Jake and Micah met at eighteen and formed a deep connection the instant they saw each other. That was the easy part.
Nothing Like Forever is a soul mates-to-partners, can't-live-with-him/can't-live-without-him unconventional love story in which Jake doesn't want romance or a happily-ever-after, and Micah wants it all. With Jake. For twenty years they’ve been in and out of each other’s lives trying to get it right. They fail, retreat, disappear from each other’s lives for years at a time, and then fate (or a friend’s wedding) brings them back together for another attempt at making it work. Their connection always runs deep, but no matter what it takes for them to stay together, one thing’s these guys have a unique path to finding their HEA, and when they get there, it might not look the way either of them expect.
This novel is about learning what you can and can’t expect from your partner and what you can and can’t accept for yourself in a relationship, what lines you’re willing to cross, what compromises you’re willing to make, and where you have to stay true to who you are no matter how you feel about the other person. It features an aromantic MC and a guaranteed HEA that’s as unique as these two men and the journey it takes them to find forever.
Trigger this novel has mentions of alcoholism and dementia. It also features MCs who are consensually non-monogamous, but there are no on-page depictions of Jake and Micah with anyone except each other.
I liked that Nothing Like Forever was the story of two people trying to make sense of their connection and find a way to be in each other's life that would work for both of them.
Through trial and error, through many years of silences, through heartbreak, miscommunication, and chance encounters they fought their way toward each other.
They were good together, there's no denying that. They fit together and if they took the time to actually talk about what they wanted from their relationship or friendship or connection or whatever other word they felt was right for them, they could have saved themselves many moments of hurt.
The biggest issue, as I understood it, was Jake's belief that everything should fit under a label and that there was only one way to have a relationship and that was it. For the majority of the book he stubbornly refused any closer connection with Micah no matter how much he wanted it too.
It took him many many many years to finally do some research and find a label that fit him. I can understand his need for a label but I can't understand his refusal to search for one sooner since he wanted to have a name for what he felt for Micah and what he felt in general. There are people who prefer not to fall under any label, they're just themselves and they feel how they feel. Jake wasn't one of them, he wanted to fit somewhere and once he found a word that seemed to fit him, everything became easier for him to accept. I just wish he had taken the time earlier to do his research.
Micah was a fitting partner for Jake. Aside from their first go around when they were nineteen, all the other times they wanted the same things. Maybe Micah had the words for what he was feeling and knew Jake was his person a lot sooner than Jake figured it out, but their arrangement worked for them both. Micah liked his job and his travels and didn't want to be tied down just yet so what he had with Jake worked perfectly for him. Also, he accepted Jake and any limits he had without another thought and without resentment. He was independent, but he liked having a base to call home. Especially if that base was at Jake's home.
Their history throughout the years made them stronger and both of them recognized that there was something unique in the bond they shared. Even before Jake made sense of what he was feeling and what he wanted from Micah, he realized that what he had with him was something special. Micah knew early on what he felt for Jake and it didn't change no matter how many years they were apart or how many times they had a falling out.
I liked Jake and Micah's story, I just wish Jake wasn't so hung up on the words used to describe them. They had been in a relationship for years but because be didn't experience the feelings he heard other people describe or saw depicted in romantic movies he rejected the idea and refused to even say the word. But relationships can take many forms and each one is different and unique.
Anyway. I liked this different story, stubborn characters and all. It's not everyday you see an aromantic main character in a romance book, and this one definitely deserves a look.
Be aware that the characters aren't monogamous but if that's not a total dealbreaker for you in a story, don't let it scare you away from reading this.
Big fan of Marie Sinclair, but try as I might, I couldn't struggle any further than 30% of the way through this one.
Up until the 30% mark, Nothing Like Forever was nothing but a rehash of events told previously - and better - in her earlier works. To make matters even less satisfying, each chapter seemed to have been divided into 20% story line and 80% gratuitous descriptions of sex.
It's a real shame because Sinclair is a very talented author.
After falling in love with this author's first book, A Kind of Forever, I was eager to see if the follow-up was as good.
It is. I was not disappointed.
There are trigger warnings, though, so please heed them. Those of you who need a couple to be only with each other from the beginning of the book to the end should probably skip this one, unless you can understand that Jake and Micah have a consensually non-monogamous relationship. There's no sex with other partners on page, and no deep emotional ties to anyone else, but they do have other partners during the span of the book.
Translated? They have an on-again, off-again relationship because reasons. When they're on, they're ON, when they're off, they're...not on. The tie between the two men is obvious from the beginning, and it's what holds the book together. If you read the prequel, the short Nothing Like a Summer Romance, some of this will be familiar to you.
The book spans 20 years from when they meet at 18. Told in third-person, past tense with dual POV, it's beautifully written. I fell deeply in love with both of these scarred men. It's also smoking hot, with sex scenes that will melt your electronic device. When I finished, I felt like I'd been on a journey with the pair.
While you don't have to have read A Kind of Forever or Nothing Like a Summer Romance to enjoy this book, I recommend at least the first book because it's also brilliantly written.
What a rollercoaster this was. Micah and Jake, 20 years in the making. And what a journey they went through… ❤️❤️❤️
If you've read the prequel to this book (Nothing like a summer romance), you will recognise a couple of chapters at the beginning of this book. I must admit that it bothered me as I was reading them, thinking that the author might include a great part of the sequel into this book - but fear not. It's only two or three chapters which happen to be very important to the narrative and the understanding of the development of Micah & Jake's story.
So for most of the book I wasn't sure whether to feel sorry or hate Jake - yeah, yeah, he is always very upfront about this rules and "feelings" (or lack thereof) to Micah and everyone else. But at the same you can see how much his background affected and influenced him and his behaviour. But love him, hate him, or pity him, you can't help but feel a pull to him and his story, and the reasons why he is how he is. And towards the end of the book we find a piece of that puzzle, through Jake's conversations with his friends and colleagues - we finally discover that he is possibly aromantic. But I absolutely loved how he had finally opened and allowed himself to have those conversations because he realised that what he had with Micah was special even if he couldn't say I love you.
And Micah... sigh... Same as with Jake, for a lot of the book I wasn't sure whether to pity him or not. Because you can so easily see how Jake's behaviour when they were younger damaged him, affected him to the core. Influencing almost every decision he made. And for me that was reason to pity and to feel sorry for him. Because we had seen what a free spirit he was when he first met Jake. Yes, with his family issues as well, but when he liberated and let himself go in the arms of Jake, he became such a free guy - an image that I pictured in the dance he did for Jake at the beach.
So yeah, Micah and Jake's story is not like any story that I've read before. They work differently to other romance couples. Their dynamic is odd, but works for them. They never label or discuss their "relationship" (and Jake can deny it all he wants, but they had been in a relationship since the beginning, or at least since Alex's wedding) and they are both happy to live their own lives, have their affairs, Micah even has serious relationships, but Micah is always waiting for Jake, so none of those work out.
I was so emotional during both episodes where Jake and Micah need the support of each other. With Micah's injury and with Jake's situation with his dad. They were each other's rock. They were each other's support. For the big things and the small things. And it was just so beautiful to see the love for each other - even if they were not saying those words to each other.
Do you know how sometimes the first kiss in a story is the best part, that suspense, the wanting, that will lead into more? Well, fuck me sideways but the first kiss of Micah and Jake made me gasp out loud (actually, it was the second kiss, not the first drunken one). It doesn't matter how many firsts they had had together. Every sexual first that Micah had was with Jake and it was so beautiful. But at 38 years old neither of them had ever kissed anyone, and it was so fucking sad. So when that kiss finally comes towards the end of the book, it felt so CLIMATIC, so momentous, that any sex that they've had before pales in comparison.
Something else I loved seeing was a small appearance of Cart and Sam. If you've read Book 1 in this series (which I would totally recommend if you haven't) you know that Cart had been married to Sam but died. We only have a very small window of Cart and Sam being together and happy, but I still loved it. And then, when Ry makes and appearance, wow, loved seeing Ry and Jake talking- and it just made me reminisce of that book and its prequel that I loved so much.
So yeah, totally recommend this gorgeous -if also slightly painful to read- book to anyone. Mind the warnings at the beginning, though. The kind of relationship they have may not be for everyone. But for me, this story was just *chefs kiss*

This is the second in the series and I highly recommend this series. This story grabbed me from the beginning and held me to the end. I have book hangover from it. It is just that strong emotionally. I don’t know if I can do justice to a review. This spans the life of two guys for about 20 years. They are soulmates but not able to really get it together. They get together, get apart, get together and so on until my heart broke for both of them. Jake has had nothing to relate to as a happy relationship. He meets Micah and the two have this attraction that won’t let them stay separated yet won’t let me be together. They go through other hook ups. They go through tried relationships. They go through trying to be together. All the reasons they can’t work it out made me want to scream. When this book ended, I feel I want more from these two. What does Jake do about his mom and brother? How does everyday life affect them on going. This is one of those books I would never want to be done with the characters. Thank you GRR for introducing me to this author.
This book was hard to read, but SO powerful. I spent the whole book worried Jake was going to break Micah’s heart in the end. That is…not what happened. This is a book about a love that stands the test of time, even while being undefined for almost 20 years. It makes you think differently about what love is, and what relationships look like. I especially liked the idea that LGBTQIA relationships can transcend the heteronormative framework we are taught is the “right” way to have a relationship. Recommended! (I didn’t give it 5 stars only because is was so stressful to read expecting the worst!)
Nothing Like Forever is absolutely gorgeous. Micah and Jake have such a complicated relationship. They’re well-developed characters with incredible chemistry who in some ways understand each other so well but struggle with each other’s expectations. Sinclair paints such a vivid picture of their friendship over a twenty year span and really takes the reader on an emotional journey that shows that love isn’t one size fits all. I adored this book!
Jake is not aromantic. He does feel romantic love, however, he admits he only has those feelings for Micah. That is demiromantic not aromantic. He states that he can't have romantic feelings for anyone as he has never been taught or shown an example of love. Ummmmm....that is not aromantic. That is childhood trauma. Micah is really nothing more than a BFWB. Well, and a doormat for Jake to rub his nastiness all over.
I think I'd have enjoyed this story more if Micah had finally given up on Jake and fell in love with someone else. That eventually Jake realizes he is a twat who needs therapy and used Micah. Then, and only many years after, they have their second chance when Micah is single again.
This book is nothing more than gratuitous sex scenes, a commitment phobe who has never dealt with his childhood trauma so claims to be aromantic in order to explain away his crap behavior for over 20 years towards the spineless doormat BFF. Disappointed.
A very angsty, painful to read story as we travel through the years of Jake and Micah's on and off again friendship. Micah loves Jake, always has, but Jake wants no relationship at all, only hook ups. This is a tough read, raw and at times brutal, your heart will ache for Micah. But this is also an absolutely stunning tale, it's long but you get sucked in so deep the pages fly by. The ending made me sit a stare at a blank page, I didn't want it to be over, these two men where so addictive.
Wow. This book really put me through all the emotions. I found myself really uncomfortable with Jake and Micah but I could not stop reading. Jake was such a complicated character and this book really did make me think of their relationship in a different way. this book was an excellent thought-provoking albeit untraditional view of a relationship.
Words cannot describe my love for this book. Jake and Micah are possibly my favorite couple that I've read in awhile, simply because they are so different from other couples in the genre and the reason for that is incredibly simple: Jake is aromantic. This means that the relationship we watch unfold on this book - set over twenty years - is not going to look exactly the same as relationships we've seen in other books and it is beautiful. It is a beautiful story of another way that a relationship can unfold outside of the confines of heteronormativity. It also gives a gorgeous piece of aro rep that I've never actually seen in the romance genre.
As mentioned, this book is set over the course of twenty years. It starts with Jake and Micah's first meeting at the age of eighteen and the instantaneous connection between them. It is a connection that neither boy understands but that keeps them bound together over the course of the following two decades. It is the red string of fate, even if neither of them refer to it as such.
Sinclair takes us through the most developmental parts of their relationship over the next two decades until we finally land in the present day. We watch as they grow apart and come together, never fully done with one another. We see the way their love presents, even when Jake doesn't feel romantic love for Micah. And in seeing it, we see a distinctly unique love story full of firsts and an everlasting love. (It is also full of some of the steamiest scenes I've ever read. In fact some were so steamy I was surprised my kindle didn't catch fire.)
This book can be read as a standalone, though I do recommend reading the first book of the series as the main characters make appearances. It is unnecessary to understand what is happening though and I don't think I would've felt as if I was missing critical information had I not read it before. Also heed the trigger warnings listed at the beginning of this book. Finally, go in recognizing that they do not have a monogamous relationship throughout the course of the book and that not every HEA looks the same. If you go in with an open mind, I think you'll come out satisfied and happy with the story and just as in love with the amazing characters and character development as I was.
I so enjoy MM romances. I find them fun, steamy and easy to read. And then a book like this one comes around and you keep reading and you keep getting immersed in this world and in the end you realize that you are as ignorant as you were 100 years ago. Are you wondering what I mean? As a straight female that is in her late *coughing all around* thirties, I always believed that I know a thing or two about the Queer community. And no I don't believe that because I read MM romances. I have friends, I have the internet, you know simple stuff. However, reading some books, and this one is an example of it, I feel like a dinosaur and ignorant as much as the next person. Like Diego said to Jake, our wonderful MC, "But seriously, your definitions could use an upgrade. Relationships, attraction, orientation, gender expression... none of it is a one-size-fits-all. Get online, do some research, get some knowledge already". P.s. Jake is my age! I loved this book. It is a bit slow because we literally follow Micah and Jake from their late teens till their late thirties. We were craving for their HEA and even though I'm usually inclined to read the last chapter, do not judge me you do it too, I DIDN'T! I wanted to experience every single moment of their relationship and torture myself, without knowing the aftermath. Their struggles mostly lie in the misconception that they cannot offer each other what they want and need. Poor Jake, he is not aware that he was doing it already! Their story is unique and as Ry says "there's more than one way to write a love story"! And ain't this the truth people!
I'm happy that they managed to understand themselves and each other in order to be together in their own way! The bottom line is "There wasn't a world in which Jake would send Micah away!"
The writing is intriguing. I was hooked and can’t stop reading. This is not a conventional romance. They had been non monogamous since the beginning of their story. Micah is a virgin when they first met and he reserved all his “firsts” to Jake. It’s kind of like the premise in Romeo Falling, which I absolutely loved. Except that it’s not mutual as Jake is a fuck boy.
Micah believes in romance and soul mates while Jake is not interested in relationships at all. Jake has made it very clear from the beginning, but it doesn’t stop Micah from falling in love with Jake after they first slept together. During their first encounter, when they were 19, Micah was in love with Jake, thinking they were boyfriends, while Jake continued having hookups when they were apart.
It could’ve been the trope I hate most. Virgin vs playboy. Power imbalance with the virgin falls hard first. Luckily I prevailed. The story gets more interesting after their first fallout.
Micah then went and lived his live fully. Has all kinds of experiences and relationships with other guys.
It ended up takes them 20 years on-and-off to finally get their happy ending.
It’s not a safe book as they both had sex with other guys after they met. There’s no jealousy though. They stayed in touch while hooking up with other guys. It doesn’t say in the book whether they are exclusive after Jake finally admits that they are a couple.

Wow! Marie Sinclair, you just blew me away with this book. Once I started reading it I just couldn’t put it down and is one of the best books I’ve read this year. We met Jake in book one, where we also got a glimpse of Micah but their story was so so much more than what we saw of them in ‘A Kind Of Forever’. Their story was powerful, emotional, and full of a special love that swept me up and carried me along to their own unique HEA. I loved both Jake and Micah, they are both such strong and complex characters and we really got to know them in this book, as it took us through their lives from when they meet to their forever. I have to admit I struggled a little at first with their relationship but that is my shortcoming and it opened my eyes and made me think about the unique and diverse world we live in; so thank you M.S. for opening my eyes and I loved the perfect for them, ending you gave them. It was also great to see a little more of Cart and Ry and to meet Alex who I hope we will get to know more about in future books. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book but it was an amazing journey that gave me all the feels and a book that I highly recommend. I was gifted an ARC of this book and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.
I fell in love with the first book in this series and this follow up was just as amazing as the first one. Nothing Like Forever is about Jake and Micah. They have been in an on again off again relationship for 20 years. There is so much love and affection between the two of them and you can really feel that love while reading. There is also a lot of fear on Jakes part. He does not want the “happily ever after” and Micah wants it all. When they are together they are on fire and nothing can come between them. They have fought for a very long time trying to get this thing between them right. They know there is so much love there but its hard to just accept that on Jakes part. It is a truly beautiful thing when he finally can accept what Micah is offering him. This is a hard fought HEA and it was absolutely a beautiful thing to read. I am looking forward to diving right on in to the next book!

POV: 3rd Person Dual POV
Standalone or series: Book 2 in the Finding Forever series
Would I recommend it: 5 stars! ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommend!! 🤩
Nothing Like Forever is an excellent addition to the Finding Forever series and overall I really enjoyed it. I was a bit hesitant to read this book at first because of the nature of the relationship between the MC's but I loved the other two books in the series so much that I had to read it. This is a very intense, emotional and well written story that I found difficult to read at times but I also found it to be very inspiring and even when I wanted to smack Jake for his treatment of Micah I could feel how confused and out of his depth he felt with his feelings toward him. Micah and Jake definitely have a very unconventional relationship that is more off than on but when they are together their connection and chemistry is off the charts. The story spans over twenty years and we get to see both men grow up and deal with some very difficult issues together and apart. Their lack of communication is very frustrating at times but no matter what happens between them they always seem to be drawn back together. Their story is not the usual HEA but it is perfect for them.

A captivating voyage in the tumultuous sea of emotions that is love! I absolutely loved the author's debut novel (definitely one of my top MM reads of all time) and was so looking forward to this one. I definitely recommend reading the prequel novella and for checking out the triggers mentioned cause though not explicitly mentioned, the MCs have this a seriously hot and cold relationship.
Just like in their previous works, the author does a fantastic job of taking us through the journey of the duo's relationship, the interplay of intense emotions, circumstance and people. But at the heart of which lies true love, security and affection. It was hard not to fall in love with both Jake and Micah though I did wanna scream at them at times. The author's writing style and diction highlights the intensity and yearning so beautifully. Wonderful penmanship!
Shall be looking forward to the author's next work. Looking for an unique, intense and captivating read? This one's for ya.
Will they finally solve the puzzle? Jake, just wants the status quo. Micah, wants forever. They have been in each others' lives for over 20 years in a hit and miss operation. They just can't get it right, always just not the right time. They are close and great when together, then they are not. They are like puzzle pieces that fit perfectly, depending on the angle. They are both likeable men as they move through life, trying to find the fit. You can see the slow growth, the realizations, the pauses when they actually try to think. Will they make the right choices? Will they see what is in front of themselves? Will they dig deep and learn who they are? This is more of a real life romance, than the cookie cutter boom, perfect couple. This story makes you and the characters work for their 'happy'. Well done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Jake and Micah. I struggle with what to say about these two because there’s just so much I *could* say. I absolutely loved them both, and watching them come together was an exercise in frustration, patience, and joy. It takes them a while, a whole lot of feelings, and some work, but they are, always and forever, each other’s person. This is a story about love and what life looks like over twenty years. There are no dull moments and there are plenty of anxious ones, but overall, it turns out to be intense in the best possible way.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was the best. This journey, Micah’s and Jake’s, was so touching. Not always though, I felt frustrated, too. The road to this HeA was not always one of sunshine and happiness. The hurt, the sadness and yes, the sweetness, took you to places where you felt close to these heroes and hurt for them. I admired Micah’s ability to process his feelings even when they hurt. He was always able to come home. This relationship dynamic was unusual but so perfect, too. Their road was extremely bumpy but when the dust of heartache, pain and time settled Micah and Jake found their way home and that was beautiful. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
The story of Jake and Micah is very different than the typical romance. It spans a large amount of time and these two are not always together during those years. They have a deep connection but for various reasons can't make it work as a couple for the longest time. I don't want to give spoilers as this needs to be read and savoured to appreciate the fine details of character and plot the author has woven into this story. Not one you will soon forget.
MM, Can't live With Him/Can't live without Him romance. Page-turner with an emotionally intense story that takes place over the course of over 20 years. Can be read as a stand-alone with no loss of enjoyment or understanding. Lots of information given and drama, angst, heat and reconciliations throughout the story. I really enjoyed the story, an eventual HEA.
Loved this book start to finish. Not an easy read however. Lots and lots of back and forth in terms of relationship progress. Definitely not linear. Very interesting to watch both Micah and Jake manage themselves in this non-relationship even if in name only. Scorching hot. I will miss these two. Highly recommended. Great series. Can’t wait for Alex and Diego.
I have to admit that I am convinced that Micah is a saint. There were several times that Jake had me ready to launch my Kindle across the room! This is the first time I have read a book filtered through an aromatic character and it added an interesting element to the story. The story is an emotional slow build but a satisfying read in the end.
This book is a very powerful read about two men who can't seem to stay together nor stay apart. While I loved the book, it was hard to read through some of the issues sometimes. I recommend this book, but be ready to read it all at once and have your heart strings pulled.
They have had a great connection for some time, one wants forever while the other does not. This follows their ups and downs as they try to find what is going to be the best for them. Will they have forever? See if they will
