Sarah Pain writes filthy-sweet stories about bad boys and sexy girls. As a thirty-something mom who is ridiculously in love with her own bearded hottie, she believes in love-at-first-sight and happily-ever-afters. She also believes in the power of a quickie.
A challenging book for me to rate. It’s a dark story with not much character development. There is more story than sex, but there is so little communication between the couple it’s hard to get any sense that they have a real relationship.
They get to a bad place over something they can’t even remember. They are as ham handed as possible in trying to resolve the issue and get out of a predicament they get into. The outcome for the bad guy(s) is pretty gruesome fellas. I wouldn’t share this book with anyone who in the future might get really mad at you.
I’m not going to reread this book; I don’t think there was a single laugh in it.
I feel the book is written on the level of a teenager, and the couple acts like they’re teenagers. And for me, most importantly, there’s no examination of their relationship.
I’ll try another of this author’s books and see how it goes.
Follow-on - having read a second book (The Sailing Trip) I’d say: I think this author has talent. The premises for her stories are interesting. I believe she needs to think a lot more about the characters and let us know what they are thinking and how they are feeling, particularly between husbands and wives. It’s especially important if the couple is going to manage the outcome of an affair.
