People call him Hades. He is like the dark prince himself: enigmatic, mysterious, and dangerous. Nobody knows his real name. Nobody knows anything about him. He has been cursed to lead his life in loneliness, because everyone who's ever been close to him very soon died.

Eloise Gunning is hard-working and practical. She helps her brother with his work, keeps to herself, and is set to marry a safe, decent young man. Her entire life is planned out. Suddenly, her world tilts on its axis when she is kidnapped and confined in the lair of the beastly man. Nothing is as it seems in this strange place, especially not its owner. Eloise cannot deny her attraction to the dark and powerful man, nor the pull of his irresistible kisses.

As their bond strengthens, the world around them begins to crumble, forcing them to wonder: is the curse real? And can they break it before it's too late?

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Will they be able to see past their fears and misconceptions…

After the two previous books, I first expected the next one to be about one of the previous heroines’ friends.
But the end of the last book pointed to an other path for this one.
The prologue is heart-wrenching, the horror Keyon went through, it is still a miracle he has some humanity left in him.
There could not have been more two different persons than those two.
The king of hell, a man who robbed, killed and threatened to become the perfect picture of his moniker. When inside he is still this little boy who went through one nightmarish trial after another, to finally rise from the ashes of his innocence as the devil himself. And whatever curse is set to be hanging over him, he is a man who feels, cares and protects even if revenge and justice are his actual journey.
Eloise is an innocent, sheltered all her life, never allowed to venture outside nor make her own choices and mistakes. She is at first only a pawn in a game larger than her. But quickly she proves there is more to her than the safeguarded woman she had been all her life. Sure her own misconstrued opinions built on lack of knowledge about what chalenge life can throw on someone path made her appear as haughty, better than the people living in Hades’ mansion. But she is no contemptuous young woman, she slowly opens her heart to the motley crowd sharing her temporary roof. Revising everything she thought about right or wrong, good or bad.

I loved this book, away from the ballrooms and ton’s parties, with only commoners as protagonists. The authors offers us a formidable tale of resilience, acceptance and forgiveness. Keyon and Eloise are flawed larger than life characters, with a heart big enough to embrace them whole, for Eloise to love Keyon whatever his past and misdeeds and Keyon to risk his chest organ once more because without her he will never be complete again.

Ahhh the smell of desperation…

Every character in this book was desperate. Desperate for redemption. Desperation for freedom. Desperate for love. Desperate for empathy. It was all very...desperate.

I feel like I should have read book 1 and 2 because I was a bit lost. I went into this with the understanding that it was standalone, but it didn’t read like one. Anyway, when you feel like you’ve been dropped into the middle of a story you don’t get to connect and grow with the characters. You lose that intimacy that starts as a little seed and then blooms as the story progresses. I did not connect to these characters, therefor I didn't care what happened to them. I got all the way to the 70% mark and suddenly realized I was wasting my time and I could happily walk away from these characters and never know their ending. Not good.

I also have a bit of a problem when an author gets sloppy with the lingo. Don’t give me historical romances with contemporary dialect.

This is an emotional story that pulled at me right from the first page. The author does a great job developing her characters as well as the story line. She paints her scenes in vivid detail and bringing all the feels with Keyon's(Hades) pain from a small child up to the grown man. It's a dark story with Eloise giving him hope, understanding and love as they come to know and love one another. It's well written, moves fluidly and is a terrific read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Stockholm syndrome X Beauty and The beast X Hades and Persephone story:

Hades is the king of the underworld brothels of London. He's a criminal who harbors other criminals and let them live in dignity. Whores are not coerced or raped and men are like an army rather than thugs.

When Hades's sister was murdered he kidnapped the sister of the investigator who failed to find the culprit. He was instantly enamored with Eloise but thought she's too innocent for him.
The rest is history as they say!

What a way to kick off the 2025!
I finished this book in just one day, and as my first read by Sadie, it definitely won’t be my last.

After a string of lackluster reads, Hades and Eloise was exactly what I needed—an emotional, gripping, and utterly “yummy” story. The prologue hooked me right away, leaving me teary-eyed before I even reached chapter one. From there, I knew I was in for a good ride.

Hades’ backstory was heartbreaking but necessary to understand the man he had become. His traumatic upbringing shaped him into the hardened owner of a gambling hell, guarding himself with an impenetrable exterior. A prophecy from a gypsy woman when he was young declared that every woman he loved would die, leaving him broken. To protect himself and others, Hades vowed never to love.

That resolve falters when he saves a young girl, Ava, and comes to love her like a sister—until tragedy strikes and the prophecy is fulfilled. Devastated and bent on revenge, Hades will stop at nothing to find Ava’s killer. But his plans take an unexpected turn when he kidnaps Eloise, the sister of a thief-taker determined to stop him.

Eloise is everything Hades is not: sheltered, kind, and full of dreams inspired by the books she devours. Kidnapped and confused as to why anyone would want her, she finds herself locked in Hades’ casino. As the days pass, she befriends the staff and begins to see beyond Hades’ icy exterior.

What Eloise doesn’t know is that Hades already knew who she was before he took her—and despite his best efforts to resist, he wants her. Torn between his desire for her and his fear of the prophecy, Hades is forced to confront his past and his heart.

I loved watching Eloise soften Hades and seeing him become completely obsessed with her. Their chemistry was everything, and it was so satisfying to watch him fall for her despite his fears.

Sigh. What a perfect way to start 2025. I can’t wait to read more from Sadie!

Eloise Gunning cannot believe her bad luck: she’s always been sheltered by her brother and has lived a dull life so far, and the one time she tries to sneak out of her house to have some fun she’s kidnapped by a criminal! It’s preposterous! But she’s a practical, sensible girl and she’ll surely find a way to escape… But will she want to when her captor is a mysterious, handsome and charismatic man who intrigues her a little too much?
Hades is the king of the underworld. He has risen from the gutter overcoming a difficult past and established a thriving gaming hell. But he’s condemned to be alone because everyone he loves dies. And so beautiful, sweet and determined Eloise must be kept at arm’s length…
I must confess I’m always partial to a broken, scarred hero, so I loved Hades with all my heart. The author did a great job at portraying a man who’s suffered the greatest abuse a person can suffer (beware of some triggers for abuse and violence!) and is trying every day to overcome his painful past and become a better man. Eloise is an endearing character, strong and surprisingly open-minded despite her upbringing. I also liked the side characters quite a lot and I hope to see more of them in the upcoming books of the series. This was my first book of Sadie Bosque, but I’ll make sure that it won’t be the last, because she’s really a talented writer.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Trigger Warning.
This work of fiction contains adult content, strong language, violence, death, bullying, nightmares, abuse, and other content that might be triggering to some.
Curse of The Wicked Scoundrel, by Sadie Bosque. I enjoyed the give and take arrangement between Eloise and Hades. I think that their relationship is what has kept the entertainment going for me in the book. I would like to thank the author in regards to keeping the book an easy read. This made the book more enjoyable for me to read.
The mystery and reason why Eloise was kept away in the home sort of played out long for me. I would of like to see Hades working behind the scenes early in the book while Eloise did her exploring. The dialogue was simple and understanding among the characters, which also helped with the book being easy to read. I thought that the kindling raw emotions between Eloise and Hades was smoldering. The romance was a slow one for me, but I loved the happily ever after for them.
The description of the scenes and the many details in the book provided me with visualizations that were great. I liked the excitement and the entertainment of the book. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

I just discovered Sadie Bosque and am enjoying The Shadows series. In this book I liked the way she explained Hades AKA Keyon's childhood struggles. He is a main character in the other books and I wondered what happened to him. I like when characters that are physically and emotionally scared like Hades find love and redemption. He did not change and stop being a criminal, but found the love of his life in Eloise. Ms. Bosque reveals all the flaws of her characters and writes very raw and realistic stories. Plan to read her other books in the future.

This is the third book in the authors Shadows series and centres around Hades and Eloise. Hades, aka Keyon, is the owner of a gambling hell and most well-known criminal in all of London, a life he earned through many dastardly deeds but really is just someone who suffered a lot of trauma very young and did what he thought he needed to survive in a world that cares little for those on the edges of society. Having read the first two books in the series I was so excited when I heard we would be getting a book focussed on Hades. He intrigued me from the start, and I loved the way this story explored his past and how his life has shaped him.

Eloise Gunning is our heroine, and she is the sister of a thief taker who has lived a life controlled and contained by her brother and she learns a lot throughout this story. I really loved Eloise, she was bold, compassionate, real and I loved that she actually listened to those around her and learnt with open mind and heart about a world she was taught to judge and scorn.

Eloise is kidnapped by Hades men and brought to his mansion for safe keeping. She is used as the incentive to make her brother do what Hades wants – which is to find his sister’s murderer. Eloise is a guest of the house and gets a lot of free rein, she has a rather good time learning about the people who live in the mansion and exploring the life there. And of course, she spends time getting to know Hades who can’t seem to keep away from her.

They are drawn together, and I adored their romance story. Hades had a traumatic past (I would read the trigger warnings before starting!) and seeing Eloise help him through it and continuously be open and gentle and slow with him was so beautiful. And of course, we get some deliciously steamy scenes! It was everything I was hoping from a story with a main character named after Hades and so much more.

The overall plot of Eloise’s forced stay at the mansion and Hades quest for vengeance against his sisters’ murderer was interesting and kept the story moving forward. I loved the setting of the mansion and seeing Eloise slowly become a part of it was great. The mansion and the characters were such a change from high society parties and drawing rooms, it was just so fun! I adored everyone and sped through the book, as always, Bosque has written another truly captivating story full of romance, tenderness, danger, intrigue, and explosive endings.

Hades/Keyon & Eloise. When his sister was murdered (book 2) the thief-taker promised that he would find the murderer. Hades kidnapped his sister as leverage for him to find the killer. She is held in Hades' mansion (attached to the gaming hell and home to various ladies of the evening and other ruffians). She is guarded by 2 men and only Verity (a house harlot) is allowed to bring her food and spend any time with her. Bored after a few days she starts breaking a bunch of stuff having Hades show up to find out what the problem is. She wants to be able to roam freely about the mansion. He agrees but he was trying to protect her from the other people in the house (she's innocent and they are criminals and whores). He bets her that she won't last 48 hours with the members of the house. The first night things get crazy. She's eating with the other ladies and Verity. Some men are drunk and celebrating (every night is a celebration there) and ask her to dance. Not wanting to lose the bet she agrees but they become a little to handsy with her and Hades shows up and shuts down the celebration and warns everyone to not touch her. She still spends time with the people in the house and reads (with voices) to some of the ladies and her guards. Ava (Hades' sister that was murdered) used to read to him and he asks her to read to him after they finished the story they were reading. He ends up kissing her but won't let it go further. The hell is raided and there was a fire. In the aftermath, she helps to clean up and suture all the injured men. After all night of doing that, she returns to her room, and starts cleaning up the blood on her clothes and body. Hades shows up HAMMERED (he never drinks) but after seeing what happened he decided to get drunk. She sees that he needs his hand sutured and she helps him to his room, cleans him up and helps him clean up (bathe). She wants him but he feels like he cursed and everyone he loves ends up dying (his mother, sister) so instead of actually having sex he wants to watch her pleasure herself while he takes care of himself. He buys her fancy gowns and wants her but trying to keep her at bay. He shares with her his life history (his dad murdered his mother/mistress because she got pregnant again, he was sold to a brothel at 5, he is considered pretty and decides to cut/scar his face, he lives with a Romni clan, then a highwayman robbing, then kills bad people and builds his empire). Her touch is the only touch that doesn't make him feel dirty and ashamed. She wants him and give herself to him. He wants her to choose to stay with him even when her brother fulfills his promise. Her brother comes for her and she leaves with him but knows she wants to be with Hades. One of her guards (Sal) who loved his sister ends up being the one who took her to the masquerade and killed her (no clue why). He also passed info to the shadows that raided and shut down his business dealings. He takes Eloise but ends up getting killed anyways. Her brother comes for her but she tells him that she loves Hades and that she's going to be with him. She wants his blessing even though the criminal and thief-taker are enemies because she wants both in her life. I really enjoyed this book. The author didn't mind going dark with his history but it explains a lot about why he didn't like being touched and how Eloise was special. plus you gotta love an innocent and criminal's passion for each other.

This was a steamy, emotional & dark tale - it vividly replays our hero, Keyon/Hades' young life full of pain & being a sex slave for men plus his personal loneliness growing up without love.

Eloise Gunning is the sister of a thief-taker, Ford Gunning. One day she was taken from his house, a burlap bag place over her head & deposited at Hades' hell as a guest/prisoner.

When Keyon/Hades & Eloise meet - she is not afraid of him & lets him know that fact & he is confused & amazed at her bravery. They spend time together & things heat up but there is danger, the curse & traitors to contend with.

I really enjoyed this book & it had all the elements that work for me - well-written, good pace, interesting story, lovable characters & most of all, it left me smiling & happy after I read "The End". I don't go over the story in my review because it's cheating the reader but let me say that the story grabs your interest immediately & keeps you quickly turning pages until the HEA Epilogue.

Hades Aka Keyon had is precious childhood story stolen from him as a baby. What evil sick monsters preyed on him and other defenseless children. The tears wouldn’t stop.
Eloise has led a very sheltered life as a sister of the thief takers. She is newly engaged as another precaution her brother thinks is necessary!?
But he is certainly not who her brother thinks he is? Can’t keep his pants zipped as is common for men of that era to visit brothels and want a “pure” wife!!
Because of the brutality Keyon experienced he did not want to be touched until Eloise but they both have secrets and their is a vile traitor in their midst who murdered young Ava Keyon beloved sister.
It was supposed to be revenge for her brother Ford not finding the real killer but oh it slowly turned into so much more!
Each were able to see beneath the scars physical and emotional of the other! This story was raw, gritty emotional and violent at times! It is not for the faint of heart! It is not sunshine and flowers but it does have a HEA that will leave you reeling!! Bravo!

Wow! Perspective is everything! Grief stricken over the death of his sister, Hades kidnapped Eloise in order to entice her brother, a thief-taker, to find his sister’s killer. Eloise found herself in a world that frightened her, until she put aside her preconceptions and opened her mind and heart. Things were no longer black and white, and she found she enjoyed the grey. She and Hades even developed a reporte. Hades has appeared previously in this series, and this book shed a whole new light on his character. The horrors that he endured are unforgivable and heartbreaking. I found this book hard to put down. It contains action, betrayal, surprises, emtions and lots of steam. It is very well done!

An intriguing and unique romance that seems to start with hatred and end with love.
Completely different from the usual historical stories I've read but I loved the plot and the very dangerous master of the mansion.
Eloise is a strong and determined woman who is perfect for this cursed man.
They seem to fit together like jigsaw pieces and I was awed by their building connection.
Keyon's past is traumatic and raw which makes you consider how it shaped him but Eloise seems to be the balm for his heart.
Inside this apparent monster is so much more ahd I found this read to be powerful in its delivery.
There are emotional moments that touched my heart and some which wrecked it.
I am amazed by the talent behind this unexpected success and can only implore more to read this intense romance.

An Enjoyable Beauty and the Beast Style Romance

I really enjoyed Eloise and Keyon's story. Having a heroine who is not from an aristocratic family and who doesn't aim for such a life was actually quite refreshing. While Eloise still had her ideas of what was appropriate, I feel that her acceptance of different realities was more believable because she was not aristocratic. Keyon's heartbreaking past (that might need a trigger warning for some readers) and the related reactions he had as an adult were also handled well. My only real complaint was some continuity and editing issues that went hand-in-hand. They were a bit distracting and happened on several occasions. Otherwise I look forward to continuing the series.

Excellent from start to finish.
Welcome to hell and Hades will be your guide and tormentor. Before he became Hades his life was horrible cruel evil people surrounding him, took from him that is until he took from the evil. They called him evil yet this is not an evil characters. I truly admired this character and Eloise was much stronger than people gave her credit for and I liked her a great deal too. This is a complex story and it is written in such a splendid manner. I am so glad I took the time read this book and I highly recommend it. Warning: many, many triggers in this book. It would be easy to assume that child trafficking and forced prostitution were not common during the Victorian era. It was sickening to realize that one's title essentially gave them a license for debauchery without consequence in many cases. The H was a former child prostitute trafficked by criminals. He fortunately survived and became a force to be reckoned with in a chaotic world. He championed the victims while brutally using and dealing with the noble criminals. He was a criminal but did not force anyone into his world. He kidnapped the sister of a thief taker in order to force his assistance in finding the killer for his own sister. She however, tames him and neither of their worlds would ever be the same.

Wow! This story grips you from the beginning and doesn’t let go. A very dark beginning, this young boy suffers such extreme atrocities it’s painful to read at times , and understandable how he grew up to be Hades himself.
Believing to be under a curse, he never allows anyone to touch him, or come close to him…. Until Eloise , a pawn in the scheme of things, kidnapped and brought to the Hell. She is his complete opposite, innocent and sheltered. But she will accomplish the impossible finding that broken little boy inside. An incredible storyline, with awesome characters and superb writing!

Eloise was collateral damage in Hades' quest for revenge for the death of his "sister."

However, Eloise's brother was not really the culprit. He was coerced, however, to find out who was.

Meanwhile, Eloise decides to make the best of her bad situation and learn how the other half lived and survived from their early years of abuse and poverty.

Thus, begins an interesting friendship with Hades' ragtag "family" and with the "Scoundrel" himself, as Eloise names him.

It was good to find out who the actual villain was in Ava's death.

The third book in the Shadows series a story that kept me turning pages, I was not putting the book down until I was finished. Eloise Gunning and Keyon or Hades as he is called story. She’s sheltered and protected but headstrong and curious. Looking for an adventure and gets way more than she bargained for when she is kidnapped by the last man her brother wants her meeting. He’s jaded, scarred and out for revenge. The last thing he’s looking for is her!

Bad boy with a heart of gold? Good girl with a taste for the forbidden? What could possibly happen? I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure with all its twists and turns. Look forward to reading more in this series!

A Persephone for hades

I absolutely adore Eloise and the attraction between her and Hades was palpable. I was happy that the story of Hades and Persephone was tied into Eloise and Keyon's love story, I had always enjoyed the story and loved this one even more for it. I could hardly put this book down and found myself enveloped in their story, always needing to know more, and the way Sadie Bosque weaves this story is sooo good! On my way to read the 4th!

Many emotions in this book

Heartbreaking and painful to read in several places but a lot of healing happened through compassion, love and understanding. I loved this book. The heart of “the Scoundrel” is very precious and sweet. I love how the author brings in important real issues of life to her stories as well as the adventure, fun, sexual and romance. She includes everything. There’s always a good story and it’s not just about the sex scenes. I loved this couple.

This book got me hooked from the start. Keyon truly has been through hell and deserves his moniker… This man has suffered every possible pain in life. I really like the way the characters were developed and how their story evolved. I was afraid of another glorified Stockholm’s syndrome, but Eloise is made of much sterner stuff! A very good sizzling story.

Absolutely love this book. I can't stop reading and re reading. Pulled my heart to see abuse from a man's perspective and how he has dealt with it and finding unconditional love. Eloise was so much beautiful. This is definitely my favourite version of beauty and the beast! Thank you sadie I don't think I have loved a hero this much.
