Apollo the alpaca and Lucy the llama are friends. When they have a misunderstanding, Apollo feels hurt and angry. At first his other friends don't sympathize with him, which makes him even more upset, but fortunately he finds a mentor who is able to help. Apollo learns how to deal with misunderstandings in a mature way, and he and Lucy are able to maintain their friendship.
The book teaches how to use deep breathing as a tool to calm down and shows how we can change our negative emotions to achieve a positive result.
The rhyming text and appealing illustrations make this story fun to read. I especially appreciated the photos of the author and the alpaca at the beginning of the book, which connect the story to the real world, as well as the Internet link to the farm where Apollo the alpaca lives.
I received an electronic copy from the author through Story Monsters Press. Readers see Apollo the alpaca get angry after a friend accidentally bumps him. Other friends try to help but all they say is "Alpacas don't get angry." Finally, someone listens to him and affirms his emotions. The farmer then offers some tips for calming his mood and getting control of his emotions. Terrific book to read as a family to help young readers learn to calm their bodies and recognize their strong emotions. It can also be used as a starting point for discussion about why denying emotions is not healthy. The illustrations capture the characters' expressions so readers have visual cues to match the text.
Apollo the alpaca has been done wrong by one of his friends! When he expresses his feelings and expects an apology, no one takes him seriously. Apollo becomes more and more angry, and he doesn't know what to do.

A beautiful picture book with colourful illustrations that will teach children about anger management in a fun and humorous way!
There are many anger management books out there, but this is a gem. It does not minimize a child's right to feel angry. Instead, it focuses on calming down, then addressing the cause. I'm no expert, but we can all learn from that lesson. The rhyming phrases and cute illustrations will help your child absorb the message without even realizing they are being taught. Highly recommended.
For kids of all ages on what it takes to cool that head when others heat you up. Cute illustrations help the story along as well. Use this on my little ones who act like storms whenever they are angry. Find the strategy that works before more damage is done. Great lesson from Tammy Fortune.
Alpacas CAN get angry! Who knew? Tammy Fortune’s story about Apollo the Alpaca and his anger management issue is inspiring. As is Farmer Joe’s solution. The rhythm of the lines sometimes feels a little off, but I’m sure the children won’t even notice. And Joanna Jarc Robinson’s illustrations are bright and fun.
I would recommend to anyone with a mini hot head . Fun read, really entertaining for the wee one for he has a few things in common with this alpaca....👌😊🤦♀️
Such a cute book about anger management. Kids experience big feelings and have big reactions. It is important to all of us to feel heard and understood. The farmer is the only one to validate Appollo’s experience. He teaches him breathing techniques to manage the big angry feelings. He also teaches him to talk it out with the person responsible in a calm way. The alpaca and his friends on the farm are beautifully illustrated and lively bold and colourful text emphasizes his mood perfectly.
