now is the chance! This book will teach you to understand what you are capable of, what you can do for the company and yourself and how you can be a success in the career choice that you make.
This is a book loaded with good "human resource" guidelines and I believe everyone should have the chance to read it and take it to heart. If people understand what they are looking for, satisfaction and contentment is easy. Furthermore, being equipped with this information empowers your life to be lived at your best.
This is a wonderful book! And I am glad that I was able to read it before executing my plans. Hope it helps anyone who needs some guidance with their career life!
A fantastic book that teaches people how to be happy and fulfilled with their career choice. It is also very engaging because it has a workbook that engages the readers to write down their strengths, weaknesses and also the things that they enjoy doing. If people pay attention and really take all the activities and advice found from this book to heart, they will realize what they had been missing out from their life and would pursue what they are really good at.
This is an empowering tool! As a mother I believe that my daughter will truly appreciate something that will guide her to becoming the person she wants to be in the career of her choice. I can't wait for her to start reading it and expose herself to the whole process of "figuring out yourself". I am excited at how this book will help her build a life that she will truly enjoy!
Impressive and a useful guided tool beneficial for those seeking happiness in their job.
I love this book because I believe that this will help a lot of people choose the best career for them. In addition, it includes a thorough self-help guide which is useful in getting to know yourself and choosing what you want based on that. Moreover, I believe what would make the book even more helpful is that it also mentions that this can be used every few years or so. Human beings are self-evolving, and we change over time. What we find to be our strength and weakness today may not be true anymore in 5 to 10 years’ time.
Nonetheless, this book is genius! I believe that a lot of people will benefit from it. A must read!
