Boiling Gap is a modern gothic horror story. Frausten Khubler, "Frost', falls in love among the snow covered hills of the university campus. Life is idyllic until a family tragedy changes the course of his life. Unable to cope with the loss, Frost leaves college and begins his career in the town of Boiling Gap, but the isolation he sought brings no peace. Worse yet, nothing he learned at the university has prepared him for the manifestations of evil and death he must now face. Howling beasts, hidden passages, a family curse, madness...all the elements of a classic gothic tale fit seamlessly together in this dark, first person narrative.
I picked this one up because it was on the list of intentions for the BoH (FB group) indie brawl and went in entirely blind which was a good thing since I probably wouldn't have picked it up if I had read the blurb (I'm really tapped out on books that deal with parental loss and the word gothic is a red flag for me since 9 times out of 10 I'm bored silly by gothic lit). Given the number of things it had going against it with me it's surprising how much I actually enjoyed this one.
Just a word of warning, if animal death is a trigger for you approach with caution this one absolutely obliterated me with it.
