Lowenna is a richly imagined fantasy with a classic hero’s journey at its heart. From the very first pages, I was intrigued by the mystery of the protagonist—a young woman who wakes by a shipwreck with no memory, no name… until a voice in her head gives her one: Lowenna.

The world Robert L. Stevens has created is immersive and atmospheric. The city of Penbirth, the whispers of ancient magic, and the shadow of a dark mage all come together to create a story that’s both thrilling and emotionally grounded. I loved watching Lowenna grow into her powers and identity, even as she faced fear, prejudice, and loss.

Her decision to risk everything to save kidnapped children despite being an outcast was genuinely moving and made me root for her even more. The pacing picks up quickly, and once it does, it’s hard to put down.

A few minor moments could’ve used tighter editing, but overall, the writing is engaging and the characters are memorable. If you love fantasy stories with strong female leads, forgotten magic, and high stakes, Lowenna is absolutely worth the read.

Lowenna pulled me in from the very first chapter. Robert L Stevens crafts a vivid, almost cinematic setting that makes you feel like you’re right there alongside the characters. Lowenna herself is a strong yet vulnerable protagonist whose journey is as emotional as it is adventurous.

The pacing is well-balanced moments of quiet reflection are seamlessly woven between tense, suspenseful scenes. I especially loved how the relationships felt authentic, never forced, and how the mysteries unfolded with just the right amount of intrigue to keep me turning the pages.

If you enjoy stories with rich worldbuilding, relatable characters, and a blend of suspense and heart, Lowenna is a must-read. Robert L Stevens proves himself to be a skilled storyteller with a knack for drawing you into his world and keeping you there until the very last page.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From the very first pages, this book pulled me straight into its world. The plot is easy to follow while still being rich with lore, history, and layered worldbuilding. We’re thrown into an unfamiliar place and experience it entirely through Lowenna’s perspective, which works beautifully. Her confusion and disorientation at the start mirror the reader’s, making the immersion feel natural rather than overwhelming. Normally, I don’t vibe read, but the first half of this book was so captivating, magical, and ethereal that I couldn’t help myself. I was completely lost in it, while still pausing to pick at details and Google bits of lore like I usually do.

The world feels alive and deeply immersive. Moving through different towns, races, creatures, and memories genuinely feels like exploring a lived-in place. Each scene reminded me of a D&D campaign, full of encounters, battles, quieter moments, and sudden chaos, where it almost feels like you’re rolling the dice alongside the characters to see what happens next. The balance between wonder, danger, humour, and pain makes the reading experience incredibly engaging.

The magic system is a standout. It’s well thought out and grounded in themes of balance, nature, water, and the tension between good and evil. I genuinely found myself trying to guess which real-world crystals might have inspired it. The darker magic is especially compelling. It feels dangerous and tempting in a way that adds real depth to the world.

The characters are impossible not to love, which makes every emotional beat hit harder. Their relationships feel genuine, and when they hurt, you feel it too. There were a couple of moments that genuinely broke my heart, and as someone who loves getting emotionally wrecked by books, that was a win-win for me. Rykku completely stole my heart. Having gone through so much, she still remains hopeful, driven, and full of feminine rage. She is such a powerful and beautifully written character.

Lowenna herself is exceptional. From the moment she’s injured, bleeding, and still pushing forward, dragging a chunk of wood from her leg and refusing to stop, I was rooting for her. She can hold her own in any fantasy world she’s dropped into. Is she maybe a little overpowered? Sure. Did I care? Not even slightly. The girl has lost her memories, and she needs something to help her survive. She also gave me major badass “Lady of the Wood” vibes from Lord of the Rings, which made me extremely happy.

Special mention to Grilk. He was everything, and you truly cannot help but love him.

In terms of pacing, the book is relatively fast-paced with some slower sections in the middle. Those quieter moments are necessary, though, as they allow the character development, friendships, and emotional stakes to fully breathe. The second half of the book shifts into a much darker tone, and I loved that transition. Once the initial wonder fades and the reality of the world sets in, the story becomes more intense and gripping. From that point on, I was on the edge of my seat and couldn’t stop turning the pages.

The battle scenes are vivid and cinematic. I could clearly picture still frames from them, and I can already imagine how incredible artwork inspired by these moments would look. That is always a sign that action scenes are done well.

I loved that the story remains open rather than fully concluded, allowing the world and characters to continue growing beyond the final page. The setting is incredibly immersive and full of potential, and I would absolutely enjoy exploring more of what this world has to offer.

Lowenna is an engaging fantasy adventure that hooked me right from the mysterious shipwreck opening. The protagonist’s struggle to understand her identity while facing prejudice makes her easy to root for, and I loved watching her courage shine through despite the hostility she encounters. The mix of magic, action, and heart kept the story moving at a great pace. The rescue mission for the children added urgency and emotion, and the friendships Lowenna forms along the way were a highlight. It’s a story full of danger, mystery, and resilience that leaves you eager to see where her journey goes next.

I am currently reading this incredible story, So far its been a wonderful story, with great pacing, amazing female lead, and so easy to read, the fights are described incredibly well, and the environment is so detailed, to the point I could almost feel the sun and breeze on my skin, without slowing the story down, I am looking forward to where this story goes, and what comes next for our forgetful heroine.
