There is something wrong with my left ear and if someone talks on my left side, I cannot hear. However, I suddenly have a crush on Xu Yi while he is attracted by the flirting girl Bala who wears green eye shadows. Brokenheartedly, I come across Bala by chance and we become friends. At the same time, I know about Bala's beloved boyfriend—Zhang Yang. After that, Bala dies in an accident. I become Xu Yi's girlfriend, but we break up eventually. Zhang Yang, because of the death of Bala, still cannot start his new life. 左耳听力不好，如果站在左边说话就听不见的“我”某天突然就暗恋上了男生许弋，而同时许弋却被绿色眼影的长裙放浪女孩吧啦追求到手。心碎的“我”在偶然的机会和吧啦成为朋友，也认识了吧啦真正心爱的男生——张漾。随后吧啦在一次意外中去世了，小耳朵与许弋相恋，但最终分手，而张漾却困于吧啦的死亡而无法开始新生活。

Sometimes the bad guy is not always bad.
This is a story of bad people and good people. Or so that is how it is promoted. But is it truly? For me personally there is no "bad" guy or "good" person. Everyone has a story. Something that made them who they are. Things in the past that eventually led them to this road. This is a story that gives us a peak into that.
The book can be called a novella rather than a full novel. With only 13 chapters it is a very quick read. Unfortunately that can also bring about some cons. Due to this, there wasn't any space for the characters to truly develop. Like i mentioned, we are given a peak. That is all.
We see the start of the story with Bala and Li Er and then we end it with Li Er. The story as per the title says is about Li Er (which roughly means Left Ear I think?) . The story although is involved around Bala and the memories she has left behind and the impact she has on everyone ultimate become the journey that Li Er, Zhang Yang, Xu Yi and even Jiang Jao took. From the time that was there prime to them growing up and finally acknowledging where they are truly. Li Er is truly a strong character. Even though we are not given much to look into we can see her strength through the few moments we are given to. From her puppy love to the ultimate love we are given snippet. She truly was the bond and balm for everyone. She was a balm to all. Although she couldn't save everyone she managed to save Zhang Yang at least. After all those were the wishes of Bala. Unknowingly Li Er had managed to fulfill it. Many who read were saying Zhang Yang's and Li Er's love was out of nowhere. Was it really? After he gets chosen to university till the end you can see small parts where he notices this sweet girl and slowly falls in love. As the story is short there might be a lot of speculation but the facts are clearly revealed. Xu Yi's story was just too sad. Maybe in the end he would pull himself together. In a complete 180 we see Zhang Yang becoming stable while Xu Yi spiraling out of control. Maybe Zhang Yang did get his revenge at the end. But at a cost of his own heart and life.
As someone who had watched both the film version of Left Ear and Secret Fruit, I know that Zhang Yang and Li Er end up together happily and even with few obstacles they are still pretty much in love. At first I was not a fan of Zhang Yang's treatment of women but after watching Secret Fruit I made up my mind that he did change. In the movie we do see his softer side towards Li Er much more than the novel, so for anyone disappointed in the love line I would recommend the movie. The love is not fleshed out but you can see the softness Zhang Yang has for Li Er clearly through his eyes. It is without doubt a well acted movie, even reminding me a bit of "Cry Me a River" although it does not handle the same problems in the society.
Lastly but not least, a special thanks to the translator for doing an amazing job so that non-Chinese readers like me gets a chance to read this beautiful yet tragic story. Till next time.

Realmente, The Left Ear me fue difícil de calificar. En términos simples, le doy cinco estrellas a lo grande a los ocho primeros capítulos, al resto le doy una sola (más adelante comentaré por qué).
The Left Ear es una novela china sumamente corta traducida por Mayy. Ciertamente, este es su trabajo más corto de traducción pero no fue mi primera opción a leer porque fue su primera obra traducida y bueno, admito que tenía algunos prejuicios. Sin embargo, le di una oportunidad y encontré un hermoso trabajo de traducción, muy fluido y exquisito (Mayy, eres una gran traductora, Love U).
Ahora bien, la historia es un caso aparte. TLE es una historia narrada por tres personas, los protagonistas, Li Er, Li Bala y Zhang Yang. En síntesis, la historia narra el amor no correspondido que siente LE por Xu Yi y la relación entre LB y ZY, lo que el amor le lleva a esta última a hacer por ZY para ganar su aprecio, una simple acción que marcará la vida de estos cuatro personajes de manera permanente y, luego de ese hecho, como "continúan" sus vidas los personajes remanentes.
Al inicio comenté que a los primeros ocho capítulos les daba cinco estrellas y he acá mis razones. Este arco se centra en las primeras interacciones de esos cuatro personajes y las acciones de LB que marcan sus vidas. Aunque los primeros dos capítulos son muy apresurados y no entendemos muy bien lo que está sucediendo, e incluso comenzamos a desarrollar algunos prejuicios contra ciertos personajes, luego del tercer capítulo todo cambia al leer los mismos hechos pero desde otros puntos de vistas. Estos primeros ocho capítulos nos plantean una historia viciosa, conflictiva y profunda, llena de problemas sociales y de personas dispuestas a hacer sacrificios por sus seres amados. Jóvenes llenos de dudas y otros llenos de rencores, rodeados del bajo mundo entre la adversidad de las escuelas técnicas y escuelas de calidad, buscando sobrevivir aunque no sea por los medios adecuados. Este arco es oscuro, bien construido, con emociones turbulentas que definitivamente enganchan al lector. PERO, luego de cierto suceso y el reencuentro de LE con ZY después de ese suceso, bueno, la historia pierde el rumbo.
El segundo arco de la historia no fue para nada de mi agrado. Sentí que la autora degradó a LE cuando era tan buen personaje. Sé que las razones fueron para que madura y creciera como personaje pero odié mucho que se degradara a tal nivel por XY. No sé, creo que la autora quiso que LE hiciera algo similar a lo que hizo LB por amor pero no resultó. Fue molesto, tedioso y aburrido. Tampoco me gustó que se destruyera de esa manera a XY, sentí que él también merecía una redención y estuve a punto de creer que la tuvo pero no. El maldito fue un bastardo en todo el sentido de la palabra. No obstante, todo en este arco no es malo porque ZY sí obtiene una expiación de sus pecados y se encamina por donde debe ser. Eso fue lo único bueno ya que, pese al "final feliz", la autora dio un final muy apresurado y pobre.
Debo tomar un espacio de esta reseña para LB ya que, en esencia, ella es la protagonista de esta historia, por ella y su amor hacia ZY sucede lo que sucede. El personaje de Li Bala es el mejor personaje de la historia. Fue el personaje mejor construido y más rico. Li Bala es una mala persona (ella misma lo dice), sin moral que luego de enamorarse hace cosas indebidas. Pero, luego de eso, , LB cambió de perspectiva (en mi opinión). Y es que con todo lo que hizo, yo no logré odiar a este personaje. LB me gustó mucho y me dio tristeza que su final llegara tan pronto y de esa forma. De cierta manera, entendí por qué lo hizo y no la juzgo por ello, igual pagó sus cuentas de forma miserable. Me agradó la amistad que construyó con LE y que, al final de su pericia, encontrara en esa amistad el sentimiento de bienestar y satisfacción que no halló con ZY.
TLE es una historia con un plot muy bueno, que comenzó en su cúspide pero que no se mantuvo en ese lugar lamentablemente. ¿La recomiendo? Sí. Siento que todos deberían darle una oportunidad porque no es una mala lectura (al menos al inicio) y es intoxicante lo que nos plantea la autora y como al comienzo actúan los personajes. Además, Mayy es una gran traductora ;)

Very easy to read and keeps the reader entertained to wonder how will the end be.
I like drama books and more so when they are relatable to real life.
Didn't give it full stars because the last chapter was not the sort of ending I expected, but I still enjoyed reading the whole book.

this one is very touching tbh, not because of tragedy but because it is not flawless romance. No one was the white lotus, and fate is strange as it can be.

Berawal dari kisah remaja para tokoh utama yang masih SMA dan kemudian memasuki kehidupan dewasa. Terlihat perubahan karakter para tokoh dari awal hingga akhir. Yang jahat menjadi baik dan yang baik terperosok ke lembah kehancuran. Dan juga ada cara pembalasan dendam yang manis, yang tidak menuntut si pemilik dendam untuk menjadi jahat dan keji.
