A children's book about working hard to make your own magic happen. Celara is a little girl with a very big imagination. She loves stories in all forms, and they often inspire her to express herself in creative ways. When Celara decides she wants to make up her own story, she suddenly finds that her imagination has gone blank. After a lot of work, and a little encouragement from her favorite characters, she discovers that faith in herself is all she needs to make the magic happen.
This book is 9.5 inches by 9.x5 inches. It is geared towards children of 8 years and older.
Kickstarted book by Hallion. This was so adorable and absolutely worth it. I loved getting to see her personal-character younger, trying to find her way with inspiration and challenges all along the way. I loved all the fandoms in little easter eggs everywhere. I will buy everything I can of hers.
Such a treat to support artists in what they love. Huge fan of Karen Hallion to being with. A cute little book for any little one with lots of Easter eggs for parents.
First, I am unabashedly a fan of Karen Hallion's artwork. She has a strong theme and fount of inspiration in strong women (real and fictional), and I so appreciate it. When she announced that she was kickstarting a book about her character, I was on board quickly.
Although the majority of this book was created during the pandemic, with the requisite ups and downs of inspiration and mental health, Hallion has released a top-notch story with delightful illustrations. Her character is creative, determined, self-reflective, and the book is an accurate representation of most writers' and artists' experience with their creations. It is not a linear situation, from start to finish, but full of stops and starts, revisions and self-doubt. I really love this story and look forward to sharing it with my people for a long time to come.
I supported this book on KickStarter and got to follow along the entire process so I was extra excited when I got the chance to read it. The drawings are stunning and the story is heartwarming and motivational without feeling preachy or over the top. I loved this book so much and I know it's something I'll pick up again in the future. Don't worry about this being a "children's book" because I think it's enjoyable for people of all ages.
I should probably state my bias up front - I am a huge fan of Karen Hallion and her work, and was delighted when she released this children's book. This book focuses on Ms. Hallion's original character Celara, her love of stories and adventure, and her struggle to draw a character from her imagination.
I adored reading this. The story is inspirational, and the art is fantastic. This is a great addition to any child's library!
Love how it deals with someone whose brain has imagined something much better than she can produce at first....There's all the practice (good use of the window in the background to show time passing) to get to where your actuality matches your vision.
Persistence and practice will help you get there.
Like all the nods to things like Kiki's Delivery Service, Disney's Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, and more.
This is a delightful story that offers both young and old the reminder that creation is a process and we have to be open to going through that process patiently if we are to create something of worth. I adore Karen Hallion's artwork and have a couple of her Doctor Who/Disney Princess pieces hanging on my walls. So, I have to admit that the best part of the book for me was indeed the illustrations. Although, the author's note at the end comes in a close second!
I love this artist and this book is fantastic and sweet (and chock full of wonderful references). It quickly jumped into the rotation of books I read regularly with my 3yo before bed, and it resonates as all of the big siblings are in the "following their dreams" ages.
I purchased this book to give to my daughter for her birthday next month, but I was unable to keep it a secret; I just had to share it with her early! It’s such a lovely book, full of beautiful illustrations, and the perfect message for anyone who thinks their best isn’t good enough.
I’m a HUGE fan of Karen Hallion’s artwork, and her first book doesn’t disappoint on that front. The writing is simple, but the message is important- never, never quit!
Love the hidden gems throughout the book. Yes, the theme has been done before. But it's Karen H.! <3. A must have for all fans. And people new to this artist will become fans too
I've been a fan of Karen as an artist years and was so happy to be able to Kickstart this book. I got multiple copies for my nieces and nephews and look forward to enjoying it with them!
Hands down my absolute favorite kids book. I’m so glad I heard about this Kickstarter. I absolutely adored how Labyrinth and the Chronicles of Narnia were added making this book almost better for me than my kids although they absolutely loved it too. The story was so good but the artwork blew me away. I actually hopped onto her Etsy page and bought some of the artwork as postcards to hang on our walls.
