Eleven-year-old Ben Hoover and his younger brother, Nick, go on a camping trip with the other boys from their village in Chesterville. The campsite is situated along Allegheny Mountains and the program will last for three days. On the first night at the camping site, one of the campers finds out that he has lost a personal item. They immediately report it to their leader, David Marshal, who says that the campers must have dropped their stuff on their way to the campsite. When the program begins next morning, a game requires the campers to search through the forest and back to the campsite, another camper reports that he is losing a personal item. Ben and Nick become more intrigued and decide to themselves that they will help find the lost items of co-campers.
