Arleta Richardson was an author, librarian, and a teacher. The Grandma's Attic series was her most well known series. She was born in Flint, MI, and served in World War II. She belonged to the Free Methodist Church.

This one was different to the others, but I loved it so much! I love how Sarah Jane still gets Mabel out of trouble even now. And the new addition to the family was an unexpected surprise!
I especially liked the story involving Augusta and Jerome...and the eventual results.
And really - I love Len. The whole story left me feeling happy. I'm so excited for the next books!

A collection of delightful stories that you can learn by!

Mabel is nineteen, teaching another year at North Branch and preparing for her wedding! It’s a full year of unexpected surprises, mishaps and lessons.

Don’t miss this series. An oldie but a goodie!

Cleanliness: “Goodness” “mercy sake” and “for goodness sakes” are used. Courting and jealousy are main threads in this story. There is a hug or two, and a man mentions putting his arm around his fiancé. A lady tries to break up an engaged couple as she wants the man - she lets loose his horse and they are forced to stay in a city (separate boarding houses) until the next day.

5 stars. This feels like a continuation to A School of Her Own and I quite enjoyed it, even if it's not quite the best writing. I love the drama of the well; the tight-knit community; and the strong Christian messages—also the Gages + Augusta flooring Jerome with their Christian attitude! And the school, of course (even if Hannah apparently belongs to both the Alexander and Sawyer households, haha). It's also fun to see the Romanis appear again. This miscommunication bugged me but at least it's not long and it's well resolved. I look forwards to more stories set in this community!

I really liked this book! It is a Christian book and i really like it!

Again I can't really think of anything other to say about this book that I haven't already said about the others. It is wonderful. Mabel is still the friendly, doubting, slightly fearful, sweet girl we loved in all the other books, but now she is learning to trust the Lord and others for herself.
This one also has more of a complete story feel to it than some of the earlier books. Each chapter contains its own little drama, but the plotline through the chapters is much more cohesive. This one deals with the temptations of secrets and greed. Still, it has the sweet faith-filled family tones as the earlier ones. Just now we get to see those same Biblical principles applied to more grown-up problems.

Book seven of the 10-book series. This is a sweet, quick read. This one is a bit weaker than the previous two books in that the main plot thread is not as strong, and she seems to revisit the same points to stretch it out. The cute ending sounds like a great story told over and over within the author's family and is very sweet.

I know these books aren’t great literature, but they are the comfiest of comfort books for me—right up there with L. M. Montgomery, as far as comfort level goes. This entire series gets 4.5 stars from me, regardless of its literary merit (except for Sixteen and Away From Home which gets 5 stars because I love that book SO MUCH).

I think this is the best book of the series thus far. It’s less focused on messaging and more focused on story. The central conflict is interesting and it makes me want to learn more about Michigan history! I am going to keep repeating that these books all have similarities to the Anne of Green Gables series that feel oddly spot-on. But I’m enjoying the re-read, nevertheless.

Loved this reread! Mabel, Len, Sarah Jane, Augusta, and so many others including some new folks all bring such a fun cast to this story! No, not everyone is great, and not everything is easy. That postcard from Pa had me chuckling, as did the final scene. I love how things do work out even in ways Mabel least expected. A good reminder that God works in mysterious ways.

Much less tense than the previous book in the series. The kids and I enjoyed it, and they were caught up in the suspense of whether Mabel's new sibling would be a boy or a girl!
