Catching a sneaky poisoner, slaying a demonic doll, teaching a cooking class—and going on a date? One false move and Bobbi’s life is going to turn into a dumpster fire…
When a fellow witch from their coven decides to visit Devil’s Orchard, Bobbi’s thrilled to learn more about her own strange brand of fire magic. Until the magic lessons start and she soon realizes that this witch makes Granny look downright sane.
Bobbi’s own sanity is put to the test after her assistant chef Lily is accused of poisoning someone at the annual Easter egg hunt. Sure, Lily was the only one who had access to the woman’s food, but Bobbi knows she’s innocent, even if no one else in town believes her. She’ll need her wand and her wits to track down the real killer—especially when the investigation starts to unearth secrets that some people would kill to keep buried.
And to top it all off, Kitsune has now started eating… vegetables ?
Talk about a trial by fire…
Two Can Slay at This Game is a hilarious, full-length paranormal cozy mystery filled with magic, mockery, meals, murder, monsters, malfeasance, mouthy matrons and metaphysical meddling. And a recipe that Granny doesn't want you to see!
I loved it - with the continued development of Bobbi's powers, the extreme exercise workouts with Grant, and granny's meddling, I found myself cackling while listening to this third installment in the series.
The description of this book says it's a "paranormal cozy mystery filled with plenty of sass, snark, sarcasm, spells, snooping, snacks, spirits, and sleuthing," and y'all, that pretty much sums it up.
What I enjoyed: Bobbi and her grandmother's continued dynamic. These two had me tickled at their interactions. Bobbi continues to want to run a successful business, and Granny wants her to work on developing her powers. I also enjoyed Bobbi's developing relationship with Grant. It's clear these two will end up together at some point.
What else I enjoyed: the plot. Having Bobbi take over a cooking class sounded like it could go wrong fast; however, knowing that she was teaching recipes she knows Grant would not ever eat had me laughing. Bobbi knows her end game, even if she isn't aware of it just yet.
The mystery is engaging, the snooping is fun, and the spell casting can go awry as Bobbi continues to develop her powers, and to keep them a secret from those around her.
I experienced this as an audiobook, and that definitely enhanced the story.
This is going to appeal to those of you who enjoy Jessica Fletcher with a side of sarcasm, spells, and demon hunting.
When will Bobbi grow up and embrace her magic?? The more she practices and.learns, the more powerful she will be. And with Kitsuni being pregnant....Bobbi really needs to step up to the plate! I understand her resistance, but get over it! Plus, I think the bond w/her familiar will be stronger when she does.(by the way, familiars can boost the magic and help their witch. They ARE NOT butlers)
I highly recommend this magical book, and the series in which it is, to readers who love snarky grannies & critters, and a hard working witch doing the best she can. Enjoy!
