“The Rebound Effect” states that in order to get over your ex, you have to get under someone else. At least, that’s what Miles Bedford’s best friend keeps telling him.

So when he’s suddenly ricocheted back into the single life, Miles has one thing in mind. The plan is simple, and his intentions are clear. He’s not looking for love. But sometimes all it takes is one person, and one weekend, to change everything.

Ricochet is the debut release from new author Lore Ree. I’ve been a fan of her online work for a while, and when I got the chance to read and review an ARC copy of her novella, I jumped at the chance.

The story opens with Miles Bedford shopping for engagement rings for his fiance-to-be, and I have to say I loved the way the author described the visit to the jewelry store. It was so spot on from a male point of view that I found myself sniggering. And I think that’s the first thing I love about this book, the way she gets the tone so perfectly right. So often we read a male pov that sounds way too feminine, but with Miles, that certainly wasn’t the case. His words rang true, and that’s a testament to Lore Ree’s amazing ability to write.

I’m always nervous about giving too much away in a review–particularly for a novella–so I’m not going to outline too much of the story. Suffice it to say that Miles thinks he has it all worked out at the age of 25, but that life decides otherwise and throws a few curve balls his way. Along with his best friend Warren, girlfriend Ariana and new interest Noelle, we are taken on a fun, emotional ride as Miles learns that even the best laid plans can be derailed spectacularly.

As I said before, the writing is excellent, and the story is long enough to be fulfilling in a truly amusing and emotional way. It’s a fantastic debut novella, and I can’t wait to read more of Lore Ree’s stories. A five star read for me.

Miles Bedford is introduced trying to chose an engagement ring for his long term girlfriend, Arianne. His best friend, Warren is expressing his displeasure at Miles wanting to propose. It soon becomes clear that Warren is right about Ari. She up and dumps Miles, giving the most ridiculous argument.

What follows is Warren determined to get his boy back in the saddle and tells him about the “ricochet effect” – basically, have a rebound relationship/one night stand. Enter Noelle…

Without giving away too many spoilers, this novella is the perfect mixture of sweet and sexy. Miles and Noelle are drawn to each other time and time again, and their passion reads very realistic and believeable. Miles seemed like a completely different person around her compared to what we saw with Ari. He was much more ‘himself’ and real, his slight cockiness was able to run free which made him seem stronger in a way.

Noelle was a great character. She could almost be the girl next door, but get her dressed up and out on the down, she’s the wild child almost. Someone many girls wish they could be if they had the confidence.

All in all, this novella was a great, easy read. I think it could have worked just as well, if not better, as a full length novel which would have allowed the author to fully explore Ari and Miles’ relationship, Miles’ after the break-up, and eventually, miles’ and Noelle’s relationship in more detail.

A great debut!

Ricochet is a story about a second chance at love.

Miles Bedford thought he was ready to take the next and final step of his relationship with Ariana: marriage.

Fortunately for him he comes to his senses and sees that Ariana is not what he needs. His best friend is thrilled that he isn’t getting married and has a plan to get Myles back on his feet. “The Rebound Effect” states that in order to get over your ex, you have to get under someone else.

One night out, and Myles is ready to try out this theory. At a club he meets the sexy Noelle. They hit it off and have a night full of hot sex. Unfortunately the next day, neither one gets the other’s number and they lose touch for a while.

Both Myles and Noelle are hesitant to take a chance with one another, but together they compliment each other perfectly.

This was a quick, sweet read. I liked this story but I found the characters lacking emotion. I just wasn’t drawn to either character enough. This book was good for a debut novel.

This is a quick and quirky read that is based on Miles friend Warren’s theory of the Rebound effect…
“The Rebound Effect states: in order for you to get over someone, you need to get under someone else”
Miles was skeptical of his friend’s theory but decided what did he have to lose. He had been out of the dating scene for many years and had no idea what to expect.
After meeting Noelle, Miles thought this could be it, his rebound so that he could get on with his life. But the only problem it wasn’t just one night and things with different with Noelle.
The story is a good and quick read that shows what happens when you try to take your friends advice. Even though the advice didn’t work out as planned the end effect was a great story.

I loved it!! It was a sweet and an adorable read. Miles had just the right amount of cockiness and self doubt to make him real, like he could have been you best friend..now his best friend Warren, is a scene stealer and worth a few chuckles of his own...his ex, Ari, seems to have been just a comfort point or habit to him, basically a good excuse as to not being single..Arianna, to me, seemed, very self-important very me myself & I, type of girl, they didn't mesh, so I guess that's why she ended up being an ex.... Noelle... Now I love her :) a perfect mix of shy and spontaneous, basically his perfect match..
So long story short I loved it and a great quick read.

I must be in the minority because as much as I wanted to enjoy this novella, there seemed to be many, many curse words that really, really annoyed me.
Seriously, do people talk like that all the time? I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting old.

The story had promise, I just couldn't cope with the excess of cursing. Sad.

This is a really sweet and enjoyable read.

Miles friend tells him he needs to go out and find a rebound after being dumped by his girlfriend. This is the story of what happens when Miles takes his friends advice.

Really good read with no cliffhanger... Bliss :)
